In-Stat: DS To Outship PSP

DS in demandAccording to a market research firm In-Stat, Nintendo DS may ship 25 to 30% more than Sony this year.

In-Stat attributes this rise to the DS's two screens. They say that it was able to open up the handheld market to new types of game play thus raising interest among gamers and getting the attention of new demographic groups. More ladies, young adults, and old folks attracted to the stylus action perhaps?

Nintendo has been able to steadily able to increase its sales of the DS. It has shipped around 16 million units in the 16 months after its launch last November 2004. Last June, Nintendo apparently increased production of their little portable to 2.2 million units per month.

Sony stays firm in their belief that rising DS sales will not affect the PSPs health. But enough about Sony, supply follows demand, so this is definitely good news for DS lovers out there. More DS units in production means the sales have been good, which in turn means that more developers are willing and wanting to make games for the DS.

If demand goes high enough, perhaps prices will lower even more. I'm no economist, but instinct tells me this is a good thing for us, If you think you have a better analysis of the situation the DS and the economy around it, you're welcome to post it here.

Indeed they want to develop for the DS. I mean if a game has a slight intreast in Japan it's going to sell 500k units in 2-3 days! So yea they know they can make money off the DS
