Bill Gates: Nintendo is toughest competition |
Ó
In this round of the console wars, people always say that the main rivals are Sony with their PS3, and Microsoft with the Xbox 360. But of course, the two are now neck-to-neck in terms of hardware, graphics, online service, and other features. Nintendo comes in as a viable alternative, a dark horse if you will. This is undeniable especially when Nintendo has always been open about their stance in this round - to go with gameplay experience and not focus on graphics. However, Microsoft's boss of the bosses Bill Gates maintain that Nintendo is not just an alternative.According to him, "The strength of Nintendo on the portable space has been very impressive and surprised a lot of people; and the strength of the Wii; and we see Nintendo as the toughest competition," as he commented when he was interviewed recently by TV Tokyo.
Quite recently, Nintendo raised its financial forecast for fiscal year ending on March 31 to 966 billion Yen. That's roughly around US$ 8.1 billion and it can attributed to the strong performance of DS and Wii, both in hardware and software sales. We wonder where does Sony fit in all these?

Because Nintnedo is now M$'s toughest competition, does that mean that a price drop for the Xbox 360 is coming to help compete? It seems likely
The likelihood of MS dropping the 360's price are jack and squat, and jack left town. MS is on their way to being 3rd place this time around instead of second. The Wii will not have the library to sustain a long term leadership position. Granted, Mario is king, Mario can't carry their system for years into the future. It didn't save the Cube and realistically, the Wiimote and Mario aren't going to save the Wii. The majority of multiplatform releases don't include the Wii, so 3rd party support going forward is going to be an issue. The only reason MS has one leg to stand on is they came out a year ahead of time. And if you continue to watch system sales their "lead" shrinks drastically month by month. Before the end of this year, the three systems will be so close it will make the 360's year headstart moot.
Yay for being two days late on this. Seriously, what happened to up-to-date blogging? I have been with this site since the beginning (psphacks and all) and all I can say is that when the news blog was created and then branched out to more than just psp news. I was happy. But obviously, you guys are either employing too little people to cover all the areas or you just arent employing the right people. Either way, your news has slowly been degrading significantly over the last few months/years... what ever...
Where does it fit in you ask, It doesn't. This is great news for us Nintendians, our gaming industry is on top :D Wii Dominates, Wii Obliterates, Wii Rules. ~ TheMetroid
Erm the news on Wii these days is almost paper-thin, nothing attention grabbing, nothingly sparkling really - only news is that its still outta stock in Europe! LOL Facts: - PPL are cancelling their orders and buying 360's/PS3 instead - PPL with Wii's are selling them due to lack of games since launch I have a Wii, it has not been played since Warioware/Wii sports - its a damn shame but truth is the DS is the only one really selling well... Wii is in a worse situation than Gamecube now - oh how i wish Nintendo would pull their socks up and SORT IT OUT!.... Such is life...
seriously ps3 an 360 arwe not neck and neck in hardware and online features don't compare them in those fields
360 should stay out of "competing" with a kid's toy like the Wii. 360 and PS3 are the true next-gen systems, but 360 has the advantage over all systems right now
The Wii isn't really a next gen system. I'm a PS3 owner and to me the only next gen systems out there are the 360 and the PS3. The Wii is a novelty...next gen is defined by the growing influence of high definition, not waving around a stick. It's nothing groundbreaking. Motion control technology was always out there. Now it's just in a neat little box with "nintendo" stamped on it.
Are you saying you bought a Wii and only got WarioWare? A game which can be beaten five times over on a rent? Are you retarded? I mean granted I only got two games when I bought it, Red Steel and Zelda, but I've played both probably a combined fifty hours, try one of those
so where else do you suggest i go to find all this info compiled together for my easily reading access without having to hop all over the internet trying to find every new piece of info?????
I own a PS3 too and 360 and PS3 are the only systems to actually have "new" technology. while the ps3 and 360 are a step up from the last generation, the wii is more like a step sideways. The only real thing holding the wii up is its low price. its not even a system...its a TOY!. The Wii WILL become obselete much faster than Nintendo planned while the PS3, which is future-proof, will most likely still be advanced for years to come.
