Biggest Disapointment of the Year |
Ó
Biggest Disappointment: Nintendo
Runner's Up: Too Human, Spore.
Comments: Well, I could easily give away a game as the biggest flop this year (Too Human, I'm looking at you!), but generally speaking, Nintendo not releasing more first-party titles this year is the biggest disappointment of all. Don't get me wrong, Mario Kart Wii and Brawl are pretty much up there, but I was expecting Nintendo to roll out a bigger and more substantial library for the Wii and DS to compete with other first-party titles of the other major players.
Isaac C:
Biggest Disappointment: PlayStation Home
Runner's Up: Haze, Wii Music
Comments: Home isn't a game, but it's so disappointing that I'm putting it in here anyway. Boohoo for you, but it's true. I'm sure it has a bright future ahead of it, but its launch is purely dismal.
Karl B:
Biggest Disappointment: Fallout 3
Runner Up: Sadness
Comments: Fallout 3 - It's a good enough game if you judge it on its own merits, but I wanted a true Fallout 3 sequel dammit, not a glorified Oblivion mod. Sadness - STILL no gameplay footage. What the hell, Nibris?
Glenn M:
Biggest Disappointment: Chrono Trigger DS
Comments: Chrono Trigger DS is hardly any different from the PS1 remake... seeing the 3D look in the trailers got me thinking that it might have a few scenes in 3D, but no..why go hyping it up when all we're gonna get is the same game on a different platform? If it's to have Chrono Trigger on mobile, emulators would've done the job a long time ago - and for free..
Chris C:
Biggest Disappointment: Resistance 2
Runner Up: Age of Conan
Comments: Understand that Resistance 2 is by no means a bad game, not even an average game, it's just not what I was hoping for. The multiplayer and co-op aspects are brilliantly put together but the single player game just feels... bland, like an afterthought. Explosions erupt all around you, chaos ensues, aliens, humans engaged in epic combat on a massive scale, it's mad and it looks gorgeous... but it never really comes alive.
As far as Age of Conan goes, it's actually a pretty damn good MMO now, but for months after launch it was a challenge just to play for any period of time without a crash to desktop. So much potential. Please Lord, let Star Trek Online be perfect.

i thought home was good. its not bad for a beta release. oh and lol the simpsons picture is funny.^^
No big psp disapoitments this year? cool!
I dont think the psp itself can count as a game ;)
Homer Simpson doesn't fail. never. haha.
biggest disappointment is Legendary. i didn't even know it was released. about the Resistance 2, yea, single player feels bland. the idea of aliens shooting orbs at me didnt really sink in. i also didn't feel like shooting a gun (the Bullseye makes a laser sound when shot). it didnt have that 'umph!' factor.
Home got boring after a while. you clearly have to have a keyboard or something cause it's a pain in the arse to type using the controller. billiards and bowling were fun, but that's just it. and to think it occupies 3gb of you HDD. meh.
i think that next year, inFamous will be a disappointment. and so will be Prototype.
Not that I had high expectations in the first place but thought it would be more of an... "experience", not just Dazed and lazy, sexualy confussed frankenstein Miis. Netflix isn't paid for Live and Netflix? Even the sounds piss me off! Oh well (Xbox just isnt for me I guess).
Wii, I don't really want to menetion since sayin bad things about it causes issues even though most people dont even like it its just "everyone" seems to like it so no one wants to disagree. Anyway, my Smash Bros Entertainment system is fine the way it is maybe its not a dissappointment after all but then again its not a good 200 plus dollar electronic door stop like my other smash bros entertainment system i mean Gamecube. It wont hold my door open.
Fable 2 after all the intricate decisions and passable glitches (not havin your daughter stick in th middle of a road and cant interact with her or have plot device characters not in the places were they supposed to be and force you to grow old in once village chopping wood for a living) the ending is horrible and felt rushed nuff sed.
@Xis:
nxe didn't disappoint me, i feared it would be horrible... so i was pleasantly surprised.
