To communicate via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, you need your playmate's friend code. The friend code can be obtained at the Pokemon Wi-Fi Club in the basement of the Pokemon Center. Register your friend's friend code into your own version of the game. Your friend's code will be be automatically registered if you have previously engaged in direct DS-to-DS battles or trades on the 2nd floor of the Pokemon Center.
Step One:
You register your friend's 12-digit friend code into your friends list.
Step Two:
Get on Wi-Fi. If a friend has been detected, you will be connected together, and you should now be able to battle or exchange Pokemon freely.
A convenient voice chat feature will also be available to let you and your friend speak through your DS telephone-style.
According to DSmeet, the site where we got this info, fighting random people via Wi-Fi is unlikely. However CoroCoro said there is a Global Trade Station where you can meet up with people online around the globe and trade with people. That remains to be seen. Even if that turns out to be a rumor, DSmeet promised to make it easier for North American players with the Japanese version of the games to meet.