Wii's library sucks, zelda? red steel? omg! is there something better? because both suck.
you're a dumbass kid. you seriously think that 360 has the advantage? you have no idea what the PS3 is capable of. multiplatform PS3 games can only be as good as the 360 allows them to be, that's why all of the PS3 exclusive games are the ones to buy for the system, because of the intensity of the game that doesnt allow it to exist on another system because of the restrictions in hardware. i'm sick of these fanboys and there misinformation and also saying that the 360 is on top because you are jealous because you didnt have the money to get something better. examples of great PS3 games that could NEVER be possible for xbox 360 are motorstorm, resistance, metal gear solid 4, LAIR, but now Devil May Cry 4 is going multiplatform and it will probably suck ass now because of the limited capabilities of the 360, also there were probably some six-axis features for PS3 and hopefully those wont be taken away +/ and if anyone disagrees with me i could care less because i know that i'm right, so flame away ;] ugh.. if i want little kid games then i'll buy a wii, mario is dead and i never got into zelda but i played it once i think it was ocarina of time and i hated it. i liked metroid prime but the other metroids sucked and the only game that seem interesting to play on it is call of duty 3 and red steel. i love how the PS3 puts everything we've ever wanted in a system all in one pretty looking black box that looks like something that belongs on a race car +]
the only reason why people buy the wii is cause its cheap. nintendo are only going for quantity over quality
the 360 has the advantage over all other consoles it just isnt crap
But they have support this time. OK not as much support as the PS2, so it's not going to surge upto 120 million sales, leaving MS and Sony at 20M each, but it's too early for that to happen to any of the consoles. It's too early to doom any of the consoles to any place yet. The only thing we can say with any certainity at all, is that the Wii will probably overtake the 360, as it's most of the way there already and still suffering from shortages, while a lot of people are still holding out because it hasn't got any of it's main games out yet. And even then, there's no saying how the PS3's going to fit in, it could end up anywhere, it depends entirely on whether everyone sees it as a reasonable investment.
nintendo sucks, microsoft and playstation are for people of 12+ while nintendo is for childs and japanese
I think everybody can go to fu..cking he11 because im in a bad mood so f..cuk off!!
Without fanboys like blackdragon, no matter how biased they are, where would video games be now?
I can understand Gates' statement. Nintendo is doing very well. They are selling strong in both the console and portable market. The worth of the company has gone up considerably since they've (Nintendo) taken the route of dramatic innovation. Its a numbers game and by the numbers Nintendo is a real contender. However, I do not know how long it will last. I am only one gamer in a sea of many but I can say that I've lost interest in my DS since originally purchasing one. The games are beginning to feel stale to me. The Wii? I like the Wii. I think that it is a nice diversion. It is a cheap diversion, too, which is important. For all that I've yet to buy one. I'm not certain whether or not its a good long term investment. Nothing now is pointing to that. The titles I've found myself most excited about come from Nintendo themselves and not so much from 3rd parties. That would mean I would always be waiting for another Mario-Zelda-Pokemon-Metroid-SSB installment. For me the jury is still out on Nintendo. I love what they do but can the keep up the pace? Now, where does Sony fit in all of this? To me Sony stands as a bridge between what is possible between MS and Nintendo. Their system is capable of providing a unique experience as well as high performance - IF utilized properly. But its not my call or anyone else's call. That's something that Sony has to come to terms with, understand, and implement.
THe Wii is winning because its cheap thats why its selling, it the xbox and ps3 were the same price as the Wii people woulnt even touch the Wii everyone would be all over the ps3 and xbox! i think that people are going to get bored of the Wii(me i own one) the Wii needs more games with violence and more fighting! anyways the ps3 rules and i dont care what you thinkl!
PS3 will definitley win the console war. Sony is a smart buisness they will make the right move when they need to. Sony have many exclusives that many people have forgotten about Cough...cough..god of war 3.......heavenly sword....HOME......Not to mention better online services coming soon ohhhhhh yeahhhh KILLZONE 2 (developers have been quiet about this game fora reason)
You're sick of fanboys and their misinformation, yet you believe the whole "ZOMG PS3 IS LIEK 10000x BETTER THAN SUXBOX 1.5" thing. If you knew the first thing about any of this, you'd know the difference isn't great. And those examples of games that wouldn't be possible on the 360 were piss-poor. Look at DIRT, looks better and is bigger than Motorstorm. Resistance would be NOTHING to the 360, come on, that game was only 22 GB because they duplicated the data like three times to overcome the sh*t load times of Blu-Ray, this has been proven. And Lair and MGS look great but certainly nothing the 360 can't handle, have you seen Mass Effect? Or Bioshock? That's fine, you just keep thinking you're right, because *I* know you're wrong, so it amuses me all the more :)
They've been quiet about it so people don't get unrealistic expectations of it again. Halo killer my ass
The PS3 is in last place by millions that is the real sales figures at this time no arguments there, as for Nintendo you can bet with all that money they are making from the DS and the Wii they will proberly have a monster Next gen+1 backward compatible console sooner rather than later, the 360 is selling constantly, the Wii is constantly selling out and the PS3 is well not doing a great deal really.
To all of you who are bickering "well this machine is better than this machine and this machine just sucks...GROW UP! Reliance on just one machine/company and complaning about all others makes you sound like either 1. a loser 2. a company spokesperson 3. a 10 year old so get over yourselves and look at the benefits of all of the systems... or get off of postings for the other systems saying how great yours is. To everyone who can accept all of the consoles for what they truly are then I applaud you for showing the integrity.
