Xylophono Mars Visage Software Nintendo DS - Image 1The folks over at Dev-fr.org homebrew community has something interesting going on. Last month they started a music-themed homebrew program competition, with a twist: the entries have to be "silly" in nature. The competition managed to garner a handful of kooky entries, and we're going to sample three of them in this article.

The first one is Xylophono, created by Mars_Visage_Software. It's a virtual xylophone spruced up with bright graphics that you can fiddle around with by dragging the background image with your stylus. The virtual xylophone has six bars, just enough for anyone who wants to tinker with a little music.

Bored with the tinkling music? Simply press on the D-pad while striking on the keys, and you'll hear animal sounds emanate out of your speakers in its place.

If you're into the more corporeal type of humor, then you may want to check out Pianout by Decjo. At first glance, Pianout looks like a just another virtual piano program (with a stick person slapped on the upper screen for aesthetic purposes), until you actually touch the keys.

Instead of tunes that you'd expect from a piano, you will hear farts. Yes, melodic farts, ideal for livening up a gathering that's all too quiet. If you're the class or office prankster, then this might fit your bill.

Last in this article is Roque Bande (Rock Band) by homebrew developer t4ils. No, this is not a clone of the now-famous Rockband franchise, but consider this a homebrewed music video of sorts. Bored? Just let this homebrew run, put your feet up and watch these...beavers belt out tunes.

All three homebrewed programs aren't accompanied by any documentation, but installing these applications is easy enough if you have the necessary DS homebrew hardware (in most case, just unzip the files and paste the .nds files into your homebrew flashcard of your choice). You can check out the Via link for more information. Enjoy!
