Memorable Videogame myths: from reviving Aeris to saving Wander |
Ó

In the dark, early days of the Internet, when BBS boards and gaming magazines made of combustible paper still ruled supreme, videogame myths enjoyed a healthier existence. What videogame myths you ask?
Ever heard from a friend of a friend that he had a friend who was able to play Leisure Suit Larry 4? Remember the rumors of the existence of the notorious Cow Level in Diablo I, before the release of Diablo II? Yeah folks, videogame myths - rumors that have passed from mouth to mouth and are now part of gaming lore.
Below are infamous videogame myths that immediately come to mind. The first three are old ones - and legendary ones at that. The last game is a bit more contemporary and stands as an example of how quickly videogame myths get busted nowadays.

Finding Schala
Schala is the older sister of the character Magus (Janus) in Squaresoft's 16-bit RPG classic, Chrono Trigger. During the course of the game, Schala chooses to sacrifice her life to save the heroes of the game from a grim fate. By the end of the game, (well, in most of the many endings of the game) the optional character Magus leaves the party to try and find Schala.
Apparently such is the attachment of fans to this 16 bit lady, that rumors emerged that you can embark on a side quest to go find Schala. A lot of true believers are quick to cite one of the side quest hints given to you by a character in the game, the Guru of Time. It says: "One of you is close to someone who needs help... Find this person... fast." Many assume that this refers to Schala.
Rumors spread that this final quest was removed in the final print of the game, or that hacked versions of the game existed where you'll be able to find schala. The fact that Chrono Trigger had multiple endings only added fuel to the rumor inferno.
The fans were thankful though, that Schala's disappearance was eventually addressed in the Japanese only Radical Dreamers, and then ultimately in the PS sequel Chrono Cross.
Conspiracy theorists are still attached to this issue though, mostly because some fans point out that Schala's hair is blonde in Chrono Cross and not the known blue in her Chrono Trigger incarnation. They speculate that perhaps something is not fully explained or whatnot.

Reviving Aeris Gainsborough
Yep, another Square game, another dead/lost character. Sigh... Attachment apparently fuels delusions/hope/denial.
The rumor maintained that in some versions of Final Fantasy VII, Aeris could be resurrected. Some maintained that she was actually meant to be resurrected but the option was not implemented or was dropped during later stages of game development. This belief flew blindly against claims from the game's production staff that this was not the case, and that Aeris' death was always intended and was meant to capitalize on the cliche of heroic sacrifice.
To this date there is no found in-game method of resurrecting Aeris, nor is there a discovered alternate ending to the game. Yes, multiple cheats do exist to resurrect the last of the ancients, but most lead to errors and glitches.
Such is the infamy of this supposed resurrection, that a rumored scene is referenced near the end of the Final Fantasy movie expansion, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children.
It is said that, if a player backtracks to the church in the Midgar slums, a "spirit" of Aeris can be seen in the church tending flowers. However, if you approach the sprite, it will vanish. Wikipedia informs us that this can be seen at anytime from the addition of Aerith to the party onwards.
The rumor is that this is an Easter egg by the developers. Some contend though that this is just likely a glitch. Still, the scene can be observed towards the ending of Final Fantasy VII, when Cloud was in the Lifestream-saturated waters underneath Aeris' church. He glances up to catch a split second ghostly appearance of Aerith and Zack.
Sorry fans, whether they meant it or not, the lady is dead. And given the events that happened in Advent Children, she will likely stay dead, even if Square Enix decides to cash-in on a remake of Final Fantasy VII.

Fighting Sheng Long
Sheng Long came to exist mostly due to the bad English localization of the arcade version of Street Fighter II. Whenever Ryu won he said the following lines: "You must defeat Sheng Long to stand a chance." Players of course thought that Sheng Long was the supposed master of the "Dudley Boys of Street Fighter" - Ryu and Ken.
Some console versions eventually changed that translation to "You must defeat my Dragon Punch to stand a chance" but still referred to Sheng Long as the master of Ryu and Ken.
The thing is Sheng Long never existed. At all. "Sheng Long" was a bad translation of Ryu's "Shoryuken."
The reason why Sheng Long persisted in the minds of hopeful gamers though is due to an April Fools joke that Electronic Gaming Magazine ran in 1992. A fake reporter, named W.A. Stokins (waste token), reported that if Ryu did not suffer any damage during the game - once he reaches M. Bison's stage and causes the game to end in a perfect draw (no damage to each combatant) - and the process was repeated for ten consecutive fights with Bison (hence the token wastage), Shen Long will come out and beat the bejesus out of Bison and challenge you to a "fight to the death."
