Halo Informer thinks Halo on DS is a hoax |

Dennis of Halo Informer calls BS on Matt Casamassina's claim over at IGN that he was able to play Halo on the DS.
His reasons? First, the post date. January 4th? Turn 1/4 around and it becomes 4/1, or April 1st. We don't have to explain the significance of that. Second, if the game was actually in development, they wouldn't have any thoughts about releasing the story at the time they were playing it. Dennis says that it would've been one of the biggest stories of the year, and it would be foolish to let it pass. Lastly, the mock-up was fake. Dennis notes that there should be at least one camera in IGN's offices.
Dennis speculates that if this wasn't a flat out prank, it may have been a test to see how much people actually want to see Halo on the DS. He also notes that Matt Casamassina is on vacation, a scenario that he implies we've seen before.

Multiplayer maps contain textures in Halo. The ones used in the PC version easily got huge because you needed graphics to display well at 1600 X 1200. Dumbing down the textures for the DS will scale it down to a few megs, before compression.
There isn't gonna be halo on a DS unless its homebrew. Microsoft doesn't support helping a rival. A homebrew version is possible if someone actually worked on it, but it will never be as near as good as any shooter on DS.

Let's see here:
Nintendo DS: 67MHz main CPU, 33MHz secondary. 4MB main ram. RISC architecture.
Xbox: 733MHz Intel Pentium 3 based Celeron. 250MHz NVidia GeForce 4 based graphics chip. 64MB RAM. x86 architecture.
Not only is the DS obviously nowhere nearly powerful enough, but it would need to emulate the xbox's processors. My old 350MHz Pentium II computer struggles to emulate a super nintendo that runs at 3.58 MHz. Do you really think a 67MHz CPU can emulate a 733MHz CPU and a 33Mhz general-purpose CPU emulate a 250MHz single-purpose graphics chip? YOU try it, come back with the results.
There is physically absolutely no way this is or ever will be possible. If someone does manage to port an xbox emulator to the DS and squeeze it into it's tiny 4MB of RAM, it'll run at way less than 1FPS max.
I don't know why I even bothered to post.

Also it'll never happen Microsoft only does Microsoft so halo only goes for Microsoft Consoles (Xbox, Xbox360, and PC) and we wont see Microsoft helping a competitor

we are talking about them making a version of halo for the DS. which means.. lower polygon count.. lower texture sizes... lower quality sounds .. ect.. whats that equal? LOWER FILE SIZES..
now im not saying its true or not.. but why would someone make a april fools joke so early? especially someone from a higher rep site like IGN....
2nd.. just because 1/4 reversed is 4/1 doesnt mean its a joke.. it just means someone on the short bus was smart enough to look at his monitor in a mirror .. OMG!!! lol wtf..
take it as a rumor but dont call the guy a liar because of a coincidence.

and it is in no circumstance that this will ever happen nor you shouldn't believe every thing you see at high ranked game sites and i saw this on the main page

Maybe if someone hacked into Bungie/Microsoft's computer systems, stole the source, removed quite a bit of logic and completely removed a large amount of the graphics engine and scaled everything else back, a version could be compiled and run on the DS. But, it still wouldn't be halo. The entire game was coded w/ 64MB of RAM in mind. It would be very difficult to sift through the hundreds of thousands of lines of code to identify everything that needs to be removed and scaled back. And in the end, so much would need to be cut that it still wouldn't be halo.
If a homebrew game was made, it's still not halo. It would be rather difficult to faithfully recreate the entire halo game. Such an undertaking would require a large team of software devs and would probably need to be created as an open-source project unless one has the millions of dollars needed to fund it. If it was open source, by very definition we would all know about it before even the first line of code was written. Either way, you would get sued by Bungie's owner Microsoft. Microsoft would never allow a knock off game or even the original to run on a competitor's console.

Yes. Yes it does. And that means nothing. If it was intended as an April Fool's joke, it would have been posted ON APRIL FOOL'S.
-"Second, if the game was actually in development, they wouldn't have any thoughts about releasing the story at the time they were playing it. Dennis says that it would've been one of the biggest stories of the year, and it would be foolish to let it pass."
Ever heard of a Non-Disclosure Agreement? Or how about when one development insider invites someone in to play a game, but says "You can play it, but don't say anything or I'll lose my job." Brains, people. Use them.
-"Lastly, the mock-up was fake. Dennis notes that there should be at least one camera in IGN's offices."
What's that you say? The MOCK-UP was a FAKE!? You'd almost think that was the definition of the term "mock-up" or something. How silly! As far as cameras, refer back to the last point; Publish a pic of the game, somebody gets fired. Wow. Who would've expected a blind Halo fanboy at a site called "Halo Insider".
And after all that, I'll admit it could be a hoax. There's just no way Dennis' twisted "logic" proves anything one way or another.
