Fils-Aime explains details of GTA-Nintendo deal, no Wii title in the making so far |
Ó
It was rather surprising for some to find an actual Grand Theft Auto title make its way to the Nintendo platform. However, for Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, he found nothing strange about the upcoming Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars making its way on to the Nintendo DS.Take-Two and Rockstar have always wanted to make a Grand Theft Auto title for Nintendo. Fils-Aime explained that after many talks with both the GTA publisher and developer, they are now all looking forward to the response the new title will generate.
Fils-Aime was rather confident about the upcoming title's potential to boost sales for the handheld. While the idea of a GTA title on any Nintendo platform was previously frowned upon, the company president believed in Take-Two to deliver nothing but the best content for their platforms.
However, don't hold your breath for a Wii-based GTA title just yet. Any future titles on the console will all depend on the whim of Rockstar and Take-Two. While there were no actual plans of a Wii title in the making, Fils-Aime admitted that he would like to see such a game that will take advantage of the Wii's capabilities and can push the console to its very limits.
No details were revealed of what Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars will look or play like. We'll be sure to keep an eye out for any new details regarding the game, so drop by again here at QJ.NET just in case we pick up any new updates for it.

I bet it's a port of the GBA version, and just as crappy.
You'll NEVER see GTA on the Wii. There would be no point.
and its called maximizing revenue lol.
1) I bet it's not.
2) I wouldn't rule one out. And there would be a point, idiot.
There was a GTA for GBA, and the first 2 titles were ported to the GameBoy Color...
I don't know if they were handled by Take-Two or not, but they were still GTA titles on Nintendo platforms.
Anyway, I'm interested to see what they can do on the DS for a GTA. Sure, it won't be a mini-GTA3 style game like the Stories' on PSP, but I hope it'll take the dual screen and touch capabilities to good use. I'm not expecting a full 3D world, so it'll take a lot more to disappoint me. I wouldn't mind a top-down view like GTA1, 2, and Advance, but hopefully it's a better engine. Like that woman said at the conference, it's a new engine built for DS.
If a GTA ever does come to Wii, which I think is highly likely (the GTA4 sales prove that multiconsole releases grab the $$$, and this would expand their marketplace a ton), I just hope they can do a better job than Scarface, The Godfather and Driver. Then again, those were all ports...
1. The DS can't do 3d very well, so it would probably be top down view like the old ps1 games.
2. IF there was GTA on the Wii, it would almost definately be a port of a PS2 game. I don't see the point in that at all, even if it makes a couple bucks.