Capcom, those wise-ass corporate folks, increased Street Fighter II token consumption and popularity by neither confirming or denying the existence of Sheng Long. It is believed that the Sheng Long joke inspired Akuma, an assertion that has neither been denied nor confirmed by Capcom. Those shady creeps. Smart of them.
Sheng Long got a revival when Street Fighter III came out. They were slightly more revealing about it being a gag though.

An alternate ending to Shadow of the Colossus
After you defeat the 16th Colossus - the sorcerer Grandis Supernus Malus, interesting events occur, without being a bit too spoiler-ish, let's just say that Wander got a taste of how it is to be a colossus. Anyway, the ending sequences offered enough limited freedom to cause folks to start thinking that perhaps things could be done to somehow unlock an alternate ending.
Several investigative folks - Ryu Sinclair and David Rodoy - over at GameFaqs have countered this speculation though in their Shadow of the Colossus Plot Theory Analysis, by stating that no, there is no alternate ending. You can't do what you think you could do, and that whatever round-about solutions you can come up with, won't work.
Despite the FAQs assertions, I know a lot of folks who are still trying, and consequently, are still failing miserably.
Of course, given the odd construction of Shadow of the Colossus's story, there's a lot more stuff for folks to speculate, and theorize about other than the existence of an alternate ending.
Having given all of these examples, these videogame myths prove, if anything that videogames are powerful enough to move minds and wrench people's guts. So much so that they go into enough denial, that they hope or wish that certain things were possible.
Some games just cause people end up screaming: "That's that? There's got to be more. I should be able to do more! I could change this right. This has to be possible." You know what? Perhaps that ability to move people in such a manner should be one means by which we judge if a game is good enough. But nah, that's just probably me being a bit too optimistic.
Anyhow, what about you folks? Do you have any videogame hoaxes/myths/rumors you know that you'd like to share? Zelda myths? Nude codes? Unlockable Sega mascots? Use the comments and let us know.

lol remember all the good ol' Pokemon ones.
Those suckers drove me mad... until Gameshark etc came out :-P
what a crappy "article"
Yeah... same in FF6... how to revive General Leo. Fight thousands of battle in a tiny lil spot on the worldmap and you'll get a fancy magic potion that gives back Leo.
i wonder if every heroic death in rpgs are sorrounded by rumors.
Hey... maybe in .hack//INFECTION there's a totaly alternate storyline if you manage to stop Orca from falling into a coma XD
I usually don't care much for Ian's articles but this one was kinda cool and brought back memorys of the games I used to play. I still remember the Street Fighter although I was never familiar with that rumor. We had it at our pizza king.
I still remember trying out so many Pokemon myths.
man, Chrono Cross has NOTHING to do with Trigger except the title. . . in a way that final fantasy uses the same names,... similar thing
How about the original Super Mario Bros. where you could supposedly jump over the flag?
Ok, the FF3 (U.S. 6) THAT was a rumor that I hoped for to be TRUE. I admit that I DID try to look for a rumoured potion to bring him "back from the dead" but, when I found out that it was a hoaX I cursed the person that made it up AND their mother!
Wander???? Its Wanda!!!
How can you even attempt to write an article such as this, dealing with a topic thats been done to death by numerous sites (and researched correctly I might add).
It shows a clear lack of imagination and talent that the best you could do was a poor cut and paste from wiki and any gamer worth there salt would have spotted the Wander typo!
Not only is it a slow news day but your writers need a lesson in integrity!
Hackish and slung together at best, I guess thats all you need when your readerbase is 99% under the age of 15 though..
Anyone got the aeiths ghost showing up glitch on tape?
I remember when Nintendo Power made a funny and in an April issue, released a few screenshots in which Link could purchase the Entire Triforce (and as the article stated only after unlocking certain things within the game) in Kokori Village back in the Ocarina of Time. I must've looked HIGH AND LOW for YEARS for that thing before realizing it was a joke.
Second one I can recall is supposedly being able to unlock Luigi as a playable character in Mario 64. You had to of course do really hard to impossible things within the game to unlock this as well.
I look back now and regret ever listening to those two rumors. Who knows, maybe all the electricity I used to play those games longer and for hours on end, could have powered that small angry village Glod in Romania for a week.
