Brain Training - Image 1Brain exercising games seem to be the norm in gaming these days, but even the health industry is catching up on the trend. Cogmed, a company dealing with brain fitness software is currently being used by individuals with mental disability  or by those who just need to exercise their brains to keep their wits about.

One successful case is of Alex, a young boy diagnosed with attention deficit disorder. Instead of putting the boy in medication, his mother decided to enroll him into one of Cogmed's brain stimulation program.

It exercises parts of the brain that governs over short-term memory. It improved Alex's ability to concentrate and remember daily tasks.

Other health-related companies such as Humana, a health insurance company, offers brain fitness programs that are designed to enhance memory as well as induce learning.

Nintendo's own DS handheld has its own repertoire of brain-training games that are currently being enjoyed by people from all walks of life, but not all know about other gadgets that are designed for that very purpose, such as devices created by Dakim Inc. One such gadget features touchscreen input, and it also has entertaining learning software.

Brain fitness already founded a whole new industry on its own, and it'll sure be interesting to keep tabs on its progress and development. Will it take off, or will it be just a fad? Only time will tell.
