Blockbust Gungnir - Image 1We've certainly enjoyed a proliferation of homebrew versions of classic arcade games for the handhelds, but that doesn't mean that we can't get enough choices. Here's another one that you can add to the list: BlockBust, a clone of Taito's well-loved Arkanoid (also known as Breakout) by homebrew developer Gungnir.

There isn't anything special or flashy about this game, except for the basic things that you'd expect from an Arkanoid-based game:
  • 40 levels.
  • Animations of the blocks (minor)
  • Keeps track of: score, lives and level.
  • Sound effects
There are only a few controls to keep in mind when playing this game: touch the "Go!" button on the screen or press A to launch the ball, and you can touch and drag the paddle with your stylus. You can also opt to use the directional pad to move the paddle from side to side, but as Gungnir pointed out, using the directional pad will put you at a disadvantage.

The download below does not include a readme file, but you can easily install it by copying the file to the root of your flashcard or the folder that you have specified for your games. If you have any comments or suggestions, you can contact the homebrew developer by checking out the Via link. Enjoy!
