GTA Chinatown Wars has more code than San Andreas, more details

Chinatown Wars contains more code than San Andreas - Image 1Anyone familiar with programming will know that the length of code doesn't dictate how good the actual end result is.

That said, it's still a wonder that Rockstar was able to squeeze in "more lines of code" into Grand Theft Auto:Chinatown Wars for the DS than the PS2's San Andreas. This was according to a preview of the game in the latest issue of EDGE.

They said that Chinatown's "far bigger" than the Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories, but I didn't think they'd be literal about it. The magazine further states that Chinatown is "twice the size" of either PSP game. Here are several other details mentioned in the mag:
  • The Satellite navigation system is "identical" to GTA IVs in appearance and functionality.
  • Ammunation has gone online! You order weapons with your PDA and they show up at your safehouse.
  • You can replay any mission by selecting it from a menu in the safehouse.
  • Grenades and molotovs are thrown using the touch screen - you touch one and drag it, with an indicator on the top screen (where the action is) showing you where it's going to land.
  • The A button is used to fire weapons.
  • One minigame involves assembling all of the parts of a sniper rifle with the touch screen, before using it to assassinate a designated target.
  • Another touch-sensitive mini-game will be paying bridge tolls - you push the coin into the slot to get through the barrier.
  • While some might perceive them to be gimmicky, EDGE describes the mini games as being "short" and "smoothly integrated".
The more outspoken of you criticized the game for still being "kiddy" despite BBFC and ESRB ratings, but personally, from all I've seen of the game so far, it looks like a really great game and I'd buy it whether it's kiddy or not.

I agree. I'd get a DS, again, for this game. :)

# Yeah, me too. I'm hoping for "better than GTA2 for dreamcast."UltimaArmorX 2009-01-23 13:37
But hey, I can totally imagine some white-haired lawyer on the news babbling something along the lines of "...now they're teaching our kids how to assemble firearms..!?"