@Article:
GTA4, epic game, realistic as hell... but no fun. thank god for saints row 2.
runner up: music game tracks, or lack of them...
why is evryone saying home is a dissapointment... first of all its an open beta, and second ITS FREE. if u didnt pay 4 it and sony is giving u something so huge why r u complaning. I mean sony players shud b happy they didnt get stuck with a "New Exprience" or what it think shud have been called "Sony n Nintendo have a good idea lets rip it off" (no too catchy though). Home is a great idea, n when it is released it will b even bettr, but it is not meant 4 hardcore gamers
Its a beta,
would it be better to grade,
when the real one comes out?
Everyone is saying Home is a disappointment because HOME IS A DISAPPOINTMENT. It's boring. The servers take forever (If they load at all in the first place) and the whole environment is just cheesy.
Have you been to the Central Square? There's nothing to look at, that Saucer Pop game is just ridiculous and the music blows!
Yeah, I know it's an "open beta" of sorts, but Sony was no where near ready to release this stupid thing yet. It was about NOW that they should have started ADVERTISING it, not rushing it out for people to use.
It's broken and unfinished, even for a beta. When it is finally released, it's not going to be any better, it's just going to be the same thing with more boring rooms.
Sorry what I meant was no game disapoitments in the psp console this year lol
Home is FREE! You shouldnt be saying its a dissappointment . They could have been like Microsoft and done nothing but they didnt, they gave us HOME for FREE.
@ Justingraziano
are u gonna take someone's cr*p if its FREE?
No, the thing is even if its FREE they should've made something better
Biggest Disappointment: Namco/Bandai
Runner Up: Capcom
Comments: the fighting team that has been bringing us new things to the tekken and soul calibur scene have decided they're poor now and needed some attention.. in the form of a small green light saber toter..?. and for tekken fans........ for the most part geographically speaking, get nothing. That's right, you add another year on to that release Namco! Go ahead and let high end Japanese arcades pay those billz..
Capcom gets honorable mention for making SF4 a little *too* simple in the character depth region, way to make me bored within the first 10 minutes playing guys!
Jack Thompson is still alive is what!
R1 was better than R2 in my opinion. I would go as far as saying the graphics in R2 are pretty bad, I hoped that they would fix it up some after the beta but of course that didn't happen. Another thing for me was the gameplay.. I remember when I used to play R1 online it used to be fun running sideways shooting the person in the head, now it just feels. . . weird. I hope Insomniac gets on the ball and makes Resistance 3 even better than what Resistance 2 should have been.
That game looked pretty amazing in gameplay footage, and it was greeted with like 2/10 reviews on release. Tried the demo, and I think I agree with those reviews. It is a bad game
I'm sure I'll get a lot of crap for this because the people on here love their Resident Evil, but I think RE5 will be one of the biggest disappointments of next year. Played thru the demo a few times, and granted it is a demo, but the whole thing doesn't really feel like a RE game. It's not a survival horror game anymore, it's just an action shooter with zombies now.
They should go back to what made the first 2 amazing
Not "zombies", I know, but you all get what I'm saying
now thats a disappointment! !!
I definitely agree with spore. But hey, there's no perfect game right? Then again, it was just overhyped as advertised.
-nobody- Sony didn't force you to download HOME in the first place.. better yet Sony haven't forced you to buy a PS3.
My advise is, if you don't like the ps3 then trash it. That will end your misery.
you need games to have disappointments in them.
just stick with ratchet and clank games. i love those games. it's what brought me back to playing adventure.
i think R2 is better then R1 mainly because its a trigger and easyer 2 use but R1's ok because its the Nitrous button but any way R2 is good for fps
because home has been in ps3 commercials all year long, and the best they could do was open beta before the year was over...
it was supposed to add some serious value to the $400 system, as is it's the monkey exhibit at the zoo... don't stare at it or it might fling some poo your way.
i also thought home was good, but it will eventually get better when u can share music and vids with friends.
