GTA: Chinatown Wars - first screenshots and additional details revealed |
Ó
A recent article Nintendo Power magazine recently revealed some of the new features that the latest installment in the Grand Theft Auto series will be packing. Set to be released on the DS, Grand Theft Auto: China Town Wars will have all the trademark elements of the action-adventure sandbox series, as well as some new innovations adapted for use on the Nintendo handheld.
Don't expect a simplistic top-down version of the console GTAs though. GTA: Chinatown Wars actually uses an isometric view with cel-shaded polygons to depict all the hardcore action. Despite the small size of the characters, you can still expect a lot of mayhem and destruction, typical in any GTA title.
Here's a list of game features that gaming site Gamerkyo was able to summarize from the Nintendo Power article:
- True GTA game - sandbox gameplay, open-world environment, gritty crime narrative.
- M-rating
- Isometric camera angle
- Cel-shaded polygons w/ black borders
- good touch-screen implementation - 'tasteful' minigames, streamlining interface
- UI based on a PDA - hub for email, contacts, map, music player, GPS, stat-tracking
- stats uploaded to Rockstar Social Club website via Wi-Fi
- finger-sized icons
- missions designed for shorter periods of play, arcade quality
- aiming with control pad, auto targeting with R button
- subtle autosteer
- if you fail a mission, you can jump back to the action sequence
- chain gun, flamethrower
- good portion of Liberty City is modeled in the game (different routes than console games)
- no problems with load times, draw-in or frame rate
- lots of pedestrians, cars, etc on screen
- Wanted system - objective is to disable police cars any way possible
- real-time weather effects, 24-hour day/night cycle
- lots of radio stations to listen to (more instrumentals than vocals)
- 800,000 lines of hand-optimized source code (hey, the people like the info, right?)
- no details yet on multiplayer/Wi-Fi features

Poor GTA.
Forced into a max of 256 MB with a graphic style that looks like the GameBoy GTAs.
Looks terrible.
HOT BOILING MESS!
Why did they even bother with this? Playing this game will be very circa 1998. It's like we are being forced back in time and told to 'have fun!' Ugh!
It actually looks to be more fun than most of the "modern" GTA's.
those screenshots are just incredibly grainy,
theres about 10 more pics of the game floating around the internet and they look a lot better