It is possible to jump over the flag, though you will need a famicom to do it, besides, you'll only end up with a never ending corridor (well, until you run out of time that is)
keep posting articles like these. I enjoy them. Just please make them a bit longer because I just can't get enough after reading the first few paragraphs.
The Aeris ghost thingy is very real. When on disc 2 or 3, go to midgar and talk to the guy standing outside the doors, head to bone village and dig up the key and head back to the church.
It's nothing really, but a fun detail.
I could try to get it on tape/some kind of media, but i don't have the time..
you are the stupid one.....
and kid is schala >.>
Remember the truck in Pokemon Red and Blue?
Can't belive it didn't mention the 'Triforce Rumor' O_o
I remember the Triforce rumor for Ocarina of Time...only rumor that had me going to find the sacred Triforce. Stupid 'time' rocks...I can't belive I actually try hitting all of them in order while wearing the 'eye of truth' (or whatever it was call) -_-
and you read it woho
you are a winner!
Ahh..the Aeris Myth...I spent many an hour trying to get her lifeless body full of hp once more....
Here's another myth I heard as a Child:
Playing as Link/Samus in Super Mario RPG!
Some loser back in the day told me you could play as these characters if you Completed some impossible feats...
1)U SAVE Schala form Lavos to beat the game RIGHT
2)Lucca found Kid
3)Marle, Lucca, Chrono are in Chrono Cross as NPC
Duke Nukem Forever - the longest running myth in gaming history.
Seconded
Mk for genesis ,Nimbus Terrafaux!
In the uk in 1992 there was a magazine that came out called mean machines and they said there was a cheat for mortal kombat on the snes to get the blood and death moves. me and my cousin tryed it for hours and hours, and the code just didnt seen to work. It involved you sticking a penny on the cartridge to weigh it down whie you pressed a combination of buttons on the joypad, well after a long night with no success we gave up then i looked at the front of the mag and it was dated 1st April, oh i was such a fool, ive still got the mag to this day and it always brings a smile to my face and a slight sneer.
Im sure that its wander in the japanese version, i have the sound track and its says wander.
Ermac
its even in the FFVII strategy guide.. you just go there at the end of the game way after aeris is dead somwhere in disc 3. She will appear birefly picking up flowers as some form of ghost than dissapeares forever... cant be repeated and its not a glitch.
What about the additional fatalities rumored in MK2?
I was told that in the level of the forest you could give an uppercut to a dying character and make him/her fall in the mouth of one of the trees in that place, and in the acid pool that you could hang your enemy on one of those chains. I did try it a couple of times but I didn't push it for a long time, it is a good thing that all those rumors were actually added in MK:Shaolin Monks.
the big myth when i was in elementary school (when only super mario 3 was out) , was people would go around saying they had played a beta copy of super mario brothers 8 or 10 or whatever... and the goal of the game was to deliver the princess a pizza
oh yeah, anyone remember the "Mew under the truck next to SS Anne"-myth?
Yeah, I can't help but wonder why the Triforce from Ocarina of Time didn't make this list... Probably because, there were at least 30 different rumors of ways to do it... making it impossible to pin down any particular one.
Oh, and, there's the 17th Colossus from Shadow of the Colossus... I remember when that first showed up, and how I wished it to be true... but, alas, twas not to be.
Remember the ever so fabled Yellow Banshee's? Or the gnomes that did the cleanup on the levels, ahh, that was a good time.
I remember some of those! If... I remember correctly some of them worked lol.
i can't remember exact details but i used to perform these glitches as a kid when playing mk2, it was one of my past times.
you used cage and shang tsung , i cant remember exact details but you needed to get their fireballs frozen o the screen and then it would allow you to perform these glitches. danm i wish i could remember how it was. it was fun.
you know, getting mew in pokemon is possible.
It is a glitch though and can be found in the ghost town.
Score
Anybody remember the rumour about getting Samus in Super Mario RPG? She was supposedly sleeping in the inn and you had to wake her up. Anybody remember with me? Hahahaha.
The twins and the super soft!
omg you just spoiled FF7 for me
Link and Samus were actually in the game sleeping in certain beds. You were never able to play as them though.
