Hinge Cracks in the DS?

Picture says a thousand words, eh? You're not dreaming guys. It's the DS hinge crack. We overheard this in a VGM Daily Interview: "I have a DS Phat. My hinge on my original DS has cracked in much the same way and fashion as the DS Lite hinge." We haven't really confirmed it yet, but it's highly possible. In past articles, it used to be the DS Lite's only Waterloo, but now it looks like even the sturdier-looking original DS has developed the problem as well. Just goes to show that being big won't protect you from damage.

We've been playing with our DS for a long time and so far it didn't develop any cracks (and we're not among the "play safe" type). We're not sure if this happens only in the US and Europe because so far we haven't heard any DS cracks in Japan. Could it be a weather thing as well? We can only speculate but Nintendo will have to find the source of the problem and deal with it as soon as possible.

Since the DS Lite can be repaired, free of charge, will it cover the original DS as well? So far we haven't heard any official word from Nintendo about these developing cracks. In our opinion, as long as it doesn't affect the game and gameplay, it's ok. Nothing lasts forever.

If any of you guys out there have cracked DS hinges, let us know.

First or maybe Second hinge-cracked ds lite in Switzerland

I sent my white ds lite in 2 weeks ago. Apparently i was the first or second (no idea's who's was first) ds lite here in switzerland to get that problem. *****ing sucks, anyway, getting a brand new ds lite from the importer this week. Atleast they help a brotha out ;)

It takes a licking and keeps on ticking...

Chances are cracking a regular DS would be quite a difficult feat to accomplish. I have owned a DS for several months now. So far I managed to repeatedly drop it, carry it out into heavy rain, collide with a metal beam at a running pace with my DS taking the full impact, sit on it, repeatedly jab the touch screen with my stylus in a rough manner, etc. and besides getting a few cosmetic nicks on the outside it is pretty much undamaged. No, I am not that rough with my electronics, but I was tempted to do a few stress tests. heh heh...

I think you people are just idiots and don't take care of your electronics. I bought my DS used and there was nothing wrong with it, and I've had it over a year. Can you guess what condition it's in? That's right, the same as when I bought it - Mint. Can you guess what problem hasn't happened to my DS? Hinge cracks. Do you know why? Because I don't fling my DS around like it's invincible and I know how to take care of my belongings.

wow

a broken ds hinge makes devistating world news? wow. why do these sites always blow up the tiniest negative thing on any system that seems to be popular. might aswell make it news that the psp does in fact crack at the slightest drop lol. its comon for anything with a hinge to break the ds is nothing special you guys just cant take care of one, god knows the times ive dropped both my phats and my lite and all they get are tiny scuff marks. the phats plastic isnt the solid kind like the psp so getting it to crack would requre quite an impact. lemme write to qj about how i dropped my psp from my bed and its screen cracked so i can give them a new story for the psp section lol.

broken DS Phat hinge

I'm not making a big deal out of it like some people in the above comments are suggesting. But, my son has the original Nintendo DS game. We ordered it before they even came out and he has played it immensely. The hinges are broken pretty bad on it. We have glued it but it doesn't stay. I am trying to find a replacement case for it. Does anyone know if Nintendo is selling these? I have found them on ebay from Hong Kong, but I'm pretty sure that they are a knock off and I'm leary of buying one. Has anyone else tried this? Please let me know.

broken hinge

I have bought two nintendo ds's last year both have had the hinges broken on my children. I called the company and they said they will fix them for 75$. That is crazy you can buy a decent used one for that. How can they charge that kind of money for just a hinge. I think its very poor customer service. They tried telling me they have been handled poorlywhich is un true. These broke within 6 months of purchasing.
