Behind the odd premise of mushrooms and their merry life, developer Red Fly Studios behind Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars have some unique ideas going for the new title about to grace the Wii and DS. In an interview with Total Gamer Zone, Red Fly buzzed over what the trippy spore wars are all about.As it seems, the studio's mantra was making a game from a unique perspective. It didn't take long before ideas melded together, and what was supposed to be a world of jolly mushrooms became dark and gritty.
Being early in development, Red Fly can only tell us as much as the Wii version being "a third person action platformer hybrid in the sense that there's tons of action but also a lot of exploration in the game." The bite-size version on the Nintendo's handheld is a side-scroller in a 3D world, like we've seen in previous trailers.
For Red Fly, developing for the Wii is not aiming for the console's large user-base or creating a game with lower costs, but it's about how easy to make things work. From the interview:
...the Wii is a dream to develop with, it's
incredibly easy and intuitive and you can literally set up simple
control schemes in a matter of minutes, but for us the real draw was
the Wiimote. We had the idea for the game, we just
needed a system. At that point we needed to decide whether we wanted to
make the game really interactive or another high def next gen title. At
that point, we figured – the Wiimote is a lot of fun, it’s easy to
develop for and people love it.