Getting MegaMan in Super Smash Bros 64, finding Mew in a truck next to the SS. Anne in Pokemon Red/Blue, wearing the giants mask and fierce deity mask at the same time in Zelda: Majoras Mask, playing as Zack in FF7, hell even the one about Sonic and Tails in SSB Melee!
so true
I've never heard any of the rumors mentioned in TFA. Why did you fail to mention the real rumors, like: Triforce in OOT, Mew under the truck, Luigi in Mario 64, etc. ?
speaking of SMB's. remember when you had to use the trampoline thingy to jump accross the gap and you almost failed everytime, trying to move the controller thinking that would help? can you say the innovation of sixaxis?
Usually the American counterpart of a japanese game has translated names.
Japanese+ Wander American+ Wanda
You gotta remember Japanese pronunciation
If you went to one of those pokemon events, you could just download mew. Yes, I "used" to be a pokemon master myself.
LOL SAME
The biggest and best one I remember recently is the supposed "Bigfoot" in Grand Theft Auto : San Andreas. That one kept folks busy for awhile.
Man I spent so long messing around with those pokemon rumors... I read that I had to get past the S.S. Anne without it leaving and then go to the casino and Giovanni (the gym leader) had left his keys there and I had to get them and go to the truck and use the keys to drive the truck out of the way and there would be some stairs and I would eventually fine a mew... I also heard if you had a pokemon that knew strength, you could use it on the truck and it would move... Man I never got the try out the keys thing though... lol I wonder why nintendo put a truck there, I mean it must've been there for a reason...
you finally made a "side" article worth my reading time. thx a lot, and it's actually VERY incomplete. I hope you add more and more. cheers.
Thankyou for bringing those up, it kinda burned me that the numerous MK rumors were ignored in this article, and good point about the Shoalin monks reference...I really felt that game was done half as a game, and half as a tribute to fans of the series.
Corrections:
"...and you read it."
"Woho. :D"
"You are a Weiner!"
well we all remember that nei dies, well there was rumors that she could be revived after neifirst's battle, but even if you had a moon dew when the others were facing neifirst you could resurrect nei but she would still die afterwards, now believe it or not in the playstation 2 remake sega ages phantasy star 2 you could revive nei and have her til the end of the game but i dont remember if they gave her a ending plate or words from the point on past neifirst
You know what's funny? When you can play as a major character who dies.
Phantasy Star 2. When Nei dies in the fight with Neifirst, you can bring her back to life for that battle with a Moondew. But after the battle, she's gone for good.
I remember an article in IGM i think, april fools day of course, saying you could play as the old bond actors, Sean Connery etc... I pursued that for way too much time...
oh the loving Aeris revival rumor. And no, the Aeris ghost in the church is NOT a glitch. The first time you enter the church in disc 3, you see a quick ghost of Aeris then she disappears, and Cloud sees it too. everytime you exit and re-enter you'll see the ghost for a shorter time than the first time. Oh god the revival...fricken hilarious. I made up so much crap about reviving her. I think the rumours eventually stopped during the advent children time
Not to mention the many gay "Get Zack!" rumors
thank god advent children
With a gameshark. XD
he's really good but you can't equip him with weapons/armor/relics/espers. kefka is also obtainable, but he often freezes the game.
if you were a real gamer, youd know these rumors or at least recognize the game titles or the reasons behind the rumors. stupid noob.
I'm I the only person here that knows of the Legend of Dragoon Myth. Where you can take Lavitz's picture to some place and revive him. I never tried it, or checked on the internet to see if it was true. But still, I am surprised i am the only one here who knows of this.
I LIKE T3H SECKS WIFF T3H N00BS!....
i remember back in the day you were hot ***** if you could get mario in mario bros 1 to actually jump OVER the flagpole at the end of a level. i've heard of friends of friends who claim to have done it, but have never seen it for myself.
can anyone confirm this?
...ok tomb raider 1...nude code...how could this not have been put in.
A _WIENER_ is you!
Chrono Trigger has everything to do with Chrono Cross
dude you deserve a bloody medal for not going first here have one **gives a medal**
I remember doing this in one of the later levels, and running to the right in hopes that I'd found something special and great, and ending up at a warp pipe back to world 1-1. I've also never been able to do it again.
lol how can the sonic and tails in super smash bros not be mentioned i remember my m8 tryin for days to get that no matter how many times i reminded him that they were sega character on a nintendo console... bless him
Practically every Final Fantasy game my friend bought would stir up numerous 'nudity' cheats in his warped little mind, nearly every cheat or rumour he came up with involved the aquisition of naked characters! Wierd no?