I didn't think R2 Was dissapointing, the multiplayer has goto be the best Ive ever seen, besides CS:S, and the single player was really fun, but it laked one thing, A DECENT STORY LINE!!! nothing was explained in the game at all, and you never got any really creepy places, like those transformatin plants in the first one, they didn't have the voice over from the lats game eather, it should of been more scary. but im absolutely not saying i didn't like the game, its one of my all time favorites, it just could of had a more emersive storyline. what do you guys think??
My God, why are they even making Need for Speed Most Wanted v2?
Girandhistacosd , Home is for socalizing and metting friends that have a PS3, lol you go into Home to look at stuff? No wonder you don't like it...
I'm not saying R2 is a bad game, I just feel that insomniac could have done way way better than what they gave us. Ever since I saw the first gameplay video back in june, I was like "This is the game we're getting in November?..." I thought it was going to be greatly improved but I guess I was wrong.
By the way Happy New Years!
Lets look to the future, I have faith that Insomniac is going to learn from they're mistakes and make R3 an amazing game.
the RE series creator isn't making the game? he's actually not supporting this game at all. i mean, after having those amazing RE games, why didn't they include him in the project? now i'm thinking if God of War 3 will disappoint as well because David Jaffe (creator) isn't on the project as well.
well, we'll only see this if MGS5 didn't include Kojima-san as it's director...
haha, they spelled the title wrong......
Got so bored even before I finished the first level. I would sell it if I could find someone to buy it. Deep story and lots to do. However, having to hang out with people and date the same old lame chicks over and over got way too monotonous. I'd rather be running and gunning in Gears 2 (which IMHO should have been game of the year).
For you retards that think Home is a game you're the Epic Fail of life. Home as a few have posted is a social meeting ground. Yes it's free and you didn't have pay from some dumb subscription to use it and lose money. It's Beta and it's Free did a say Free yes it's FREEE!!!!!!!!!.
Resistance 2 has it's perks but I can agree it does have it's lame factor to. It's not as good as it was hyped to be.
NXE is a failure. All it is, is a better graphic Wii Mii character base copy. M$ needs to get on the originality boat at sometime in their career. I know they all borrow idea's but damn to completely rip that shiznit off is flat out gay!!
I'm disappointed that not many PSP games have been coming out lately. Does that count?
The article isn't limited to games. Obviously people were expecting more from Home and were disappointed.
LittleBigPlanet is my biggest disappointment. Why? I made an epic level just so it could say "Failed to load level". Ridiculous. Unacceptable.
Spore + NFS Undercover are connected with Electronic Arts...
What do you expect from them?
Enough said...........
Team Fortress 2(Orange box) on XBOX 360 was my biggest disappointment, its so bland and boring to play, even Legendary on me XBOX360 was miles better
Chrono Trigger is never a disappointment. Yes I know, CTDS is almost the same as the original version and 3D update would have been nice. Though there is a nice new ending that binds CT & CC better. In addition this is the first time the game is released in Europe and thus is the first time that European gamers can play the game (officially I mean).
Let's hope the game sells well world wide, so there is a little more hope of a new sequel.
Try Dissidia. Also pentavision just released a new DJ Max Game. If you are a fan of the series; try it out. If not, try it out.
Biggest disappointment of 08. I waited so long to see if the world would end and then a LEAK stops it.
