Nintendo's 3DS handheld is getting a double dose of fighting action later this year. One is Capcom's Super Street Fighter IV 3D. The other is Dead or Alive: Dimensions from Team Ninja. For the latter, Team Ninja is adding in not only 3D visual effects but some new features designed to make the fighting game more accessible and pick-up-and-play friendly.
For one, Team Ninja has added a revamped counter system based on the one used in Dead or Alive 3. In order to evade the pitfall of having counters that end up being too easy to execute, Team Ninja rebalanced the High, Mid, and Low counters and their effects based on feedback from fans. The result was sort of a middle ground between Dead or Alive 3's easy coutners and Dead or Alive 4's relatively more difficult gamepay.

Another of these new features is a touch-controlled system that lets players execute complicated moves just by touching it on the 3DS's touch screen interface. These don't just include supers but each character's entire movelist as well, giving even novice players complete access to moves and combos that would normally take them a few hours' worth of practicing.
Yosuke Hayashi, who leads Team Ninja, revealed to video game news blog Siliconera that the rationale behind the touch screen movelist arose from the team's desire to make Dead or Alive: Dimensions more accessible. Cutting down on the time needed for players to familiarize themselves with and memorize a lot of moves and commands means players get get to enjoy the game without too much undue stress.
“I remember playing the sparring mode for countless hours because I needed to memorize my favourite characters’ techniques,” Hayashi told Siliconera. “Even so, a week later I would forget a few of those combos and would have to go through them again. Taking these experiences into consideration, the team decided to give players a chance to enjoy the beauty of 3D fighting games without having to work out too much to get to this level.”