I remember EGM posted that you can unlock Sonic & Tails by beating 20 people on Cruel Melee for SSMbros : Melee. I worked about 2 weeks to do it, only to end up with a free copy of Luigi's Mansion :(
Remember all those rumors about being able to unlock sonic and tails in smash bros. for the GC. Suck outrageous ***** had to be done...
What a coincidence posting at the same minute... about like the same exact thing... odd
Well, I always DID think cynically about most of these rumours, that is up until a couple were actually PROVED before my eyes!
Such as:
- Playing as Private Careera in THPS2,
- And unlocking Mew in Pokemon Blue/Red!
Funny story to this; my mate did the good ol' replicating trick where you turn off the Gameboy halfway through the swap. So, ecstatic about finally having number 151, I tried to do the same for another friend of mine. Needless to say, I must've done something wrong - because rather than having 2 Mews on 2 Gameboys, or even just 1 Mew on 1 Gameboy, we both ended up with his crappy Growlithe instead.
How the hell do I remember all of this crap, you might ask?
Yes, pitifully I am still deeply scarred from this loss, to this very day... possibly the worst day of my life, as the friend who had given me it in the first place had left my school and the area forever, and there was no way of getting my Mew back :-(
(Until Gameshark :P)
A few years ago, a guy once practically begged me to sell him my copy of the PC version of Final Fantasy 7 because he believed that there was a code in the PC version of the game that allows you to play as Sephiroth without installing any patches or hacks. Turns out there is a fan made patch that allows this now, but I suppose this still counts as a partial rumor since to this date I have not found a code that does this without the patch.
looking forward for diamond and pearl for what kind of new myths do they invent again
thhe only code you ever needed was ABACABB. After all these years I still know that code.
then it shows up in San Andreas. It's a button code. Funny ain't it?
In the spirit of poorly translated games, you should clearly of said "YOU ARE WINNER"
Remember the neverending aquatic trap levels in Super Mario Bros? Well there was this legened that after a certain number of level you wold fight an aquatic Bowser
Where you could see girls undies in Tekken 4, there was a code or something as i recall. it wasn't a very Gd myth but some of the rumors to get to see the undies w/o the coding were like ~
Dude simple you gotta play whilst M*****ba***
~
And the infamous ~
Simple buy action replay.
~
heh
I don't remember them
there's a lot of evidence with ff7 that aeris was supposed to be resurrected.
In the midgar slums if you talk to the guy that lives in the tube he mutters certain things that bear no relevance to any point in the entire game, these are believed to have been clues for aerith's resurrection.
If you use an Action Replay/Gameshark you can force aeris into your party. It will crash at certain points BUT... at certain points she also has lines to say. These points are after her death so if the game has lines scripted then clearly there was some plan that she could be resurrected or wasn't meant to die. These are the two places I am aware that she will have lines after her death:
1. Great Glacier
If Aeris is in your party just after snowboarding game, she will appear with the rest of the party and have these two lines:
Aeris: “I’m sick of this.â€
Aeris: “Hey. Let’s take a look at the map. Press [SWITCH].â€
2. Fort Condor - Quest for Huge Materia
Aeris will appear with the team as they have a conversation with the old man about the huge materia. She has this line:
Aeris: “We can’t afford to be beaten!â€
After the battle she appears again, and has another line.
Aeris: “What is this?â€
The ghostly figure in the church is not a glitch, it is purely that, a ghost. She was murdered and went back to the one place she had peace. (that's my take on it anyway, others agree with me, some say it is a glitch)
Anyway besides all of this it is just a Myth as it cannot be done without using a cheat device. Square may have intended for her to be around later in the game but changed it before the game was released. It is speculation whether she was intended to be resurrected or whether she was not meant to die. Either way she does die and that is that.
This guide covers getting her into your party and also the times she will appear or glitch the game:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/psx/file/197341/38201
there was a myth about that monster ash spots in the sky some kind of rainbow bird you can find on some island when in some cave you can capture the bird but the GAME WILL NOT CONTINUE after you capture that bird because you get stuck at that stage and thats the end of the game
reply to blazeking, sixaxis is PS3, and it is only tilt sensitive...Mario is Nintendo, Wiimote can sense the jolts...get your system and controllers right
try reading all the other comments for once, some rumors have so many variations that they couldn't obviously list all of them, besides they can always have a second article, that's why you jump it up so that they type more articles like it. idiot
"Forbidden Forest" next to Pewter City, where everythin is Lv100, including wild charizards and others...
egm pblished an aprils fools joke that took out half a year of my friends life trying to see akuma in resident evil 2. but hey he mastered the game and can finish any of the the disc in less than 1 and a half hour without usage of any medicines and just knife and handgun.