This game was the the biggest disapointment to me it just didn't seem very fun to me i thought it would be allot more fun
Super Smash Bros. Brawl was so bad i was so excited for it when i heard about it but then i just wanted to shoot it after the first week of having it not that it was hard it was just really repeditive
ok...NXE was not a failure to me at all..beyond the avatars that realy shouldnt even be a concern, it brought alot of great features to the 360 that i love. Just the fact that there is now up to an 8 person chat no matter what you are doing easily made my 360 the most social game system in my eyes. And lets not forget the option to completely install games. ..as for Home Im not disappointed with that at all either..mainly because it was apparent of what it was actually going to be..just a place to stand around, hang out with and meet random people...for FREE.. you either hate or love it, and it also helped with how unsocial my ps3 felt with its lack of communication features... But what did disappoint me is...id have to say Fallout 3..to me it feels like literally someone droped an atomic bomb on oblivion and slapped a fallout sticker on it...it is so boaring at first and the bland environments just get to me...I mean i understand its right for whats going on in the game but cmon...ok...im done lol
that you can finish within a week is a HUGE disappointment in my book. Love r2 ONLINE but as you guys have said the single player blew acid chunks. mirrors edge? you can finish the game in ONE hardcore session. same thing with that bourne title waaaaay too short. what needs to be said about games in reviews is the length of games beacause i am tired of getting duped for $60 (plus tax, and i live in ultra high chicago tax is 10%) just to flip a game in a week
Last nite bouncing around Northrend, from one bugged instance to another, to retards trying to steal your ore's and everything just so crapped out, Warcraft has taken a turn for the worse in my view...
Cheating is back big time in Wintergrasp with rogues running around with 10 minutes evasion, retri paladins so overpowered that there is no anti-class that can touch them, PvP is just sets of retri's and rogues dominating the scene with little else able to compete in Arena...
Professions are a massive fail, can easily be levelled to the new ceiling in a day, some professions offer nothing much over the old, the fabled "Inscription" is about as exciting as paint drying and as much a challlenge... Ah yes, Engineers can learn and build (at great expense) a motorbike and Tailors get to make a flying carpet... whoopee... took two years to come up with that lol
But the biggest gripe has to be the unfinished items, several classes only have 1 specific item at level 80 and its tough titties if you aren't in that talent tree, ofc course there is plenty of rogue and paladin gear, yet 1 sigil between level 55 and 80 for the Death knight, 1 Bear idol at lvl 75 for druids, the classic classes left behind in favour of Blizzards new favourite the Paladin, to be perfectly honest I think this expansion (unless you are a Paladin of course) was a waste of money...
Think I'll stick my level 80's on wowaccount or something, World of Paladincraft sucks right now.
You must be extremely disappointed regardless of what platform you play on. Some of the biggest games this year can be completed in a day like Gears of War 2, MGS4, Braid, Dead Space, Burnout Paradise, Left 4 Dead, Fallout 3, Fable 2 and many, many more.
I also think you will have a disappointing 2009 now I think about it. Your best bet is to save your cash and not buy any more games, ever.
Was supposed to say in a week whilst some will only last a day.
I can't say I agree with parts of this article, but to each their own. It's your opinion and personal preference and you're very well entitled to it, as does everyone. So I'm not going to attack your article. Instead I'll shed my thoughts on who I thought was slightly disappointing
I personally feel Capcom and EA are slightly disappointing cause they couldn't take the time to add something to a selected few of their games. Devil May Cry 4 while awesome for what it was, it just lacked a few things which Capcom could have done better. They should, imo, have made a patch fixing any errors with the game or giving trophy support. Yes I'm aware of the reward system the game has, but I just like it if it had PSN trophies though, don't really care if they mirrored the Achievements. Just something. I also thought for EA NHL 09, the best Hockey Game of the year should have had Trophies as well. Why they slacked off idk. Not to mention there's some errors with the game as it is, so they could do both and update it. Now from what I can tell EA isn't going to patch the game, but unless someone has some info i'm not aware of regarding it, please show me.
While these are small Quirks for me, I still believe it's disappointing in some way.
I liked Resistance 1 because it had a familiar, R+C in first person type feel with the controls and weapon system. It also had a not-bad storyline. You also had to be crafty about your health, it regenerated, but not all the way.
R2 puts you straight in with a different control system and a more standard fps feel with the limited weapon carrying. The story was lacking, if visible at all and like the current trend of FPS, no health bar, you just hide for a few seconds and you're fit to fight again. Although realistic, it doesn't have the same sort of challenge as the R1 health bar offered. Also, the lack of scary dark places packed with Chimera was kind of a let down. Some of the revised weapons were a let down, too
