IGN editor Matt Casamassina writes that there was once a time when some smart publisher came up with a bright idea. Said publisher then contacted Microsoft and got the odd project started. A lot of egos were involved, and because of issues that the editor claims he cannot detail, the project was canceled.

What was the project? Halo for the Nintendo DS.

He says he knows this because he was able to get the back-story, and he was able to get a chance to play a build of Halo DS himself.

Halo DS

How does the game play? The IGN editor claims that is a lot like Metroid Prime Hunters but with a Halo aesthetic. He says that it is all too sad that the "too good of an idea" ended up canceled. Would you play Halo on the DS? More importantly If you were involved in its making somehow, would you have allowed the cancellation to occur?

» Incredible

That really would have been a thing to see. Disappointing, but somewhat inevitable that it couldn't come about.

» Damn!

I definitely would've picked up this title. It's too bad, I wanted to see how this was going to turn out.

» best for all

They have it on Mac, why not the DS? It would be an excelent marketing decision for both, not to mention it would disrupt some fanboys who now criticize Microsoft - they are a very good company, statistics don't lie. Anyway, I think any fan would buy it and it would probably be charged as one of the DS's new killer apps, possibly a good rival to Pokemon - even though I don't think they'll sell as many as the entire Poke franchise, it could at least rival the new diamond and pearl. If Nintendo released this close to christmas or early 2008 they'd make a killing.

» Leak it!

Whoever developed this should just accidentally leak it to the P2P networks and blame it on hackers.

In a "not" related story Microsoft studios are working on a PSP project.

» There is no way this is real.

Because if he did, surely he would not be allowed to reveal the existence of such a game under any circumstance. Cancelled or not.

» Damn.

I would totally have bought (by which I mean downloaded) that game in an instant. And once I confirmed it didn't suck, then I would have actually bought it.

Also, no way in hell would I have let it be cancelled.

Possibly the stupidest idea ever to cancel this. I don't think you need to have asked if we would have played it or not. Of course we would and I'm not even a Halo fan.

» what?
