Ghostbusters logo - Image 1 We've seen in recent news that Activision Blizzard did not include Ghostbusters: The Video Game (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, DS, PC) in its list of releases slated for 2008. Fears that it might be canceled were expressed, but the latest indicators suggest otherwise.

Over at the Variety blogs, it was reported that Vivendi is "re-evaluating" its options on how to go about releasing the multiplatform game. Sony Pictures (which will release the movie counterpart) is also in the mix to try and decide what's best for the project.

Since the movie and the game won't be coinciding, the early idea according to Sony is to release the game on the franchise's 25th anniversary in 2009. The only question now is who gets to publish it.

It was pointed out in the post that given the marketing and development money already spent on the game, it's hard for publishers to not take interest in picking it up. The company with the sweetest offer should skate away with the goods at the end of it all.

» Movie?

Movie? --Since when was a new Ghostbusters movie due to come out? To me, that's the bigger news. I thought that Acroyd and Co. were doing the Game instead of a movie. If there's really a new movie coming out, that would be cooler, because the game just looked to be ripping off elements of the first two Ghostbuster films, anyway.

» Kinda...

It's actually a CGI movie due out next year. All the original voices will be used, however.
