Final Fantasy XIII - Image 1

Oh you did not just say that *snap* *snap*. *FIRAGA*!

Major bummer. Square Enix prez Yoichi Wada has just announced that the delay of Dragon Quest IX for the DS may affect the release of Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, 360).

Well, frak.

Final Fantasy XIII It may be affected by Dragon Quest IX's delay. We'd like to work towards (a release) within fiscal 2009.

We've yet to finalize our plans for the next term, so I cannot say for sure if there will or will not be an effect, but Dragon Quest's release being March or July changes the premise. I can't say that there won't be an influence.

Apparently, the reason for Dragon Quest IX's delay was caused by a bug they didn't catch in time. Oh well. It's not like we already had a definite release date for FFXIII to look forward to anyway. It's not like we lost anything.

» man

WTF? So Final Fantasy XIII, a PS3 and Xbox 360 game, will be delayed because of Dragon Quest IX, a DS game?

You would think that the developers of a DS game aren't the same like the one of the HD consoles...

Seems like I was wrong....

» Hmmm

When a game is being developed, there are sections such as the musical department, sound, graphics, story, and so on.

Being a DS game does not mean its developers are of low stature or something. They could every well be waiting for some people from the sound or story department.

You also have to consider that they're trying to please their investors. If they release two games too close to each other, they get too much money in one quarter of the year, and not enough money in another quarter. On paper, that'll look like they lost money. They have to time it right so they can spread their earnings evenly.

» ugh.

im so mad that DQ9 isnt on PS3! DQ8 was amazing and how the next installment is gonna be dumbed down to chibi characters....pisses me off.

» That retarded!

Honestly. A DS game gets delayed and it messes with a PS3/360 game? Someone's gotta get their priorities straight.

» Blame MS!!!

Blame MS for getting SE to make a 360 version of FF13 they freaking delayed everything!

you're an idiot... GTA4 wasn't dumbed down because of the 360 and also the 360 doesn't use HDDVD's they use DVD9's which are regular DVD's but they're dual layered.

» gta4

was supposed to have character customization in the actual game but was taken out to fit the 360

» hmm

it shouldnt really matter how the games "looks" as long as gameplay, sound, and story are good. and DQ characters are made to look like cartoons anyway i thought.

no. the only thing you should blame MS for is helping SE sell a lot more FF13 copies, which gives SE a lot more money, which will in turn make SE capable of making better games (I would hope) that EVERYONE can play. besides, we're getting FFVersus13 exclusively on ps3 anyway. dont be so ignorant.

» oh isn't the internet great...

...no proof needed, just assumptions. ;)

first, this is about dqix delaying ffxiii, not the 360. the 360 port of ffxiii doesn't start until after the japanese ps3 version is finished! the devs have said this enough times already. so although the 360 port _may_ delay the us/european version, it has no affect on the initial release of ffxiii in japan.

secondly, there's no proof that customization was ever in gtaiv. the devs never said it was, it was only gamers yapping away online who assumed it :). besides, the game's story focuses on you being a _specific_ character, Niko Bellic, not some generic character who can fit neatly into the storyline regardless of gender or race. Therefore it is clear that customization was never in gtaiv from the start.
