Bill O'Reilly gets tough on fake video game propaganda |

Remember the Bill O'Reilly article we posted some weeks ago? The one where he called gamers "junkies " and game consoles, particularly the PS3, as a "big, big problem" because "people get addicted to it, just like opium, just like drugs and alcohol."
Shortly after that, the "culture warrior" appeared on Oprah to air his views on the war that's tearing up America. The "culture war " is between "Traditionalists" like him who believe that "America is a noble country." On the other corner are the "Secular-Progressives" who he says think America is a "deeply flawed society that needs changes in every area."
And yes, we read it. Twice. And no, he didn't say anything about video games.
Anyway, this is not about the O' ranting on the O. This is about this video on YouTube featuring a little girl sassing back at O'Reilly's stand on video games and rap music. After watching this video we thought Cher donated her brain and this kid was the (good or bad) recipient. It turned out the girl was an actress and the whole thing was an ad for a band called The Bastard Fairies. Oh wait, we promised you a lot of quotes so here's the official statement attached to that video (we even retained the upper case as well ):

So what's the fuss? O'Reilly took it a little too seriously and went on the air to slam the video with guest child advocate Wendy Murphy calling it "an ultimate inhuman treatment of a child." O'Reilly then says the girl is "being raised by nuts" who are "abusing her emotionally."
Okay, so this is not directly a gaming issue. But we thought we'd use it warn you not to use your kids (or kid brother or sister) to take on O'Reilly about his views on video games. Unless you want to be called a "nut" and "an emotional abuser."
Was that objective reporting or what?

If this video was made and kind of just existed within the confides of cyber space, I probably would of giggled (like I did) and then thought nothing more of it. But the fact that O' Reily and FOX News both talked about it as a "serious issue" makes me fall in love with "The Bastard Fairies" and whoever put this together. I dont know who they are or what their music is like, but anyone who helps in making O' Reily look like an idiot is forever in my debt :D

Gaming IS addictive, that's already been proven. Violence as a direct result of gaming? It's been proven against that, there isn't proof that violence in video games causes violence in real life.... but there is something that has been proven. I am getting sick of all these people around me trying to push religions on me that are fairy tales of people that lived long ago who were either retarded, high, or trying to become known for something in their time. When these religions were made, people did not understand the world and thought alot of the things they seen were magical and did not know the Earth was round, did not know what the dinosaurs were and thought the stars in the sky were holes with heaven shining light though and such.

mmm, all my views in a nice lil package. give or take.. isnt the news channel doing exactly the same thing bassed on the video, using the video of a child and making an issue of it to fill 20 minutes and make it seem like their down to earth with whats going on.... if you look at the back scene of why this was made and for who and by who, the implications are a lil more minimal. as well shes a young actress or something.. and don't actors in movies talk the same lines and topics... i see no basis of comparison for the fact that shes a child vs and more educated actor in hollywood (if thats true at all)

I hope those who are against the parents of that little girl are also against all the parents who turn their kids into television stars early, and put them in commercial roles that have them present a product or service they probably can't comprehend yet. This sort of thing happens all the time in the media world, so why the hell does this one get picked out of the litter? With that aside, the people behind that message made good points. Points that O'reily and others have yet to respond to. Violence is apart of life, and no form of media can prevent it. The fact that we're arguing about violence in media is hopefully a sign that real life violence is at a record low. Otherwise, we're just wasting more time than I thought.
I agree, this video is very good. I even wonder if this is childabuse: look at a 'good' ameriacan christmas movie, how much christianity is poured into that and has to be presented by child 'actors' who are 'made to believe' (please no religious harm ment, it's just that a relegion is also a belive wich is put in a childs head, just as has been done in this video). I agree that they took it a little far (let a child talk about nazi's can't be right.. right?) but still the video is good. What bothers me the most it that in america the statement's presented by the girl are very extreme (in, let say Holland, this statements aren't that extreme anymore..) and she could suffer greatly from it. O'Rilley didn't even address what she said, just the fact that a kid said it. Then made a big debate about that so it would seem like this kids parents are immoral child abusers or something. Fox is the true propoganda experts but somehow it's "fair and balanced NEWS."

