Dylan Cuthbert: Cheap gamers disappoint me |

Heads up, cheap gamers. Dylan Cuthbert doesn't like you. Well, not all of you, just the ones who are unwilling to spend even US$ 10 on a game.
Q-Games founder and Pixeljunk creator Cuthbert was asked in a recent Develop interview about what disappoints him most in the video game industry. This was his answer:
Gamers complaining about our games being too expensive at 10 dollars. I’m not sure this is an industry problem, but it seems ridiculous that people complain about that price point.
Disappointments -- and piracy -- aside, Cuthbert doesn't seem to have lost his drive to make games. In the same interview, he mentioned that Q-Games is "always working on secret stuff" and that "more PixelJunk is definitely in the pipeline."

Damn he must really hate that site cheapassgamers. People use all kinds of surveys and referral programs with eachother to get consoles and games completely for free.
And then there's the whole fact that the only profit from used games goes to the gamestore.
This guys just blowing steam. Cheap gaming is nothing new, not because of piracy or anything else. But I agree with Torch. Pixeljunk is shit compared to what $10 elsewhere can get you.

You also can't compare a $10 download game to a $60 disc based game! You could take ALL of the Pixel Junk games and put them in one bundle and it wouldn't compare to that of a $60 hit game.
The sweet spot for small download games is $5-$7 and anything above that is required to blow me the f*** away.

this can be said about a lot of other psn titles, but this cant be the case for them all...
PJ shooter *this is the only PJ game i got into*: Limited playability (atleast single side), you should get most of the trophies in 1 full cycle, only 15 stages which is only about 4 hours of playability *better than most psn games though* home rewards *many like myself have a glitch problem with them* waiting for game DLC since the game ends with a TBC... price 10 usd
japan psn store
Spelunker black: 100 floors in single player (they get new aspects if you do another cycle), 100 similar floors in online/offline co op (minor differences to huge differences), has a plat trophy and average time to get it is 22+ hours. Is a port but features a lot of things like updated/classic graphics, and spelunker is not a game we see being remade to death *like sonic*, 200 mural pieces to collect to see a odd image. Home rewards, and a theme. Price 15.00 - 17.00 *depends on how you convert the yen*
when you look at 1 thing or another its not a big deal just... you can always find a better deal which PJ is fun but not worth 10usd when they got full out plans for DLC since after that its gonna cost what Spelunker black does which it doesnt meet in content

Still when you can get games like Lumines or Super Stardust for $10 that are so complete and engaging, it makes you think that arcade type games should be $5 max.

I can go to a swap meet or a pawn shop and use that same 10 bucks and get 10 retro games that I could definitely get more enjoyment out of than PixelJunk.
So really it is up to you whether or not you spend $10 on a bucket of shit.

If a game provides a fun and lasting experience then is it not worth $10?

Also fat princess is a steal at $15, I would pay $25 for it....also Wipeout.
Just depends how big the game is and how much playtime you get out of it....I havn't played any Pixeljunk games so I can't say if they are worth it.
Remember if you are super cheap and have a PS3 you can split the price of games with a good buddy or two and then share the game amongst each other.

Bottom line: As the industry gets bigger, competition goes way up! So, with lots of other options some of the rinky dink "also rans" like PixelJunk are going to get weeded out. Pretty soon Dylan Cuthbert will have to scrape for a $10 game and maybe he'll be more sypathetic! LOL.

I can't get a job, I'm only 15, and legally can't get one.
My parents, yeah, I am allowed to blame them, they are both dead-beat alcoholics who refuse to go back to college, or do an online one or anything at all, because tehy are too damn lazy. Have a little consideration before making dick-hole comments like that.

I'm 15, my parents DON'T feed me, OR my sister, I'll be in a foster home in a few days.

With an attitude like that I would be thankful if your parents fed you, let alone bought you video games. STFU and get out into the real world.

it IS your fault you dead beat little punk. If you want something you work for it you don't wait for others to get it for you. As for you putting your parents down , consider yourself lucky that they put a roof over your head and food in your stomach first, instead of some stupid games in your hands.

How do you think I got my PSP in the first place?
Every chance I get I find some petty way to get some cash, and get something in my stomache. Anything left over I save up.
If you honestly think I'm spoiled then you don't know how my life is.I HAVE NO MONEY, My parents dont either, they don't care about me or my sister. Everything I have, I got on my own, maybe a little help from my sister, that is it. Stop being such a douche bag and look at things from a different angle for once in your miserable life.

Answer: " I have spent my time trading in games and systems I've gotten from friends and stuff" you waited for someone to GIVE you stuff.
"you don't know how my life is":
Answer: it's obvious that you have the internet and a computer as well as heat and electricty. So you do have a roof Over your head and most likely food.
i do see it from your angle ... you think you are are owed any thing your little heart desires.(NOT!!!)
So grow up.

Heck, I personally tend to not buy a game unless it goes on sale on Steam for 50% off or less. I can't afford to throw a bunch of money into 5-10 $60 games a year. That's way too much money that I will never have.

This crap about finding another hobby? That's retarded. Video games are made for all sorts of people to enjoy, no matter if they're $1, $5, $10, or $60.

Anyway i would buy games for $10, it has a feeling of genuinity =]

Of course, I hate downloadable games and I only buy them or dlc if I really REALLY want them... like can't stand to live without them (I'm exaggerating, of course, but a game or dlc has to be exceptional before I'll buy a drm'd out digital copy).

no way thats why i have a pc for gaming becasue you can get better games for the same price as the games from psn store
for example you can get assasins creed 1 on pc for £9
why would i pay that for a game that is a lot shorter and hasnt been as well made
dont get me wrong im quite happy to pay upto £30-40 on a game
but not on one that will last 3-7 hours
if they brought out a game that took 500-1000 hours to complete storyline id quite happily pay £100+ for it (as long as it looks good)

And $10 for a game is NOT much money. I spent $10.40 on a coke and a kebab the other day, for the effort that goes into making a game you're getting pretty damn good value.

I bought InviZimals but I got disappointed, I was expecting something different.

It's fun, but I started playing Super Metroid on my PSP and some kid asked me how I was playing SNES on there, my manager got mad at me since I'm not supposed to talk about that crap to customers while on-duty.
Recently bought Silent Hiill 3, FFX, and Me &My Katamari.
Waiting for Silent Hill Shattered Memories to come out for PSP/PS2 so I can get it since I don't have a Wii.
In any case, I can see how not buying a game when a perfectly good flash port can be found online, but at the same time, if you want that developer to do well you gotta support them by buying games.
Look at Ubisoft,,, Didn't they just lay off a ton of people cause they couldn't afford to pay them all? Sad really, if more people bought their games then they'd do better with stuff like that...
But I can't forget the quality of the game itself. If the game in question is complete shit, of course nobody will buy it, more pirates are going to just ISO it to see how it is, then dump it off cause of how crappy it is.
Now I don't mind ISO's, what does bug me is how people don't have the common decency to at least buy the game if they like it. (Like what I did with Monster Hunter Freedom way back in the day.) Instead, if they like it, they keep the ISO/CSO and never purchase the game in real life.
If you like something support it!

If you liked the game, go buy it.
It's sad seeing that people only pirate games and not buy them.

Jeez... these a-holes really feel like they're entitled to your $$$.
When I saw the headline on my RSS reader, I thought "I bet this is probably that PixelJunk a**wipe complaining about his company failing again". And sho nuff...
Bottom Line: Boycott PixelJunk. The market is already glutted enough with retarded "casual" games, anyway, such that there's absolutely no reason to give your hard earned money to a giant douche.
