David Cole: Xbox 360 likely to lose in Europe, region to switch to Nintendo platforms

David Cole, along with other game industry analysts, has been studying industry trends for some time now. He and DFC Intelligence have noted two things about 2007: one, online PC games have remained strong; two, Nintendo has succeeded on a global basis.

The latter point is essentially important, as Cole predicts that Microsoft's Xbox 360 will lose as the previously Sony-dominated European market will switch loyalties to Nintendo. In fact, Cole pointed out that Phil Harrison's departure from Sony was "symbolic of how the torch in Europe seems to be passing to Nintendo."

Should that indeed be the case, it will be the first time that Nintendo will take the lead in North America, Japan, and Europe at the same time. Cole notes, however, that the European market will not be a market dominated by one and only one system. Instead, he forecasts that European households will be reaping the benefits of owning more than one console at a time.

It is only idiotic to think that the PS3 would sell over a 100 million in this short timeframe, by using this as an example of their false predictions you are just showcasing yourself as an idiot.

The PS3 might, eventually sell over 100 million units, although the chance is slim. But heck, the Psx and the PS2 managed to reach the 100 million mark, so maybe even the PS3 will crawl past this mark, some day... in the far future

PS3 might just pass the 100 million mark. Don't forget that under ten percent of the market is using HDTV's. Once that starts going up, paired with third party games and first party suport, PS3 might get there simply because of the blu-ray player. I wont make that my prediction, I'm just saying you never know.

As for what this guy said....what a *****ing goof. We needed a *****ing analyst to tell us that Nintendo would take over the 360's ground in Europe? I think its pretty much understood that the only reason 360 was doing that great everywhere was becuase of no competition. I think the simple fact that it took Nintendo and Sony this long to dethrone Microsoft in Europe is sad...but North America will fall as well.

Not only that. Xbox was never strong in Europe and will never be. Deny it or not, the only region where Xbox 360 is successful is America, while the Wii rocks everywhere. PS3 is slowly gaining on market, and by time the Xbox 360 will completely disappear in Europe and Japan.

The PS3 also begins to be successful in America, so at the end there's nothing left anymore for Microsoft.

this is a big hit to me being a very strong ps3 supporter but i have to say the wii is the better console BUT i think this is not because it is good.

i belive nintendo have hit the jackpot with there iteractive game. hell there not the best looking games in the world but they have something that the ps3 and the 360 cant offer ( the ps3 can a bit). this is why it is a next gen console graphics are not just the next gen thing.

i would though buy a ps3 over any of the next gen console due to the fact that it will be a powerful console in the next 5 - 10 years something that the wii and 360 cant do.

personaly i found this hard to admit but yes wii will be the best for the nest 3 -5 years but when hd become a lot cheaper ps3 will rocket and the 360 may get a bit of a boost (not that powerful hd and only stored on dvds!).

i am going to keep a keen eye on the sale of these 3 console but i think what is predicted in this blog is likly to become true.

Also my experience is that most prev-gen gamers still have a M$ or Sony console, but a Wii as a second console. I think the Wii turned potential customers (girls, older people) into customers rather than stealing them from Sony and M$

Aside from that, I'm backing up ISOhaven - firstly because Mister Bullsh*t is full of... well, bullsh*t. I'm 19 years old, straight, male, and I've got loads of games for the Wii that I like, at least half of which are critically acclaimed. Secondly, I just want to ask where MCS gets his info from; it's like a goldmine of statistics! Only gays, old people, girls, whatever play Wii, AND Mario games have never changed... amazing!

Oh, and the whole 'Wii-tard' thing is pure genius. It sounds a bit like 'retard', so when you say it, it's almost the same as saying Wii owners are retarded, but in only one portmantaeu-ed word!

As far as the game lineup goes, I'd have to say I'm definitely looking forward to a fair few games coming to Wii this year. As utterly fantastic as GTA IV is and MGS4 will be, the Wii is getting some gems of its own, such as Final Fantasy, Tales of Symphonia, SSBB, etc.

360 will never be stronger then the others because their goal was to release early so we can taste a little next generation of gaming.

I just want to play something American built and not buying more things "Made in China". Don't call me xbox fan boy because if I was really rich I would of buy both consoles PS3, 360, 32" HD TV at the same time so I can have both cakes and eat them too.

Right now I just not HD,Money,better net ready. So the only thing would be good for the ps3 is the damn photos, videos, linux (I'm windows fan boy. eh), music and web browsing, just like the PSP.

Both consoles has their ups and downs but currently right now be the best to get for me is a 360 untill I get a hardcore tv then I would buy a PS3.

PS. 360 is help their cover windows cost. LOL

So what if they predict PS3 will sell 100 million units? They obviously mean over the system's lifecycle. Look at PS2, 120+million, 7 years and still going strong.

PS3 hasn't even begun, but saleswise it's on a relatively healthy curve as the PS2 was early in its lifecycle.

The Wii is the cheapest system, that's one of the main reasons it's selling so well because affordibility comes first. PS3 is great value for its money but still over the budget for most average consumers. 360 is just a broken machine and a ripoff. It has some decent games, but it's too macho, shooter oriented. I'd rather play on a reliable PC.

Once PS3 hits the sub $200 pricepoint, by when it will also have a lot of major exclusives out, its sales will exponentially increase.

100 million units over potentially 6+ years is not impossible. PS3 is more than capable of achieving it.

I wouldn't really call that a point. More of a "DUH!" statement. Nintendo knows exactly what they are doing. They are targeting exactly who they need to, to come on top.

If targeting the "casual gamer" is what made the Wii a success then the only thing that proves is there are MORE casual gamers then non casual gamers. Therefore, casual gamers are more important to cater to for profits. It's funny to listen to "hard core" gamers say such things in a negative manor as if a casual gamer is something "bad". Not you specifically "~~", other people.

??? There is plenty they can do to make the Wii better. HD Video, HD Audio, full media center implementation....

There are many ways people have taken this point:

1. Most consider there being two completely different markets with zero competition between the two.

2. Since Nintendo was on the scene first it's not up to Nintendo to compete with Sony or MS. It's up to those two to complete with Nintendo.

3. Nintendo has a larger user base then Sony and MS. They have a market share that neither of them can break. Competition over.

For the Next Generation of consoles I see Nintendo being in trouble. First off, I see the other guys completely copying Nintendo and implementing full motion sensing and not sixaxis crap either. Then I see Nintendo implementing full blown HD and media features. But now look at the Wii2. All they did was add features that obviously their user base doesn't care much about. SOMETHING ELSE needs to be included to make people want to upgrade. What will that be???? I can't wait to find out but it better be something good or Nintendo might be in trouble that round.

A lot of Wii games, (if you compare ratio of good to bad) are just really horrible.

I am not a nintendo gamer, I have a PS3, but I tolerate both the other systems, and hardly ever get into console debates.
