More info on IDG's "E3 Replacement" |
We've got good news for you. The International Data Group's new gaming event has been confirmed for October 19-12, 2007 at the LA Convention Center. Feel good about this because the event will be open to the public. Here's the twist: The name of the event is also open to the public.
IDG is holding a contest to name the event. The contest will be open until November 20, 2006. The winner will receive two round-trip airline tickets to the show and special behind-the-scenes access to new products and events. You can visit IDG's site for more details regarding this contest.
What's interesting is that IDG's event is being sponsored by the ESA. Also IDG was tapped by the ESA to handle the new B2B focused E3.
Okay, so it makes sense now. They're putting up something else for the public, just so that the public will be happy, and they're making the E3 invitation only, a move that will attempt to make everyone happy. Below are the things that IDG executive vice president Mary Dolaher had to say about The new E3 and the IDG public event.
On the new E3:
The decision was to refocus E3 into a hotel-type event where it's B2B, and the members are going to be the ones to distribute the invitations to people, and there's not going to be any general registration... So with them doing that, that's a perfect solution for them and a number of companies at E3.
On the yet to be named IDG public event:
I think this is a unique time. We've got a lot going on... outdoor promotions and gaming league tournaments and using the Staples Center, so I think it's going to be great... L.A. has the unique blend with all the entertainment properties there, so the area brings a certain panache to an event. There's 20 million people in the greater L.A. area, and so if you're trying to hit for a consumer event it's an easy way to do it. It's just a great venue. And L.A. has been great with us in helping us to get the dates and they've had to move other shows to accommodate us and they've been willing to do it.
Proper events for the people concerned.

"October 19-12, 2007" ... Wow! Backwards. THAT'S the way to have a party!
Maybe we'll even be able to book tickets after it's over, so we can know whether it was worth the money or not BEFORE we buy the tickets.
D3 in Copenhagen next Saturday.. Nuff said.
