Jeff Gerstmann mum on GameSpot termination |
Ó
Looking for more nitty-gritty on former GameSpot reviewer Jeff Gerstmann's termination? Word has been around across the internet if you want theories, but if you want the truth out of Jeff's own lips, you can't have it just yet.Valleywag was able to get a response from the controversial Gerstmann, but the ex-Gamespot reviewer politely said that he could not comment about the issue. "This probably won't come as much of a surprise, but I am unable to comment on rumors surrounding my termination," he says.
Gerstmann was allegedly fired from his position by Gamespot parent company CNET after a lukewarm review on Eidos game Kane & Lynch: Dead Men (Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360, PC). It can be recalled that Gamespot has quite an ad campaign going on in their site for the game.
On a lighter note, Gerstmann says he wishes that people would stop calling his parents' house at 2:00 in the morning. Oh well, we suppose that's the price people pay for being instant celebrities.

The thing is that I never trust gamespot reviews and a lot of people too... but what happened to the guy who give 7.5 to rachet & clank? every review site give more than 8.5, 9.0 and 9.5 and they were the only ones with that ridiculous score and this guy with ten years of service giving a low review with a not mediocre game but not a good game either...
The problem with reviews is that they're RARELY unbiased. Look at the back of GameInformer and average the reviews. Count the number of abysmal or even just bad games. Everything's average to great. GameInformer happens to be a publication of GameStop, which makes it their monthly advertisement. I trust GameSpot much more than other sources because they actually do give out bad reviews when they are deserved, but also because they have personality. Jeff was a unique and memorable character, and it will be sad to see him go. If you check YouTube, his review is viewable. It's understandable why the review wasn't accepted warmly, as he sounds sarcastically happy at the beginning, and even recommends against paying full price for the game at the end. If GameSpot were truly unbiased, they would have let this review stay and had a different agreement with the publisher. You can't "buy" a review, and you can't pressure one either. I've lost a lot of respect for GameSpot for letting this happen, as their internal policy for advertisement cost them a man who isn't afraid to speak his mind. That's a trait that we need more than ever in this increasingly-corrupt corporate culture.
every reviewer has their own opinions,
it just so unlucky for sony games because reviewer who is also an xbox fan was assigned on their games on gamespot. and i think sony isnt paying as much as the competition.
I believe that Jeff is the most unbiased video game reviewer the internet has today. He is the only reason why I visit gamespot for reviews.
Believe you guys still being upset for his firing. He deserved it cased closed. All this stuff we reading here about his status is all rumors hence why he didn't feel like talking about it, cause everything that has been said is all speculation and rumors since we know nothing cause they don't want us to know, and we have no right to know, its not our business.
He will get another job in another place and you guys can follow him to where ever. Him staying with gamespot just lowered is rep further, him leaving or getting fired was probably the best move for gamespot and jeff.
These people don't have real jobs or skills.
They don't deserve the money they make.
I could care less, fire them all I say.
Only to the skills part. I mean anyone of us can make reviews does that mean we deserve the money too. I wish i could get the money.
