Famitsu: Top 20 most anticipated games

Up ahead are the results of last month's (March 23 to 29) Famitsu voting polls for their reader's most wanted video games. Square Enix's Final Fantasy XIII game for the PS3 tops the chart, followed by Dragon Quest IX for the NDS, also a Square title. Coming in fourth is Capcom's Biohazard 5 game (aka Resident Evil 5), with Konami's Metal Gear Solid 4 at fourth - we note this is the only Konami title here.

With this survey posted, we can finally understand where the Enterbrain president bases his recent comments on - the two games he made mention of are right in the upper quarter of this list, with FF XIII's portable kin (Lion War, Revenant Wings) also among the other must-haves in the polls.

Where's the Halo the XBox Fans keeps bragging about???

oh not everybody likes shooters which is what most of the good games in that console are... and USA is not the only place that counts...

so please unless Halo has reached the international stature of FF and MGS... just stop the comparisons and make it seem like that game is bigger than these legendary franchises.

Good to see the PS3 up there on the list. Top 13 is all Sony/Nintendo. Doesn't look like there is any hope for 360 in japan.

hahaha... that might be true but for a reason.

you see i'm an old school gamer, i'm 29 and grew up playing FF... this game is part of my life... but recently XBox fans are dissin the game saying that it should be put to rest and that it's no where near Halo (only because it's a game played on the rival console)... and even saying the same thing to MGS... i'm actually sugarcoating it cause the way they speak of these games it's like it's sh*it compared to Halo...

some people, like me, are then turned off by Halo because of this... proper respect should be given... my message above says "where is Halo with all the bragging that XBox fans keeps on spewing??"... "If it's so big i'd expect it to be in the same international stature as FF and MGS if both games fail to even compare to Halo"... but i never said that it is a sh*itty overrated games... cause I respect Halo for what it has brought to the gaming world.

What surprises me more than that list is how the Wii's so popular over there, yet SMG didnt make the list...

Anyways, I'm glad that the Japs also think that Halo's overrated, I mean...its just aliens and guns....just like gears of war....lost planet..prey....I'm prbly missing more.. but yeah

Hot Shot Golf 5 on there. Great series. Hope to see the demo soon in NA. It's also funny to see a tie for 13th place. I would choose Crisis Core, but I enjoy RPGs to fighting games.

as for "hope" i don't think they're not panicking yet cause inspite of some people already having their consoles for more than a year now this head-to-head battle between between PS3 and XBox360 actually just got started... i mean as i said before my PS3 isn't even 1 month old yet since it was launch here in Australia 23rd of March... so it's too early to doom the PS3...

the AAA titles always helps but people just needs some time to save up but already has their minds set, the sales of XBox here are starting to flatline a little bit cause probably most people who wanted one already has one while the PS3 is still on the rise... we won't know if it could reach XBox's perch but it is interesting to see... other people will settle for any decent games before buying a PS3... i've got four friends who are getting one cause Oblivion is coming out next week... i know they could have played it on XBox or PC but they opted to wait for it on the PS3 cause that's the console of their choice...

Japan is a big market and if PS3 sales hikes up in that region it will be a huge boost... not saying it will beat XBox entirely but it just makes it more interesting...

i dunoo if there is some sort of bias there but why are those ps3 games listed as ps3 only when alot of them are coming to the 360 as well. The fact this wasn't mentioned is testament to how bad the 360 is being marketed in japan. The only thing stopping the 360 from making a dent over in japan is marketing and thats the unbiased truth.

a point there... a better marketing will take the 360 a long way, i'm saying that because of the apparent untapped market in Japan by XBox... But I think the biggest thing stopping it is not marketing but the presence of Nintendo and Sony.

and also some cultures are not big on shooter games... so more variety in elite games could help XBox...

as that guy weezar mentioned from a post above... Halo, Gears Of War, Crackdown, Prey... and others...

Having been to japan a few years back, i can tell why games like Halo get so little attention over there. The Japanese embrace cuter, cuddlier games. Violence isn't as much a big seller in Japan as is in America, that's not to say there's not a market for it over there but it's just no where near as big as the American one. Even games like the famous Biohazard (Resident Evil) don't see as much impact as one would think. While i'm no Halo fan i will not discredit the game but i will say that if you compare it to Final Fantasy in Japan you're liable to be laughed at.

some people don't think that there is much depth in shooter games...

don't get me wrong i think shooters are ok... i'm redoing the mission again of Resistance in hard mode right now...

but if you read up on some comments and some articles some people do think that shooters doesn't have that much of a depth and some even say that it is one of the easiest genre to design a game around... even detailing that it doesn't really need a lot of imagination to conceptualize and variation in styles is not that important.

but it's a case to case thing... i mean i'm a sucker for NBA games... i get them all... they may all look the same to other people but to me it doesn't matter.

This list is from Japan, the only region the PS3 is not last place in sales.

PS3 will do OK in Japan, everywhere else however, will be a very difficult battle.

to disappoint:

MGs 2/3(you can get these on xbox as well) -10.6mil

Halo 1/2- 13 mil.

So you are wrong about halo not being in their ranks. Infact, halo 2 has outsold every metal gear game individually on the playstation in just over two years AND with lessthan 25%of playstations user base (owned?)

Second, this list forgets to mention that RE5 and DMC 4 are coming out for 360. Rest of the games are more jp centric so I cant really comment.

so that means in my opinion Final Fantasy XIII, Metal Gear 4, Super Smash brothers, Final Fantasy VII, Resident Evil 5, Ratchet and Clank, Metroid, Heavenly Sword and Grand Theft Auto 4 are all better then that Generic First Person Shooter called Halo where the enemies either run from your toy looking hero for no reason or are nothing but running globlets.

sigh.. how did that game ever get popular?

the people at eb games dont know a thing about games i ask for FFX2 and i get FF12 not like im complaining or anything they just lost $30 lol. i was gonna get FF12 anyway but i guess i got cheap :)
