DS One-Ups PSP Down Under

Interestingly enough, the country which hates Nintendo for the most part is buying more DSes than PSPs. Although the Australian handheld market isn't as large as the Japanese market, or even the American one, it's still a significant win for Nintendo. The DS has sold 227,369 units since its launch while the PSP has sold 161,623 units. The GBA is still selling strongly with 145,345 units sold since the launch of the Nintendo DS. Although the PSP saw awesome sales at launch, the DS has outsold it in 31 of the 40 weeks since then. The reason? "Consistent successes driven by the likes of Nintendogs, Mario Kart DS, and soon to be Brain Training." according to Nintendo. This has been the first time official numbers have been released for these two systems in Australia.

It looks like Nintendo still owns the portable market. The PSP was the greatest threat since the GameGear. The PSP didn't die though, it just didn't prosper, it is like the plant in your garden that wont grow, but it isn't dead so you don't pull it out. Idk...maybe I'm tired.

This is great to see Oz charts for once, especially since they are great indicators af actual sales. The reason for this is because Australia has one of the strictest competition guidlines in the world. There would be no possible way for Sony to get away with reporting "shipped" units.

To tell you the truth, this suprised me. I expected to see the PSP out on top here down under, but by the looks of it, Nintendo is still top dog in the handheld world.

Go Nintendo!

Lots of my non-gamer friends (or at least...less gamer friends) are getting DS Lites... (Australians)

I always thought all that 'targeting a different audience' bull***** would never works... =S
