KhetDS v1.02 - Image 1robamacaf shares with us his DS homebrew game, KhetDS v1.02, a game that combines lasers with classic strategy. It's essentially like an Egyptian version of chess-ish game, having pieces to move around on the board.

There are four types of pieces: pharaoh, obelisk, pyramid and djed column. Players then must alternate turns moving the pieces with two, one or no mirrored surfaces. All types of pieces can move on square forward, back, left, right, or diagonal. Either that or they can stay in the same square and rotate by a quarter twist.

At the end of each turn, lasers built into the board will be fired, which will then bounce from mirror to mirror. When the beam strikes a non-mirrored surface on any piece, that piece is then disqualified from the game. Your objective, therefore, is to strike the beam at your opponent's pharaoh, while shielding yours.

Do take note of this, though: the red lasers shoot out the top left, from the circle, while the gray one comes from the bottom right. The red pieces can't go on the gray squares, and vice versa.

For now, this release can only accommodate two players, but the dev says he would want to soon add Wifi and computer AI, as well as different configurations to play with.

Here's the changelog for KhetDS v1.02. We've also thrown in the changelog for v1.0.1 here for good measure.

Changelog (v1.02):

Added in the 3 basic layouts. These are the ones that are in the rules. The way it works is:
  • Classic: Use this setup if this is your first time to play Khet. Good for learning the game
  • Imhotep: A variation on CLASSIC that opens up new defensive possibilities.
  • Dynasty: A setup with an immediate balance of offense and defense that develops quickly.

v1.0.1
  • Added the ability to deselect an item, to do this just click any where off the game board
  • Added a highlight so you can see which piece you have selected
  • Added a version number on the Rules screen so you can see what version you have.
  • (Updated link)