Evolution is only a theory. It was never intended to form a religion or solve the worlds problems. It's called scientific progression. It is based on observations, evidence (fossils, etc.), and scientific deduction. I would not call Darwin and others idiots only because they had an opposing view. Unlike the bible or other works of fiction, this is based on things that can be proven. It's true these people would be dismissed, ridiculed, and probably killed for their beliefs in ancient times. You're missing an important point. People were essentially savages then. They knew nothing they could not see with their eyes. Not much has changed in that area since. Could it be because not being muslim is a crime in many areas? . Religion does cause world conflict because it influences culture. This has dated back all the way to the crusades. Countries where religion is less prominent have fewer wars. Coincidence? The biggest problem with people in the US is they like to believe what they're told, as long as it doesn't go against what they were previously brainwashed to believe.

Mr. O'reily's whole point was that the girl was being taught to hate others who believed differently than she does or in this case her parents do. Coincidentally this mind set is what causes wars, not religion. I don't know about Islam, but Christianity doesn't promote war. Those wars started in the name of chrisianity were generally started for political and/or monetary reasons. they can't be supported by scriptural beliefs. I listened to the radio broadcast involving this video and video games were discussed as a separate issue and O'Reilly's point there was that people can use video games as a mode of escapism and avoid real life altogether if they desire and if they do they are doing themselves a disservice. I think that some things have been taken out of context and made to say things they weren't meant to say.

Still not seing where you religious types are going with this. Back to topic here, this video may be propaganda, but you're just upset because it's the kind against your beliefs. You've finally come around in one respect, in seeing that this is in fact a matter of opinion. However, your assertions on religion are still flawed. I don't take particular offense to this video, people are entitled to their opinion, I just believe this propaganda in itself is total garbage. As a former Muslim, and now Roman Catholic, (two of the most notoriously violent religions on the planet) I am very familiar with the Sacrifice of the Mass and the teaching of the Koran. Religion in itself is not a problem, or a source of violence, the opposite, in fact. People are violent, and religion will always be a channel for that at times. (The EXACT same as Nationalism, ambition, etc.) Look at WWII. It was nothing the Jews did, but nationalistic fervor and religious and economic notoriety of Jewish people (though those claims were bull) that caused the Nazi uprising. It isn't 'religion' persee, but its effectiveness as a channel for these emotions. Nationalism and other, lesser, diversions work the same way. I agree with you on religious propaganda. Religion is one of the most personal things on Earth, and throwing it in someones face usually fails to produce a whole-hearted embrace, or whatever. As a Catholic, we are taught to lead by example...You know that I'm sure, Catholics were never big on door to door stuff. I would take my child to Church until he is of age, and then it's his decision, he never has to go back. The theory of evolution is fairly new (in tearms of the bible) and to some outragous, but what is more believable, a story of two people making everyone on the world, a "god' making the universe, a man saving all the worlds animals...OR...a scientific look to show how the world actully formed...(big bang..human evolution from a single celled organism to a multiple celled-complex organism "us") In my opinion that is something more realistic than believing a 2000 year old book on events that they believed at that time to explain the world...we look at greek mythology today and see how outragous it was to believe how there was a god for everything that lived on a mountain...same applies here... religion explains what cannot be explained or to prove my point what people DON'T want explained ti them (the non-believer of evolution) Now i am in no way against religion for i am on the fence between both sides..i look at what is being presented and see the more logical answer.

Nothing can be proven about religion. A book written 100 years later after Jesus died is not any proof. Mark wrote the first gospel, then Matthew and Luke based theirs on Mark's. John's is totally different and who knows what he based his writings on. The old testament is even less believable. That's why believing it is called faith. It absolutely cannot be proven.

I was made to go to church, I know others who were too. Its very simple........ Speculating on how we came to be here is at present pointless as most people on here are not Archeologists and dont have a clue what evidence is - even if it was shot down out of heaven by "god" him/her/its self.
