Post-TGS report

It's been a month since the conclusion of this year's Tokyo Game Show and Famitsu magazine's released the survey results they took on-site during the celebrations. The survey had around 4,000 attendees, with 2,500 to 3,000 answering all the survey questions. The survey covered some of the more pressing issue of the TGS, such as which console they felt were gonna choose as the next-gen console. Here were the results:
  • PS3 - 58.3%
  • Wii - 33.8%
  • Xbox 360 - 7.9%
These aren't official statements, mind you, just the added up opinions of the dudes over at Japan, courtesy of Famitsu.

The next survey deals with the attendees' opinions on the pricing for the Xbox 360 Core System, the PS3 20GB, PS3 60GB, and the Wii.

The Xbox 360 Core System ¥ 29,800 (US$ 250)

  • 25.2%
  • 65%
  • 9.8%

The PS3 20GB ¥ 49,800 (US$ 420)

  • 56.5%
  • 35.7%
  • 7.8%

The Wii ¥ 25,000 (US$ 210)

  • 13.6%
  • 60.5%
  • 25.9%

The PS3 60GB ¥ 62,800 (US$ 530) Note: this estimate comes AFTER the survey was taken - the price release wasn't yet available during TGS.

  • 64.6%
  • 20.1%
  • 15.3%
In connection with the two PS3 models to be launched, Famitsu asked the TGS attendees which one they preferred:
  • 65.8% for the 60GB model
  • 34.2% for the 20GB model
Famitsu also asked the guys how they felt regarding the Wiimote:
  • 24.5% - It looks unique and user-friendly
  • 24% - It looks hard to use
  • 19.2% - Playing one-handed is a good thing
  • 14.5% - Playing one-handed is weird.
Then there's the attendees' purchasing plans, divided up in five categories:"No plans to buy the system", "Buying on launch day", "Hoping to get it as an Xmas gift (I've been a goood boy/girl!)", "Waiting after appropriate software and accessories are released", and "Only if I've got cash to spare *looks in wallet*".

360 score aint bad

8% in japan aint bad at all lol. And when blue dragon and lost oddysey are out that will rise. I have a 360 and a wii on pre order. No plans for a ps3 yet, simply just looking at the most anticipated ps3 games just shows nothing for me. wii is just gonna be fun and 360 has gears of war, lost planet, blue dragon, lost oddysey, splinter cell i could go on all day....halo 3? ps3 just isnt packing any punch in the games department yet.

Ahahaaha

Seriously 8% is GOOD? What kind of Xbot are you? The 360 will struggle to pick up in Japan, and with the Wii and PS3 looming, I can gaurentee, the Japanese will forget about the 360, when the two are launched. PS3 has plenty of great exclusives, more so than the 360's, which a large section of its 'exlusives' are available on PC; or are going to be.

You don't get it do you?

0% could choose 360 in Japan. M$ isn't going away. They have the money to make their gaming machines until we die. Honestly, aside from a few Japanese developers (Tecmo mainly) there isn't much support. M$ will just have to buy support. Pay developers to make the games people want. They are exclusive and you win the war. End of Story. -V

Screw japan.

Japan obviously doesn't know anything about games. All they care about is RPG's. They may make some good games, but the gamers their are way too biased. It kills me to see them hate the xbox 360... half of them haven't even played halo 2 to decide if its good or not. And GOW will rape all and Halo 3!!!! Screw you sony, your over priced and your gayer than aids. Microsoft roxx the soxx and will have all the best exclusives because they gots loads of mula and know how to bribe.

Wii!@

Just got my Wii preordered! Man it was a fiasco. I bet it will be more popular than the other two systems. Normal joes like me who don't go to big gaming conventions are the ones who will push the Wii up there. PS3 is for the few elite folks out there who want to pay that much. I'm surprised the Ps3 wasnt more popular at a convention like that, filled with hardcore gamers. Even surrounded by their core audience, Sony fails to deliver the numbers. Looks like doom to me.

Jesus Christ

Its OBVIUS the Japanese have different tastes in games. Do you think the 360 will do great in Japan, where there are only two titles that are of major intrest to them, wheras the Ps3 has MUCH more titles of intrest. In UK / Europe and Australia, Sony has the vast majority of the console market aswell. Why? Because of the PS2's huge, and vaired selection of titles. The 360 + Xbox easily sells the best in the US of A, but even the PS2 is still thumpig the 360 and Xbox. I WILL be buying a PS3, later next year, when Mercs 2 and MGS 4 come out, and i almost bought a 360 - twice, but stopped because there was only a few titles that I really wanted that were exclusive. The rest were multiplat or on PC. If you want a list of PS3 games TBA do some research yourself. Seriously there are plenty out there, instead of praising the 360 look into it. I did with the 360, and I found what I wanted didnt justify buying it.
