British Cabinet Minister encourages video games

Kids playing - Image 1This'll sure win kids over to his side: British Cabinet Minister Tom Watson encourages children to play video games. He believes that even the usually frowned-upon violent video games can be educational and that they increase intelligence. "Basically, I think playing games is a good thing," he said. "I'd rather my boy playing on his Wii than passively watching telly."

Most games are educational. They make you think, focus, challenge, and change - 500 years ago, a medium that did this would be called art.

Watson also revealed that his three-year-old son learned how to count via a Telly Tubbies game. "Even the fun stuff has serious real-world applications," he added.

I like the "think, focus, challenge, and change" line. Personally, I find that to be very, very true. Gamers (those that have been playing regularly for a long time) are generally quite smart, not all of course. Sometimes, you can tell a lot from a person with what he plays and why he plays them. Gaming scores another point!

It's about time someone stood up and realised the importance of gaming in everyday life and how much it can help.

That's what we gamers have been saying for years now, but nobody listens to us, because we are too busy doing school shootings because of violent video games...
