DS LiteNintendo just announced that their latest handheld has reached the 5 million mark in sales, and it's still growing. In the first ten days after its June 23rd launch - and this is just in Europe alone - it sold over 200,000 units already. Nintendo claims they now own the handheld market in Europe because of this achievement.

"Nintendo DS has introduced thousands of new people to gaming and will continue to expand the gaming population due to its ability to appeal to both gamers and non-gamers. During Nintendo DS Lite launch weekend, retailers across Europe said that they had never seen such a vast array of different people buying the product, everyone from business men to young women to grandfathers!" said Laurent Fischer, Nintendo of Europe Marketing Director.

They also add that total sales of Nintendogs software has topped 3 million sales in Europe, and Animal Crossing: Wild World sold 600.000 times. There are also over 250,000 people across Europe now training their brains with Dr. KawashimaÂ’s Brain Training.

# Kiddy games rock the houseGuest 2006-07-11 05:04
The games you call "kiddy" are much more fun then mature games. The kiddy games sells prove that people love them more than any other type of game. I hope they take over mature games Because kiddy games take more skill there more fun to play and just much better games then mature games. Mature games arnt realy games most of the time there just there to create false hype for a crappy game by showing blood and graphics so the the developers can make more money Even tho the game sucked. Another thing is mature games take barly challange to play and there way less fun then kiddy games. Hmm check this out most games for psp are mature games right?. Well every one should agree with me that psps libary is horrible compared to ds's awsome libary of games. Y is this you ask?. Its Simple people Know that the majority of Kiddy games pwned mature games because kiddy games are much better games then mature games ^_^.

# Kiddie games don't ruleGuest 2006-07-11 05:22
Nintendo is good at making games. They made some good games for the DS. That doesn't mean kiddie games are good, it just means Nintendo makes some good kiddie (simple with a fairytale storyline) games.

The PSP library is not horrible. It's just not stellar (DS is better but not by much). The DS has a lot of crap as well. If the PSP would get more original titles instead of developers trying to cram in mediocre PS2 games into the PSP for a quick buck then it would easily surpass the DS. The good part of the PSP is amount of games. The PSP has a huge library already, due to companies ability to port to the machine.

Give it a year and the PSP will become the best handheld for gaming. DS might still outsell it in Japan though simply because those brain games get so much attention there.

Sure Sure, before the launch of these 2 systems U and most of teh sony fanboys were claiming how psp was gonna trash ds saleswise, close to 2 years later and your hopes were dashed, now u resort to the "we will get them in a year time, just u wait" phrases. Just liek every nintendo hater kept on saying nintendo was gonna die soon ( like since 96), aint happenign either.

# The PSP will always trail...Guest 2006-07-11 07:04
... because it's more expensive. And I would also dispute whether more original titles would make much difference to the PSP's library. The touch screen and microphone on the DS have led to some very original and unique games.

Even if the PSP gets more original games it's not going to be anything a console couldn't do. The DS provides a unique gaming experience and that's where the PSP cannot compete.

And I'll say it again: it amuses me how PSP owners dismiss Nintendo games as "kiddie" and then piss themselves whenever a new SNES, N64 or GBA emulator is released... Face it you all love Mario, you just hate to admit that when you've bought the PSP.

# Psp is good for Nintendo games i gess..Guest 2006-07-11 11:55
Ounce the psp gos out of buisness and people are able to get one used for like 50$. I think i may pick one up just for the flawless Super nintendo emlation. But by that time snezzieDs thats being developed at pocket heaven may already have flawless snes emulation no joke. they got chrono trigger and secret of mana to boot and run at full speed already its still unplayable tho. But there expected to be fully playable and fully suported in a later versions

Third parties are jumping to the DS because of it's sells. There are so many good DS games on the way... Even Microsoft! They let AOE come out on the DS and MechWarrior is next.

kiddie or not, the ds hardware and software sales are rocking the psp, theres nothing i love more than when people say "oh if psp had a touch screen it'd be way better" well fact is guys, the psp doesn't, and the ds does, and graphics wise, its maybe a bit better than the n64, but fun-wise, its got way more entertaining games than the psp

# Nintendo DS rocks, and I tell you why...Guest 2006-07-12 01:49
First of all, Nintendo of all gaming name-brands rule. Gaming wouldnt be where it is today if it weren't for Nintendo.

Second, Nintendo didn't build their system with the ability to run homebrew programs, which Sony did do. Which paved the way to EASY gaming emulation.

Third, Nintendo knows what they are doing. Nintendo DS may not be the most powerful handheld system, but they paved the way for handheld in the first place. Everyone remembers the Sega GameGear, it was ahead of its time, but Nintendo's Gameboy prevailed because it was $100 cheaper.

Nintendo knows what it is doing, and anyone that deny's this, is in serious denial of anything gaming. Nintendo will rule the gaming community once again! You watch and see...

I own almost every gaming console out there, including, Gamecube, Xbox and PS2, Nintendo DS, PSP, NES, SNES, VirtuaBoy, Playstation, and all the gameboys from B&W to the Gameboy Advance. So don't call me a fanboy, because I support everything gaming. This is just my input on the subject, Nintendo rules!

# Open minded opinionGuest 2006-07-12 12:11
I wouldn't say that DS's main focus is 'kiddy games'. There are some Teen and Mature titles out there like Lost in Blue (most addictive game I've EVER played), Another Code (Trace Memory in america), Trauma: Under the Knife, Resident Evil Deadly Silence, Goldeneye Rogue Agent, Where Do Babies Come From? (Feel the Magic XY/XX in america), I Would Die for You (The Rub Rabbits in america) and more.

I love my DS like crazy, however, like #13, I'm a gamer period. Sure, I'm a Nintendo fanboy, but I own a PS2, Dreamcast and PSP as well as my Nintendo systems. I have to say right now, the system I'm enjoying most and using EVERY day is the PSP.

PSP has some ok games. But for me, it REALLY appeals to my love for anime. I LOVE putting my anime and movies on my PSP's memory card for free and watching them anywhere, anytime. I also love homebrew and currently am playing the snot out of PSP Revolution. Not to mention I use it as my MP3 player and to view my JPEGs.

I think the DS is a better GAMING machine, but that the PSP is a better ENTERTAINMENT machine. For people who aren't into anime and stuff, you won't get your money's worth with the PSP. For people like me, it's worth every penny.

I play my DS for the games alone and can't wait for Baten Kaitos DS, FFIII and Star Fox DS. PSP is for everything else mainly and official games second.
