GDC 09: new Zelda DS game announced, Wii storage solution announced *UPDATE* |
Ó

The latest out of GDC is from none other than Nintendo President Satoru Iwata, who has no need for humility as he announces that the Wii is the fastest-selling game console in history, having officially shipped 50 million consoles worldwide.
But who cares about that. Old news. Moving on. You'll care more about the new Zelda game that was announced, as well as the firmware update that they issued as an answer to the Wii storage problem.
The new Zelda game is coming to the Nintendo DS later this year, and is titled The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks. Reports say that its visual style is similar to The Phantom Hourglass. A trailer was shown during the event but we don't have an embeddable version out yet... so just use your imaginations?
As for the Wii storage solution, Nintendo will be issuing Wii Menu 4.0, which will feature the SD Card Menu. This will lift the 2 GB mem card cap and will allow higher capacity cards. Games can be downloaded and launched straight from the SD card without going through the Wii System Memory. The update will be available today. Finally, eh?
That's it. Toodles.
*UPDATE* Whoops, that's not it. Nintendo has just released the official debut trailer of The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks. And it looks like they meant "tracks" literally. Gameplay will include trains. Yes, trains. Yes, that's what I said. Just watch it why don't you.

Think ill stick with my 360...
Honestly if your thinking of buying a Wii..DONT!
Get a PS3 or 360 instead unless you like crappy games.
Nintendo could have added the SD feature from the off but they didn't because well its... Nintendo maybe a little too "advanced" for them. They only decided to add them when enough users complained about the storage problem.
Call me a PS3/360 fanboy if you want im just a pissed of Wii owner, last time im giving my money to Nintendo!

I'm not sure how that translates well to trains on a track (aside from the more obvious fact that the setting doesn't seem to have the Great Sea anymore, but lush greens and fields).
BUT I'll say this tho... hmm, for some reason tho, they did get the spirit of it down pat. Maybe it's the music. But the feel of seeing trains throwing bombs and stuff - reminds me of LoZ:PH. So that's good. ^_^
But still, I'd definitely give this a try! The dungeon crawling aspect looks as fun as it's always been! Yay!
BTW... anyone notice that the trailer involves a DSi? I wonder if it's going to be a DSi-specific game... Hmm... A scary thought.

Glad to hear the BS rumor of a seperate HDD storage device that you had to bounce everything back and forth from is dead.
And I look forward to a new Zelda as well! Too bad it wont come out in time to be my first DSi title :(

With DLC and the cameras they could offer some great things, the first thing that comes to my mind is something like EyeToy Portable, and that's just one example.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure we will see cool things coming with the Europe and USA releases of the DSi model. The DSi totally changed my mind of the DS. I may get my own one now.
Borrowing the one of my sister is getting annoying... ;)

I still need to beat my Hourglass first.
And about time for that firmware update.

I guess Nintendo STILL doesn't care about quality Wii games.
