Nowadays, there's nothing really new about homebrew games which sport Wi-Fi capabilities for multiplayer ad-hoc challenges. However, developers rene bauer, beat suter, and mirjam weder have tried something new - instead of building a game around the Nintendo DS' wireless capabilities, they actually made a game based on the Wi-Fi hotspot environment around you.

Titled metro wardrive 1.01, the game adapts each level by capturing the amount of hotspot activity around you and turns them into actual game objects for you to play with. The object of the game is to try to fend of the wlan-generated enemies from overwhelming your wardrive crystal.

Through the use of your touch pen, you can blow up oncoming enemies that try to break through your crystal's barrier. The game is pretty unique each time you play it since the amount and frequency of enemies depend on the how much data your DS collects around you.

Try strolling around while playing the game and you'll see what I mean. If you want to give yourself a real challenge, however, try going to the nearest mall or even the corner street Starbucks in your location and watch the crystals fly all over the place.

If you're interested in taking this game out for a spin around the town, we've hosted a copy of the archive in QJ.NET's download site, available through the link below. We've also provided the source code of the game for any hardcore developers who want to take a look how the game was built.
