A Japanese trailer for the DS remake of Square Enix's Final Fantasy IV has finally been released into the wilds of the Internet. Thanks to GameTrailers and whoever invented the embed feature, you can check it out below all these introductory blocks of text.

From what this blogger remembers about the game as well as the limited Japanese that I am in command of, this trailer takes place either right after or right before the Red Wings have taken the Water Crystal. The "right before" idea is reinforced by the final scene in the trailer, which shows an army going towards a mountain.

It features Cecil, still in his bad-ass Dark Knight get-up, talking to Rosa about (now this is just guesswork) his misgivings over Baron's actions in regards to their merciless acquisition of the Crystals. Cecil talks about the wizard village of Mysidia, which houses the Water Crystal. Kain Highwind also makes a cameo, looking on as the couple talks.

Judging by the quality of the graphics, Final Fantasy IV for the DS will be one heck of a beautiful game to play. Final Fantasy IV for the Nintendo DS handheld system is slated for release in Japan this year. Hopefully a North American release will also be announced soon.

» Ashame.

I've played FF3 on the DS, and really I'm kind of disappointed. The Nintendo DS really isn't suited for a all out 3D final fantasy. If FF4 ends up like FF3 I'll just be wishing it ends up on the PSP instead.

Even watching the Cinematics were really grainy. Probably because of the poor quality of the Nintendo DS screen. The idea of using a stylus at first seemed cool but it's so pointless when you play the actual game.

All I'm trying to say is, I think these Vintage FF games deserve more than just the world of the handheld, or at least deserve better graphics.

» They do deserve more...

However, the DS screen is anything but grainy. The PSP is not the place for nintendo classics. FF4 to me was best in 2D, and this new look is intriguing, but GBA re-release is god. Stop saying bullsh*t like grainy cinematics you baby.

» QJ...sigh...

The army going towards the 'mountain', btw, is the attack on the Tower of Babel. That's the tower of Babel, not a mountain. None of that stuff except for Cecil speaking with Rosa has anything to do with the Water Crystal take from the Mysidians. Anyway... fix it.

» And of course.

In typical Square fashion, never showing 1 second of the crappy gameplay graphics, but trying to douse everyone's mind with pretty cinematics to make every idiot THINK the game will look that good. (hey, it worked with FF7 and onward, right?)

F Square. F them SO freakin' much.

I can't stand the company - there hasn't been a good FF game since 6. Wow, the game is going to be "SO BEAUTIFUL..." With what, 10-20 second pre-rendered cinematics? Yeah, RIGHT. The DS can barely handle any kind of 3D so it really doesn't make sense why they would try to hype it. (other than "it's Final Fantasy, so OF COURSE it's good") Final Fantasy games are just pure fanboy and fangirl wastes of time and they really should stop making them.

» I agree with some things...

FF7 was Ok, but not great. 2D graphics are fine with me, personally...I think this game will be great, but I'd like to see in game cutscenes, like metroid hunters, rather than a silly clip at the beginning. Also, you should play FF9... That's the only one I consider legitimate besides 7 in the post 6 era...
