Nintendo's going black and red. After two and a half years of White domination in the market, Nintendo is now shipping out black Wii units in an effort to further spruce up market interest in the console. As for their monster-seller handheld, the DSi will be donning a new red shade.

Only for Japan (in the meantime?) however, the Black Wii will be carrying a ¥25,000 (US$ 258), accompanied by a Black Wii Remote with a rubber jacket for ¥3,800 (US$ 39), a Black Nunchuk for ¥1,800 (US$ 19), and a Black Classic Controller Pro for ¥2,000 (US$ 21) upon its August 1 release. The Classic Controller Pro for this release is actually an updated model, with new additions of controller grips and modified shoulder buttons.

Meanwhile, arriving on the same date is Capcom's Monster Hunter Tri, and so it is but apt that Nintendo celebrates this Wii-exclusive title as well with a bundled Black Wii, Black Wiimote, Black Console Controller Pro, and the game itself, for ¥33,000 ($341).

As for the red DSi, it will also be launching only in Japan, but at a much earlier date of July 11, 2009. The going price is at ¥18,900 (US$195). So far, the DSi has five other color variations: White, Black, Pink, Lime Green, and Metallic Blue.

Whether or not these new colors are getting out of the Japanese gaming territory is yet to be seen, but we'll be sure to let you know once we get the dibs on it.

now, if you have a ps3 and a wii both in black. that would look wicked. but then again, the wii going black kinda lost it's identity to the ps3 IMHO. it still looks awesome though. hope that one's bannerbomb compatible. :)))

Except my fridge isn't black. :(

And my printer isn't either!!!! NOOO! T_T

The only thing that stopped me from getting a Wii was that it wasn't black. :P Now the only thing that stops me is money! XD

Its about damn time. I don't know why its so hard for the big three to just make new console colors (well MS excluded since they actually have a few). A black Wii is nice, but I liked all the other concept colors they showed way back when the Wii was first introduced. Green would be cool, or orange, or red, something else unique. But you can't go wrong with black. And the new black classic control pro is pretty hot too.
