Notice how they didn't ask, "Are you going to buy a PS3?". And since so many said the price is high (didn't say the price is too high tho), I wonder how it'll do. If it fails in Japan, Sony is finished.

also, the number of people polled was not listed. considering that most polls only, well, poll about a 1,000 people or so, the list is highly inconclusive, especially when taking into account that Japan has an incredibly large population (a little over 127 million to be precise), and the majority of them are gamers, from men, women, children, and grandmas and grandpas.
also, Japan will always support their homegrown consoles. once again Sony and Nintendo will be dominant in Japan, though it is surprising that Halo 3 made the list. Small victory for Microsoft, but they still have a long way to go before the war is won.

As far as my guess on the consoles-- I think that the PS3 will be just as dominant this time. The PS3 might actually be less powerful and is far from the beast that the raw numbers present. Sony really presented it well but when you look at actual gameplay, the first gen games look like crap. The controller is a good idea. Overall the hardware is really evenly matched in my eyes, and yet there will be tons of people buying a Ps3. I guess we'll have to see how the console wars go when they are going head to head.
And I guess to set this up-- I'm not a fanboy of any console. I had an NES then and SNES. In the first 3D generation I had both a PS1 and an N64. During the last gen, I had a PS2 and bought a gamecube a few months ago used at a pawn shop for 65 bucks. My 360 is my first M$ console.

looking to check how innovative this new control is. If these numbers
represents something PS3 will sell a lot in Japan but probably Wii will out sell it. Two scenaries are possible after lauch depending on manufacturing capabilities:
1)Wii new-controler prove to be awesome and DS vs PSP happens again but this time is Wii vs PS3, but even in this case PS3 will outsell x360 by much, introducing BR technology in homes .
2)Wii new-controler is not so awesome and PS3 in the long run can retake all lost market (with a proper price drop), because is much more powerful than Wii and have BR builtin and HighDef and all that pretty cool techno things that are becoming standars.

That's why they're called japanese. Not australian, german and certainly, not americanos. They have there own interests. They do not ask what do you like, but what they like.
...but I guess you're right. They must be retarded.
P.S. bgss, check your list on exclusives for Sony, Nintendo and MS....

I think that finally the japanese are starting to open their eyes!!! About time!!!
Im glad to see a X360 game in the top 10. Honestly, I think X360 stole the show with so many AAA games coming out!
If Sony doesnt success in Japan, they are TOTALLY DOOMED!!! Every where they are speaking about Wii60 wich totally makes sense !!!

Resistence looked awesome, and was hella fun to play.
Untold Legends looked good, but wasn't spectacular. It was a step up from the PS2 and X Box visually though. The gameplay was typical hack n slash.
Warhawk, being about 40% complete (like most of the games playable at E3 for the PS3) looked really good, especially the water effects. The game also controlled way better than i expected with the motion tilt control. The game was also fun to play.
Heavenly Sword was incredible looking. It truly looked and felt like a next gen game. I don't know if all you've seen are grainy videos, but seeing it in all it's glory in person is a totally different matter. The game kicks ass, actually, and not just in the visual department. It plays like God of War, but with a female lead. It was the best game I played on the PS3.
Sonic the Hedgehog was nicelooking, and looked exactly like it's 360 counterpart(whi ch i also played, just for comparison). The game was also nice and fast, but the problem I had was with the camera. Sonic just moves to fast, and the camera often has to swing around to catch up, which can lead to Sonic plummeting to it's doom. Also, this was the game that tended to crash, but PS3 bashers wanted to brand the system as crap, just because this one particular game crashed the system. I have emulators on my PSP that will crash it if the code get's jumbled. Working in the games industry, I have learned that it's not always the hardware that causes those sorts of things. Sometimes it's just the code of the game.
anyway, the PS3 won't show it's technical superiority until it's second year, as it's been stated that the peak performance of the system is far higher than the 360s, but ultimately, it just boils down to how the developers use it. I mean, look at the "underpowered," PS2. games like Metal Gear Solid 3 and Okami push the system beyond it's limits to incredible results. all 3 next gen systems have their pros and cons, and i'm going to own them all.

Sure, PS3 games look even with 360 games. And sure, that seems worrisome if you think "what'll future PS3 ga mes look like in comparison?". Problem is: Xbox 360 games are ALSO barely using the hardware. Developers are just getting used to the idea of using the multiple cores, and a few devs have admitted they're only capable of fully utilizing one right now. For the foreseeable future, the 360 has enough untapped power to continue to look as good (if not better than?) the PS3, especially since developers have a headstart on cracking the box. This could all change in the future, sure, but maybe only after it's done major damage to Sony when the average consumer looks at two boxes and sees no visual difference costing $200.
On the polls:
This poll alone isn't that worrisome. Yes, the sample size is small, etc. Problem is: There are probably a half-dozen polls like this out now, and they all show roughly the same thing- Sony's in huge trouble compared to last gen, and at least 80% of the polled audience dislike the price. When you start adding it up, it stops being coincidence.
On Japan:
Yes, Japan is only (small)% of the world market... to Microsoft, which is enjoying its success everywhere else in the world, and financially really doesn't even need to consider Japan on the larger scale. Nintendo and Sony however have strong ties to their home nation, and failing there would still be a huge morale buster for those companies. Think also about developers- if Sony fails in Japan, and their Japanese exclusives start to find new homes, then the system truly IS doomed.

The alpha kit to the ps3 with games that are for the most part between 30 to 50 % done look comparable to the 360. Considering that the PS3 is difficult to program for and lack proper support that says alot. Programming for the 360 is very similar to programing for the PC and already devs like epic are already using some of the other cores. The PS3 is going to sell the first year... very well so the question is will you see a differance between 360 games and PS3 games? It is my firm belief that yes you will. As far as a $200 difference that is all a matter of perspective. What if PS3 ends up with exclusives that are more your taste? or the Wii? or the 360?
on the polls:
yep. they seem to say the same thing in japan. Wii leaping out in front with the PS3 lagging behind... but who knows... maybe games will come out for the PS3 that the will win back the japanese market. If you use this poll to represent all of japan 21% out of 128 million people aint that bad.
on Japan
If you look at the top selling games of all time... or even the top selling games for most systems ( except the xbox)
you will find that the majority of the list are from japanese devs.ask people what titles they would want to see on the PS3 to make them spend the extra $200 chances are they will be japanese as well. The sad truth is.... the japanese devs normally don't make games with american tastes in mind. They make thier games with more of japanese sensibility in mind and they happen to pick up in the states. If a console fails in japan chances are some of the most unique and engrosing titles will stick to what ever platform/platforms are popular in japan. Exporting and localizing games are a huge risk for Jap devs and most do not even try it unless they are sure it will be a hit. I.E. established core audience. Yes, Japan is only (small)% of the world market... to Microsoft, which is enjoying its success everywhere else in the world, and financially really doesn't even need to consider Japan on the larger scale. That was thier frame of mind last generation as well. Why are they reaching out to more jap and korean devs this time around?

Also, am I the only one who doesn't think the X360 and PS3 graphics are that similiar? I see a lot of noticeable differences between the two. It might not be as big between them and the Wii, but it is still noticeable.
One last thing, if Sony fails in Japan(they won't), they will fail completely in all countries, because the only thing wrong with the PS3 is the price. If the rabid Japanese gamers do not buy the PS3 because of its price, no one will.
