Yet Thompson questions his reasearch. Thompsons makes claims which aren't proven nor have been done (Tonight show.) Sessler is so educated on subject you can tell he did his homework. You can tell by the way he speaks.

If you hear him, he said that they said they lied about the fact that they said they didn't put the hot coffee mod in... Thats completely wrong! The hot coffee mod was a download, it was NEVER EVER in san andreas! A mod is a mod! You had to download the Hot Coffee mod to get the scenes!

It's a pity, really, I wish some connotatively "regular" people could have an intelligent argument with Jack Thompson about why he is, by and large, wrong about his campaign against violent videogames. Here, we have him pratically bludgeoned by 3 purported "games analysts" and he has no choice but to defend his position. When cornered, the defendant often uses desperate tactics, and Jack Thompson was no different. He won't be willing to admit that he's wrong anytime soon, unfortunately.
Although I'm strongly against Jack Thompson's view on video games, I must say he does make some valid points. I really wish I could have a one on one conversation with him one day.

imagine a small child, desperate for attention. now re-watch that interview. the man is twitching in his seat, just DYING to say what he has to say. hell, when Kevin asks whoever that middle guy is the question about his kids, Thompson just flat out interrupts, not even having been addressed, for the SOLE PURPOSE to point out "I'm a parent too!", hoping that the focus will go back to him.

There's worse things on Cable (and even public) TV than on video games. Do we need a law to keep retailers from selling mature games to kids? When are parents going to act like parents? Why does the Hot Coffee thing keep coming up? Why are violent images always looked less upon over sexual content? There's a ton of other questions we need to ask besides "Are video games bad?"
But in the end, Jack had one or two valid points (I'm not a hater), and so did S-s-s-Sessler (the dude had fire in his eyes). But in the end, Mark was the one that made the most sense.
Sure, exposure to violence can desensitize a person, but playing Doom and shooting a shotgun aren't in the same ballpark. It ain't the same league, it ain't even the same f***ing sport.
To end my POV of the issue: Video games can fan a flame, but it can't start the fire. The people who shoot up their schools probably got enough of 'Bully" without even picking up a controller.
i belive that theres worse images shown on the *****ing NEWS than there is in video games.
the news is nothing but negetive reports, theres never anything positive. lets say someone watches tv and sees a car chase on tv, there just as likely to go out and get in a chase than if they did it in a game!
If anything games allow one to relieve stress. i persoanlly, play GTA to relieve stress or if i just wanna have some fun doing shyt i would never do in real life.

if this moron has ever picked up a controller in his entire life, sat down and actually played GTA, he would know that the things done in the game are there to progrress the story (of which GTA has great storylines). if one chooses to go around and beat up hookers, THATS THERE CHOICE! the game does not force you to do these things.

For this interview adam sessler now has my respect, he *****ing owned that guy like there was no tommorow.
Especially due ot the fact that Jack thompson took small excerpts from the APAs study and decided to exclude any arguments that could have countered his own, for people who don't know about the study that's great, but Kevin and Adam both seemed to have studied the APAs study in depth, and if you read through it there is no conclusive evidence to support thompson's claim (yea I'm a psychology nerd, ***** off).

There is no way u can practice killing people on doom. The game looked like tetris. How do u know that the kid didnt see a movie or something and learned how to shoot.
The main problem i find myself having with jack thompson is that he always refers to people playing a violent video game as "training" for a crime. Many many people have commited crimes copying acts on movies yet this isnt training to kill. I completly agree that games can get a bit to violent for some but it is our right to play such games. I completly agree with a law stoping children younger then 18 from playing. We have laws preventing minors from watching porn, seeing R films, smoking, drinking, even buying real weapons but when it all comes down to it if the person wants to expierence those things THAT bad they will find a way to do so. So in the end YES there should be a law prohibiting sale to minors but PARENTS should be in charge of what there children play NOT Jack thompson, a man whos clearly desperate for attention and a schister at that.

We live in a society where it is easier to blame others for our problems instead of taking responsibility for our own actions. If parents are worried about violence in video games they should not go into a store with their child and buy them what they want like a moron without reading the description of the game.

Christianity as a whole has very little to do with it. There are other religious, and even cultural groups (the black-youth protest against San Andreas last year comes to mind) who are protesting this kind of content.
It's called FANATICISM. There are fanatics in EVERY GROUP under the sun: Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Atheists, White, Black, Green, Gay, Straight, Gamers, Tree-Huggers, Celebrities, Republicans, Democrats, Neo-Con, and Ultra-Libs. Fanatics demonize what they don't agree with; kind of like you demonizing the Christian faith as a whole, rather than just one lunatic's personal crusade to get rich and famous.

I am a Christian and I play and support violent video games. And #54 being a Christian doesn't make a person an idiot.
I have no problem with violence and blood in games. I feel that parents do need to make more of an effort in knowing what their children are playing and I think that government should require that games list what type of content is in games.
I also think that gaming can go too far. For all you gamers that think that everything is ok and everything that Jack Thompson stands for is dumb then think about this. Do you want to see games where you can play the part of a rapist that can rape and kill a woman or child? Stealing cars, killing cops, killing people while robing them is just a game so isn't raping a woman or child just a game too? Do you gamers think everything is ok, or do you think that there should be limits? Its not just watching a movie it doing horrible things in a video game. Is there a line drawn? Should there be a line drawn? I think so and I hope you think so also.
By the way... I disagree with most of what Jack Thompson says, but I do agree with some of the things he wants to do.

I worked at a video store for a while and one day this lady came in with her kid. So the kid ran off into the video games area and about 10 minutes later came up to the counter with his mom. She seemed like she was off in some other world and cared ore about buying gum then her kid. So he hands me the game "Destroy all humans" and i said out loud to her, "ok so it will be $5.00 dollars to rent 'Destroy all humans' please". So she says whatever and pays and leaves. About an hour later she storms back into the store screaming at me and demanding her money back. This is basically what she said, "How dare you rent this game to my child! It doesnt say anywhere that he will be running around killing humans! I demand my money back." So after the manager came and we told her not only did it say on the back that the game was rated T for violence and the name was "Destroy all humans" she demanded her money back and left.
OK. First off how stupid does a parent have to be to not read a god damn name of a game before letting their 9 year old rent it. Second kids these days are just to smart for their parents to keep up with. If we want a game there are plenty of ways to get it.

anyways, for all i know (and what my social study teachers taught me) the first ammendmeent (freedom of speech, press, religion btw) IS still in our government. unless bush did something stupid again, americans can choose to buy games, with violence or not. I've watched kids (and i mean really young kids) DRINK. and does that kid play games? Barely. he'd rather go outside and play with his friends. Who fault is it then that the kid is drinking. the video game or the parent? of course this isnt the only scenario, but it just goes to show that how the parent treats their child IS what determines the outcome for their children.
