Majesco looks to DS and Wii for opportunities

You cancelled Bloodrayne PSP!!! Uwe Boll (*flaming eyes*)!!! - Image 1In light of Majesco Entertainment's recent financial concerns, the Nintendo DS may prove to be a godsend. This explains why a lot of their more recent releases, whether developed in-house or published by them, including the recent F-24 Stealth Fighter and the iconic Cooking Mama (*flaming eyes*) have appeared on the DS.

In an interview with Gamasutra, senior product Manager Liz Buckley cites the low costs for developing DS games and the platform's wide installed base as advantages for Majesco. "Majesco recently refocused its product line on more affordable, lower risk titles with mass appeal. DS development is much less expensive which allows us to risk less and ultimately be more profitable." We can guess it's almost the same reason why they're focusing on the Wii, too, though Liz doesn't mention any reasons that refer to the Wii.

Buckley was quick to point out that simply because the DS (and the Wii) offer a more cost-effective strategy for publishing, it doesn't mean that they'll be phasing out support on other platforms (*flaming eyes*) - in particular the PSP. She did not mention anything in the works on that handheld, though. And it's not too long ago that Majesco had to let go of Advent Shadow and the PSP Bloodrayne (*flaming eyes*). And it seems that 2K Games' Ghost Rider (which has a PSP appearance) originally belonged to Majesco, until it sold the rights to the IP last year.

A company does sit on its bottom line, though. We just hope the need to get back in the black and earning money doesn't keep Majesco from getting good titles out... even and especially for the PSP.
