It seems that Miami-based attorney Jack Thompson is in for quite the legal scuffle, as none other than the Florida Supreme Court has just laid down the hammer on the outspoken videogame violence critic. What's the verdict?

That Thompson will have to hire another lawyer if he wants to file anything in the Florida Supreme Court. If he tries to do it himself, then he not only risks his case being thrown out, but also risk getting himself penalized. Ouch.

If you've been following Jack's exploits in the legal scene, then you'd have known that the Court had already issued a show cause order that demanded Thompson to explain just why they shouldn't issue the sanction itself. The lawyer rose to the occasion, but it seems that whatever he tried, the Court was set in its decision to penalize him.

The Court seems to have a good reason for the sanction. Here's a quote from the order issued:

ThompsonÂ’s multiple responses are rambling, argumentative, and contemptuousÂ… What we cannot tolerate, however, is ThompsonÂ’s continued inability to maintain a minimum standard of decorum and respect for the judicial system to which all litigants, and especially attorneys, must adhere.

A thorough review of ThompsonÂ’s filings lead to one conclusion. He has abused the processes of the Court. Accordingly, the Clerk of this Court is hereby instructed to reject for filing any future pleadings, petitions, motions, documents, or other filings submitted by John Bruce Thompson, unless signed by a member in good standing of The Florida Bar other than himself.

You can't get any more clear-cut than that. Here's hoping, then, that this issue is resolved quickly and judiciously. Updates as we get them.

# Maybe now he'll learnManny151 2008-03-21 04:55
I hope this guy learns his lesson once and for all. It's getting really old hearing about this guy messing with the game developers and the gaming community as a whole. People are responsible for their own actions and the kind of persons that commit some of these crimes did not need help from a video game to go ape_sh1t and do what they did. I love violent video games but I could never go out and do any of the things I do in the games to a real human being. I wouldn't want him to loose his license........after all he is a family man and has a family to support but I do want him to stop his little crusade against video games and maybe focus his efforts onto something else.

After what he's done to the fans over the past months. It's time that he deserves this punishment.

Simply put, that's what he's been doing with the courts... he's wasting time and money in the Justice system and for that, he should have to seek re-employment. Family man or not.

I'm surprised this hasn't come sooner. If he had legit cases with legit evidence supporting his claims and he took his time collecting said evidence and then presented them all in cohesive package then he would be doing what Lawyers are suppose to do. However, he just jumps on anything and everything he think he can tie to his "cause" and whip it into the justice system without a moments notice.

I can't blame them for getting sick of his antics.

He [was] a freemason, and because he failed to stop Rockstar games (which is a masonic/ illuminati company) they kicked him out of the dirty masonic brotherhood!

His crusade against video games is only against rockstar games (rock-STAR= illuminati)

Jack Thompson may be a family man, but what has he done for his family besides make a fool out of himself? Almost nobody in the justice system takes him seriously and this is proof. If you want to crusade against something why not crusade against ACTUAL violence? This guy isn't an ambulance chaser he's much worse. He preys on people's emotions after tragedies happen in this country and uses this to support his cause. Why not focus on the real problems, like bad parents, mental illness, and perhaps gun control. Believe me stopping violent video games is absolutely not going to stop violence in youth, his claims usually have little to no merit and lack any valid evidence.