Heh, I remember being told the myth about how to get Zack. It was something along the lines of going to the huge split in the ground underwater, and diving your sub into it. I spent ages trying it before my brother finally had a pang of conscience and told me it was a lie.
Good times...
the triforce rumor i heard was in death mountain, and you had to play a certain song then everything will collapse and you fall into a small room with a goron pissing into a river, which was yellow. When you talked to him he would give you the triforce.
PRETTY CRAZY!!
really i didn't know that i am going to tell my cousin that
Did anyone ever hear the myth behind the key in the desert that leads you back into Midgar in Disc Two of Final Fantasy 7?
It's not found in the desert at all. It's actually found at the digging site back on the other continent.
I fought billions of random battles looking for that key. I still have the savefile I were using. Cloud is at level 72!!! Ha! XD!!!
It's funny, I still have my old red cartridge with my save game in which i managed to get all 151 pokemon, back when i was 12. Ah good memories..
I still remember trying to get that truck business to work at the ss anne, and i think i remember reading somewhere about a hidden cave in the diglet tunnel a long long time ago?
Don't cry my friend, all is not lost as u did mention the gameshark. Wounds heal in time, all will be well, in time.
anyone ever hear of the getting Baek in tekken 3? you supposdly had to beat arcade mode 300 times in a row without turning the system off...well after about 2 days of me and my buddies time..we seriously did it...and no baek was found..i wasnt happy. not to mention my playstation never worked the same after being on for 2 days straight....
This was before i would even think someone photo shopped a picture of it..blah
Elite had fantastic myths built right into its novella (http://www.iancgbell.clara.net/elite/manual.htm#A20), like Generation Ships and Space Dredgers. Man, the amount of time I spent looking for those... especially since the Rock Hermits were real!
lol a guy named Wanda
lol someone didn't play Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross *cough*EmuChick en*cough*
what about the nude code for sonya, i dont' think anyone mentioned it.... As a young kid i swore it was possible somehow!!
Hahaha,
I remember, i think it was official Sega Magazine, published a 'cheat' in their tips section that gave you the moves to do in the Saturn version of Tomb Raider 1, which when performed in time with a Spice Girls song would remove Miss Croft's clothes. There was even a badly photo-shopped screenshot. Needless to say this was in the April edition of the magazine.
AsciiSmoke
Just found someone else on the web had seen this too:
http://www.gp32x.com/board/index.php?showtopic=35639&st=45
That was NMS actually, I have that issue, and we did it, there were a few clues. 1:sticking a coing to your cart is stupid, 2:the badly edited screenshots, 3:one of the directions is diagonally up but doesn't say which direction.
Sorry to say it but Chrono Cross sucked compared to Chrono Trigger. there may be some small similarities between the games but they they did not feel connected to me either then i played them.
Apparently there was yet another way of getting the triforce, you just had to beat the one marathon man in gerudu valley as adult link, which would make the icon in the middle of all the medallions light up to a yellow hue. After about ten tries, i decided it was a hoax up until my buddy claimed that you can beat him by tie-ing the runner's time. My friend was going to prove it to me with his cart but couldn't find it. Still haven't retried it due to the whole bogus-ness of the idea. But who knows, could be true.
YESS

was to not fight trainer 5 with a slowpoke on top of nugget hill north of cerulean and not fight the guy whos just outside the view of the house i think east of lavender you go to the house just outside his view then step in it and press start at the same time fly to cerulean and then fight trainer 5 with a slowpoke then fly bak to lavender go to the east road ur start menu will pop up randomly unpause and catch mew...FYI no gameshark required believe me it works on blue red and yellow (GBC versions)
Blazeking was simply stating how some people used to wave the pad/joystick around as if it would help, where as now it actually will do ;)
Nothing to do with which controllers go with which systems...Leave your fanboy arguments at home.
I remember my friend constantly going on about shang long when street fighter 2 came out on the SNES. I thought he just made it up but appearantly he wasnt the first.
And did any body hear about getting sephiroth in FF7?
I read in a magezine that you needed the masamune blade & 1/34th soldier & a mythical soldering iron from beating emerald weapon with an attack that turn monsters into items, i cant remember what that materia or its ability was called but you had to take these items to the swordsmiths house where he was suppose to make a sephiroth clone for your party.
