Maybe someone could make some money selling pre-flashed DS Lites. After all, it is very handy to be able to run homebrew without using a PassMe device.

flashing a DS is a piece of cake, unless stupid enough to take out the battery
but flashing DSL can be a bit scary(ya, it heppened when i was flashing mine...)
but for those of you new to this, i suggest practice on your DS first...

In order to play homebrew on a DS you need two components, one is a passme device which fits into the DS slot and the other is a supercard (or similar) which plugs into the GBA slot.
Traditionaly, passme's have been large bulky units which stuck out of the back of the DS. Using flashme bypasses the need for a passme device. But with passme devices now the size of DS carts, there is less need to perform this operation.
Then why am I performing flashme? Because the small size passme was realeased the day after I purchased my bulky formfactor passme!!!

Cool video though. I never knew much about the process before watching this. Seems extremely easy haha. But I'm going to be getting a SuperKey anyway (which supports sleep mode) I can't think of much reason to flash =S

if your thinking of flashing couse you are like me and have a Passkey 2 or other pass through device and want the security that flashme gives for the firmware be carefull of what you do.
if you just want to be rid of the bulky pass through device i say buy a passcard 3 for 30.00 even if you just bought a pass through device couse in the end that is a good investement to keep from accidentlly bricking your DSL just couse you wanted less bulk.

any way desided to give it a try again last night after posting, though this time i used a packing staple as i call them (large metal staples used for heavy duty boxes) i bent it straight and made sure the end would conduct. any way looded the flashme program and shorted the contacts.... no go moved the staple to a differant position still no go pressed even hard (was flexing the PCB) and twisted the staple a little got 1% then stopped.
took about five repositions of the staple and pressing very hard (could hear plastic creaking) to finally get it to flash all the way. i think the issue alot of people have like me is that the pads are not pefectly flat or level to each other so any metal object like a screwdriver or staple doesn't get full connection with out wigling it to the point of shorting something and killing your DS.
any way hope this helps some people who are having issues. best thing you can do if you want to flash using a tool that is not foil is test fit and press hard enough to leave marks on the pads to see how you have to position the tool when you flash and how hard you need to press to make proper contact.
also there is two v7 flashme firmwares one is around 269KB and the other is around 526KB. if you have a DSL you need the 526KB as it supports the 4 brightness levels where the 269KB will work but will only shut the back light off.

I bet the people that brick their ds are mostly the people that post a question to a forum that is covered in the sticky topic right above their new post.
They are the same people that ask, "What does RTFM mean?" every time someone tells them to RTFM.
They skip the readme's, and don't understand the value of the search function of forums.
Flashing your DS Lite isn't complicated, but it does require you to know what you are doing and why you are doing it.
Bricking is a darwinian defense mechanism built into modern electronics.
RTFM, Search, and learn some patience.
Oh, and if you are one of those people, if you ever have sex, please use a condom for the sake of the future.
