Mario Hoops 3-on-3 is the newest Mario Sports game and is being jointly created by Nintendo and Square Enix. Players use the touch screen to get their game on as they execute tricky dribbles, special passes and sweet shots – all with strokes and taps of the stylus.

Players choose their teams of three characters from the Mario universe and hit the court. Power-ups like Red Shells and Bob-ombs can turn the tide as they chase down coins – they will affect the score, so players collect as many as they can as they drive to the hoop. While the game will not be hitting stores until September 11th, here are some more screenshots to feast your eyes on so go ahead and check them out by clicking on the thumbnails below.

Yay, another Mario spinoff. When will we get a sequal to Mario 64 again? Never if they keep this garbage up... coming soon: Mario Baking, Mario Checkers, and Mario Poker!

# Mario Sports = Boo; Square Enix = HELL YEAH!Guest 2006-05-31 07:50
ok, I agree with #1, I hate how they have been abusing the Mario name and just sticking him in so many sports titles has made me feel like they are cheapening the Mario name. Also, basketball as one of my least favorite types of video game.

and I guess this puts me under the category of fanboy, but if Square Enix has some good input into the game, I will almost certainly buy it (then again, this doesn't seem like their type of game). I'm probably going to wait to hear the reviews first, but I am very hopefull