A mate of mine labored hard to no avail. Shame though.
But i am supprised this article didnt mention the trick to getting lara croft naked by her pool. Now theres another one that couldnt work despite how badly at the time i wanted it to.
i remember a rumor about a nude lara in tomb raider 1, the rumor was that if you jumb to the pool in lara's house from the top of a statue next to the pool , u could see lara swimm naked......I tried hours just to climb on that statue...LOL
I didn't know this was a rumor, since I knew it as a fact.
The monstertruck (assuming that's what you mean) can be found hidden behind a bus/trailer/whatever at a trailer-park in the lower middle area of the map. Near the "Suicidal Photographer"-waypoint on this map:

Just look for a area with lots of trees and bushes near the bridge, then there's a driveway of sand to a trailer. jump up on the trailer and look around and you'll see it (usually, sometimes I've seen it fail to spawn, but that was after a lot of explotions and spawning seems to act a litle wierd after that)
Does anyone remember the rumor about smashing the backboard in NBA JAM: Tournament Edition?
was that a rumor or was it real?
I heard if you slam EVERY shot till end of round, the last slam willsmash the backboard. i dunno.
And about the Shadow Of Collosus, HACKING games does wonders.
Oh yah, and i remember SEEING a kid at a local skating rink, playing a specific MODEL of Mortal Kombat 2 arcade, there was a bug that let you do a babality, and then do a fatality on the baby lol. it had to be only on the SPIKED CIELING level, once you turned the enemy into a baby, you upercuted the baby into the spikes. it was a glitch in the system. i SEEN this happen when i was younger one time. since then, havent heard a thing about it.
I remeber in smash bros that you could unlock koopa and other random characters by doing almost impossible things
lol
It is possable to jump over the flag in mario bros for NES, I myself have never been able to, but I did wach my older sister get lil 8bit mario over the flag..... and you just keep walking endlessly until time runs out.
PS: It was on good ol' NES not Famicon
Heh I never heard that Zelda 64 myth, but I did hear the one aout there being a myth that like the original Zelda for NES there is supposedly a second quest in ocarina of time where you play as shiek, plus I have hear many many variations on this myth... and I acctually roamed every freaking inch of that game for the second quest.
And I also have heard the myth about Luigi, I also heard that he is in the game when you rocket to the top to see yoshi, apparently there is a way to see Luigi in the sun and he speeks in japanese though. probably a HUGE myth.
but the biggest myth I think I ever heard was that there is a code and when entered the whole world of Zelda 64 is replaced with the mushroom kingdome, so link is now mario and Ganon is now Bowser and so on.
I have on of those Mews from Nintendo, the cool thing is that the OT on Mew is YOSHIC ... well at least mine is
Anybody ever hear the myth for Pokemon, not the myth about Mew under the truck but that you could drive the truck, and it would replace your bike.... anybody?
YEP, thats right i cant read, because i was dropped on my head as a child. i do not know anything, because i dont read the other articles I JUST DISS THEM!
Darktooth in Twisted Metal 2
Anyone else remember that myth where you put the magikarp that you buy from the guy in the pokemon center before Mt.Moon into the daycare center, let it raise 50 levels, take it out, use 3 rare candys, stop it from evolving twice, and the 3rd time it supposedly evolved into a mew?
ANyone remember the "super secret" fighter in Mortal Kombat II? He was supposed to look like Lui Kang but able to perform EVERY attack from the game. He also had blue pants (or some mundane detail like that). I forgot his name...HORNBUCKLE, that's it!
Oh, I forgot to mention that GamePro (i think that's the zine) published an article on this.
My friend had told me about at least 2 dozen myths on how to obtain Mew in Pokemon Red and Blue on the Game Boy Color. Everything from the Bill's Backyard Myth to the Push the Truck at the SS Anne Dock myth.
I remember in the days of MGS1, there were all sorts of "methods" of opening the big door in the heliport to bypass crawling through the ducts. One such method was shooting the searchlights and the doors would open for repairmen to come out. Another person said you had to knock on the door!
There were many myths concerning a naked Samus on Super Metroid.
I also fell for one on Pokemon that said you had to give a lvl 5 Magikarp to the trainer and he would turn into a Mew at lvl 99. Ouch.
In Super Smash Bros. Melleeyou were supposed to be able to unlock Sonic & Tails. I tried 4 years 2 get them! Didn't work
