Sony PS3, Microsoft Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii - Image 1Media Create has released the Japan console sales figures from November 19 to 25. Quite a few surprises came up, the biggest one being the PlayStation 3 putting up some big numbers that almost matches the Nintendo Wii.

As expected the Nintendo DS still dominated the hardware sales with 116,694 units sold. This was followed by the PSP which clocked in at 75,027 and the Wii at 54,362. Next up would be the PlayStation 3 which sold 50,564 units and then the PlayStation 2 at 14, 875. Finally, the Xbox 360 sold 7,117 consoles followed by the GBA at 82, and the Gamecube at 44.

As expected Nintendo dominated the charts once again with the Nintendo DS and Wii combo outselling all the consoles combined. The PlayStation 3 is slowly catching up though, just 4,000 units behind the Wii. From all indications, the Sony is slowly getting their market share back. If they can maintain this, they may very well be getting their video game division out of the red much sooner than analysts expect.
