Call of Duty: World at War sales break 11 million mark |
Ó
Despite criticisms that Call of Duty: World at War (PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Wii, DS) isn't as good as its predecessor Modern Warfare (PS3, Xbox 360, PC), Treyarch should still be happy with this outcome - the fifth installment to the Call of Duty franchise has sold over 11 million units since its launch back in November 2008.
Last week also saw the release of Map Pack 2, which will also try and live up to the success of Map Pack 1 which scored two million downloads.
Treyarch posts a big thanks to the players:
These outstanding feats would have never been possible without the continued dedication and support from all of the loyal Call of Duty fans. For that, we at Treyarch and Activision would like to extend our sincerest Thank You. We're honored and humbled to have one of the greatest online communities in video game history behind our products!
Going back to the release, any of you got a few frags off the devs last week?

this is totally rediculous
Who are these fools, own up now!!
whats ridiculus, the fact that they got this far off the back of the better predecessor and people are acting like it was on the "strength" of the waw itself?
Yeah I agree
I mean its an ok game BUT for what is fundimentally a cod4 mod they did a poor job
why do people flame CoD:WaW? Its as good as COD2...I didn't really like CoD3, kinda seemed dull, had most of the great elements of CoD 2 and some features not on CoD 2...CoD:WaW is a great game, better than Gears of War 2, or most games out there that were multiplayer focused, but mainly Gears of War 2.
sales aren't everything. This game is apparently selling like crazy even though the game lacks in so many areas. I own the game and look at it as merely COD4 with a new skin and I am afraid MW2 will be the same deal.
CoD4 was nothing more than a modern mod for Call of Duty 2. No one said ***** when Call of Duty 3 came out. Stop whining just because this game sold out the balls instead of failing.
Haha, it's too late now, anyway. I hope Treyarch keeps making CoDs, which they will, just so IW-worshippers like you commoners will keep posting petitions for a cease + desist of Treyarch.
What was CoD4? Just Call of Duty 2, except in modern times. Everyone praises the engine of CoD4, when in reality it's just a modified Quake engine, which almost every FPS runs on nowadays. I dunno what engine CoD3 ran on, but it was probably the same.
I bet most of you kiddies didn't even play CoD1 and 2 on PC, so riding IW like this is so baseless it doesn't even make sense.
So i just picked this game up because i heard it was decent and got it as part of a good deal, and i must say that I dont know how a game like this could sell so many copies. I've only played an hour or 2 into the campaign on veteran and im really unhappy with it. The constant respawning of enemies, the bad jump mechanics and the obvious laziness to make it so you have to stay on a single path (the crappily made jungle walls), o and the graphics :-(.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Maybe I need to play more, but it looks like im gonna swap this out at work :-p I was expecting graphics and gameplay somewhere in the ballpark of killzone and gears-esque....
Think about it: World At War has all of the features of Modern Warfare .... but ALSO has 4-player Co-op, including mission and Zombie-mode. How exactly is 4 better than 5? And for everyone saying the engine was so awesome in 4, I think it sucked big-time. It didn't properly support 1080p, and the water effects were LOUSY. I remember getting that (traded it not long after), seeing opening section on the boat, and laughing at all the biased reviews for Modern Warfare. Dark Sector (released around the same time) had FAR more realistic water. COD 5 just about approaches that quality, but COD 4 was seriously lacking. Just because it started with an inventive intro, and it was an ok change of pace to put the combat it modern times ... doesn't mean it was some 'knockout punch'. Certainly, Modern Warfare 2 looks set to overtake practically ever other war game made ...but let's wait and see.
COD2 was made by IW, so I'm sure they have a right to use their own thing in Modern Warfare.
anyone know the sales of the previous games?? COD 2 and COD 3 were great after all
stupid... it doesnt mean ***** that they made their engine or whatever if they even made it that is. engines are ment to be shared. not to suck it up and say "mine"
They have the right to "use their own thing"? What part of "CoD runs on a modified Quake engine" do you not understand? IW didn't make Quake. Literally over a hundred FPS games in existence use a modified Quake engine, barely, slightly, or heavily modified.
So going by your logic, IW's success is due in part to id Software, and John Carmack, creators of the engine.
As far as I can tell No one keeps accurate sales data for PC games anymore, so CoD1 sales are impossible to gauge. CoD2 and 3 sales are also next to impossible. According to VG Chartz COD2 sold around 2.5 mil on 360, PC sales are anyone's guess. COD3 sold about the same on Xbox, and another half a million or so on PS3. They both have little spinoffs for Wii and PS2 and sh*t, but those aren't the same game so I don't count them.
So probably around 5 mil for COD2 and 3 mil for COD3
COD3 is not on PC, so those are its sales. Pretty much exactly 3 mil
COD 5 somehow better at some place...like Sniping rifle I mean WTF is with the ***** in COD4 bangbangbanga with a sniping rifle WTF!! thats overkill dude in COD 5 single shot is the ***** n obangbagnabg
