Capcom - Image 1Japanese game publisher Capcom has made its fiscal 2007 third quarter results public. The figures were a mixed bag with some spikes and falls in various categories.

The Osaka-based firm says that its net sales rose 4.8 percent during the holiday season and amounted to some US$ 485 million. However, operating income was down 8.2 percent, lowering the category to US$ 56 million.

Ordinary income took a hard blow as it plummeted 15.3 percent to US$ 61 million, but the biggest loser was net income. The category fell by 17.8 percent from the same period last year. This is attributed to some games performing below expectations.

According to Capcom, titles like We Love Golf! and Mega Man Star Force 2 showed sluggish market performances. Fortunately, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, Devil May Cry 4 (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC), and Monster Hunter Freedom 2 made big impacts in Japan.

The company's arcade sector didn't do too well this year even in Japan where this form of gaming is still popular. Donkey Kong Banana Kingdom was pointed at as the biggest disappointment in the coin-op scene for Capcom.

In response, Capcom raised its end-of-year fiscal forecasts by 15 percent. The company is hoping that sales of Devil May Cry 4 in the U.S. will help it hit its targets.

I notice that for the most part, the only games that sell on Nintendo platforms are Nintendo games. Of course there's the occasional exception(namel y long running 3rd party franchises such as RE or Castlevania) but really great games like Zack and Wiki and No More Heroes tend to get the shaft because no one really wants to play third party games on these platforms(ESPEC IALLY multiplatform titles).
