EB Games/ GameStop - Image 1Not seeing much EB Games stores lately? That would be because it appears as though the merge of EB Games and GameStop sealed in 2005 is finally closing up all loose ties for good. Gaming Target reports that in Rochester, NY, two more branches of EB Games have been renamed to GameStop as of last week.

Although the merge happened two years back, both companies still retained their individual identities - until today, that is. Since GameStop acquired EB Games, the latter has been slowly assimilated into the GameStop profile, and today, it seems that the makeover is drawing its completion. Official announcements on the matter have yet to be given by the companies involved, but you yourself can check that EB Games stores have been silently "disappearing" from neighborhoods, and are instead replaced with GameStop stores.

But while EB Games will be sorely missed, we can only wish for good things to come out of this change. We'll be sure to keep you posted on more updates.

» Interesting...

So my local mall still has a Babbage's upstairs, and an EB almost directly below it. It's been that way for years. Hell, employees from one store sometimes end up working the counter at the other, joking that they got lost and were somehow taken in. Having two stores makes for a funny atmosphere, but they both sell GameStop branded items. Aside from the fact that both stores do good business, I'm really not sure what the benefit is in keeping two (at least from a business standpoint). Personally, I love it, but maybe they'll move all the employees into a double-sized unit and call it GameStop.

since the merger any EB Games was a gamestop. they were employed by gamestop, had to follow gamestop rules, and everything. the ONLY part of it that was still EB was the name.

And the only thing that really changed was them not taking PC tradeins anymore.

» Eh

I still always preferred EB, and I'll miss 'em. All our locals turned a few months ago...

» I never saw a gamespot! :S

All my EBgames are still EBgames, I never saw a gamestop of my entire life... More? Now there is an ebgames.ca site (for canada) but there is NO gamestop.ca site :S (and the canadian website just popped this month). Anyway, maybe that in Canada they don't wanna change the name too fast since gamestop didn't have any retail store in canada (I think).

Anyway, I wish my EBgames would change it's name to gamestop, I think they are making this change LOOONG and useless (since it'll be the same anyway). They should just redirect the ebgames site to gamestop site and change every banner/name/etc right now, it would cost a lot of money, but after that, everything would be done right? it would take less time for us to accomodate :S

I mean, when I'm on the gamestop website, I click on "find the nearest store" and with my postal code, with give me "EBgames stores" :S lol it's just wierd, even wierder if you don't know that ebgames was bought by gamestop, lol.

» The same in Canada?

Cause Eb games is still ebgames... and well, I haven't heard of a name change from the owner which I know - and there's a 90% chance I would have heard.... so it just makes me wonder - is eb games in Canada a different branch or is it just a little slower on the name conversion.

Personally I felt that eb was better before the gamestop take over... better products and deals imo.

» Happened here as well

Also, that same thing hit where I lived as well. Both in Everett Mall (of Everett, WA) & Alderwood Mall (of Lynnwood, WA). Which Alderwood Mall has 2 GameStop stores. 3 If you count the neighboring Town Square across from the mall, next to the Mexican restaurant lol.

Or, I should say 1 store within the vacinity of the mall (across the street), and two in the mall.
