Camelot No Longer Supporting Nintendo Platforms

Camelot Software PlanningThe Japanese video game developer, Camelot Software Planning, is no longer supporting Nintendo platforms. The company known for partnering with Nintendo in producing spin-off franchise games such as Mario Tennis and Mario Golf, would be ceasing its partnership with Ninty for now. This was reported by German gaming magazine, Gemaga.

The reason? It seems that Camelot wants to concentrate fully and completely on its new golf game, aptly titled  I Love Golf. It is a online golf title that will be available in Japan's G-Planet service. This venture is in partnership with Eleven UP Incorporated and Yahoo! Japan who is responsible for account management and advertising.

Camelot was originally a sub-division of SEGA known as Sonic! Software Planning that was formed to create the Shining in the Darkness game for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis. They separated with Sega in the year 1995, but has continued developing the Shining games and would not release any games for rival systems that would hurt the Shining franchise. Camelot wrapped up Shining Force III for the Sega Saturn and formed a partnership with Nintendo which led to the creation of the Golden Sun games, among many others.

» WHAT

Nooooo! Can this mean no more golden sun EVER?

» Has it been confirmed?

"Nintendo fans up in arms may want to wait for further clarifications before rioting. Evidently there is some confusion -- even among Japanese reports -- about the specifics of this news. Some Japanese outlets are reporting that Camelot will no longer support Nintendo platforms and others are reporting that the announcement only relates to this single game and that Camelot will still be making future Nintendo products."

Is this just old?

» the Rising (golden) Sun

I really do wonder what will happen to the Golden Sun series. A continuation on the GBA is unlikely, now that the DS is much more widespread, and more powerful at that. And a port to the Wii is unlikely, at this point and time, since early game developments for the Wii are likely expected to utilize the control system in a unique manner. That, and handheld-to-console series leaps are uncommon for many reasons. A DS continuation seems most likely.

Though, they really have been taking their time. The lapse between The first game and Lost Age was in itself already quite a long time for a single game on the GBA.

They really should have released the final game a long time ago.

Update: Looks like we jumped the gun. Most sources, including Camelot's official website, seem to indicate that the studio is merely branching out onto the PC platform with 'I LOVE GOLF!' A Wii RPG should still be in the works.

» I hope it's false

I sure hope this rumor is false. I've been waiting forever for a Golden Sun sequel and dreaming of it on the Wii. I mean, come on, who doesn't think it'd be bad-arse to cast a Ragnarok with the Wiimote?

by Bearmon - 2006-08-02 14:26
» Haha -- fake ?

I do not care. I am not fan of Camelot company anyway.

» Too much...

Why can't we get bloggers who double-check sources and don't lead to panic-inducing false blogs such as this one?

» I hope it's false too

Let's just hope this is false. I know Fire Emblem has been active in Japan for awhile, but look how soon they got a GC title after the first two GBA games hit the US. I was sorta expecting the same thing for Golden Sun in the past, but clearly I'm wrong.

As for playing it on Wii, since the controller can determine strength (or something like that), like someone said before me, imagine casting a Ragnarok with the Wiimote, and having your strength determine the power of your attack.

Golden Sun is one of my favorite series (right up there with Legend of Zelda, Sword of Mana, Fire Emblem, Prince of Persia, Final Fantasy, and Tales of...), I'd hate to see one of my favorites fall.
