Nintendo just announced that their latest handheld has reached the 5 million mark in sales, and it's still growing. In the first ten days after its June 23rd launch - and this is just in Europe alone - it sold over 200,000 units already. Nintendo claims they now own the handheld market in Europe because of this achievement.
"Nintendo DS has introduced thousands of new people to gaming and will continue to expand the gaming population due to its ability to appeal to both gamers and non-gamers. During Nintendo DS Lite launch weekend, retailers across Europe said that they had never seen such a vast array of different people buying the product, everyone from business men to young women to grandfathers!" said Laurent Fischer, Nintendo of Europe Marketing Director.
They also add that total sales of Nintendogs software has topped 3 million sales in Europe, and Animal Crossing: Wild World sold 600.000 times. There are also over 250,000 people across Europe now training their brains with Dr. KawashimaÂ’s Brain Training.

The PSP library is not horrible. It's just not stellar (DS is better but not by much). The DS has a lot of crap as well. If the PSP would get more original titles instead of developers trying to cram in mediocre PS2 games into the PSP for a quick buck then it would easily surpass the DS. The good part of the PSP is amount of games. The PSP has a huge library already, due to companies ability to port to the machine.
Give it a year and the PSP will become the best handheld for gaming. DS might still outsell it in Japan though simply because those brain games get so much attention there.

Even if the PSP gets more original games it's not going to be anything a console couldn't do. The DS provides a unique gaming experience and that's where the PSP cannot compete.
And I'll say it again: it amuses me how PSP owners dismiss Nintendo games as "kiddie" and then piss themselves whenever a new SNES, N64 or GBA emulator is released... Face it you all love Mario, you just hate to admit that when you've bought the PSP.

I dont care if its kiddy or not, as long as they are for you to enjoy.

Second, Nintendo didn't build their system with the ability to run homebrew programs, which Sony did do. Which paved the way to EASY gaming emulation.
Third, Nintendo knows what they are doing. Nintendo DS may not be the most powerful handheld system, but they paved the way for handheld in the first place. Everyone remembers the Sega GameGear, it was ahead of its time, but Nintendo's Gameboy prevailed because it was $100 cheaper.
Nintendo knows what it is doing, and anyone that deny's this, is in serious denial of anything gaming. Nintendo will rule the gaming community once again! You watch and see...
I own almost every gaming console out there, including, Gamecube, Xbox and PS2, Nintendo DS, PSP, NES, SNES, VirtuaBoy, Playstation, and all the gameboys from B&W to the Gameboy Advance. So don't call me a fanboy, because I support everything gaming. This is just my input on the subject, Nintendo rules!

I love my DS like crazy, however, like #13, I'm a gamer period. Sure, I'm a Nintendo fanboy, but I own a PS2, Dreamcast and PSP as well as my Nintendo systems. I have to say right now, the system I'm enjoying most and using EVERY day is the PSP.
PSP has some ok games. But for me, it REALLY appeals to my love for anime. I LOVE putting my anime and movies on my PSP's memory card for free and watching them anywhere, anytime. I also love homebrew and currently am playing the snot out of PSP Revolution. Not to mention I use it as my MP3 player and to view my JPEGs.
I think the DS is a better GAMING machine, but that the PSP is a better ENTERTAINMENT machine. For people who aren't into anime and stuff, you won't get your money's worth with the PSP. For people like me, it's worth every penny.
I play my DS for the games alone and can't wait for Baten Kaitos DS, FFIII and Star Fox DS. PSP is for everything else mainly and official games second.
