Dunaway: no new Wii colors or slimmer DS from Nintendo, for now

Nintendo Wii multicolored - Image 1Those who are still hanging on to the thin shred of hope for a new DS redesign or new Wii colors can let go...for now, at least. In an interview with IGN, Nintendo of America's Executive Vice President for sales and marketing Cammie Dunaway has stated that external changes to their consoles are not on their plate of priorities at the moment. Check out her statements in the interview:

When asked about new Wii colors:

Certainly don't have any announcements to make about different colors. We continue to sell out of Wii pretty much as fast as we put it on the shelf...when you've got something that's still selling out about as fast as we can put it into the market, we're not thinking about further colors at this point.

...and about the DS redesign:

What we're focused on right now for DS is just getting it into the hands of more people. Again, when a piece of hardware that's been out as long as DS has been out is able to still grow in the double digits, it just suggests that there's still a lot of untapped market demand.

For those who didn't read through the quoted statements above because of their length, let us make it simple for you: Nintendo isn't planning on putting out new colors for the Wii or a newly-designed DS because, simply put, they're selling well enough as they already are.

Since we're currently looking at two market bestsellers, it may be best if we forget about waiting for that lime-green Wii or a paper-thin DS, because people still keep on snapping them Ninty consoles up.

Different colors won't make the games better.

ninty should use the other half of their brain and instead of trying to revive a product with color when sales go down, they should produce some thousands more -- in color -- so people would buy them all over again. when/if it's dying it's a bit useless to try to make money off it, cos the general interest simply isn't there anymore.

» having better graphics....

won't usually make the game better either. Wii need more mature games as well and that's a fact. But having more customization won't hurt either.

That's too bad :( I'm in dire need for a new NDSL and I was hoping I could hold off until something "different" came about.

Oh well....

Mine is all black anyway. So it blends in nicely with the TV it sits beside. Cost $20 bucks for the new case, and about 20 minutes of my time to do. You can also get pink, red, blue, shiny colors and just about any other color. They make controller shells as well, so they can all match.

I'm in dire need of some non-kiddie DS games that do not suck. I really regret getting the DS. Anyone know if Nintendo will ever make a mature DS game?

The last game I bought was Metroid when it came out. I played through the first level then totally lost interest. I tried online play once and it was horrible.

Don't worry iso-brainwash, I'm sure once DS sales are down, you may get another new color!

» WTF!?!?!?!?!

I don't want another color you idiot. Who said anything about color?

More ASSumptions on your part. That's all you ever do...

by Mister Common Sense - 2008-07-31 09:02
» Exactly

You don't want another color, so Nintendo will probably release even more DS colors.

There would be no point in a new DS. To make it smaller, the GBA compatibility would have to go. The firmware can't be changed. A bigger screen would still have the same resolution. The DS lite is as good as it can get. They just need some mature games and improved online.

"There would be no point in a new DS."

Wrong again ass-wipe.

I could think of many ways to make the DS better. In fact, many people have post such WANT lists.

"To make it smaller, the GBA compatibility would have to go."

And? Sounds good to me!!! It's time to kill that off. Move to a DS only unit.

"The firmware can't be changed"

Sure it can. Here you are talking out your rear end again. As long as the FW is 100 percent DS compatible they can make the additions they want to it!

"The DS lite is as good as it can get"

WRONG!!!!!!!! As usual you have NO CLUE as to what you are talking about. You are as ignorant as can be.

Since the release of the NDSL CHEAPER, BRIGHTER and more ENERGY EFFICIENT screens have been developed.

I would pay twice as much for an NDSL with OLED screens. But of course that will never happen.

Either way, there is plenty they can do to make it better. Your small pathetic brain just can't comprehend such things.

Either way, the FACT REMAINS that you ASSumed something just like you always do. Then in your next post you try to worm your way around it. You FAIL...TWICE.
