Bethesda: new Elder Scrolls game 'potentially' in 2010; Oblivion PSP still looking oblivious; Nintendo market saturated

Maybe with Fallout 3 finally released, Bethesda can focus on other projects, yes? If you're a fan of the Elder Scrolls series, then things are (potentially) looking up. But! If you're a fan of the Elder Scrolls series and still holding out for an Oblivion PSP, then things aren't quite looking up. Also! If you're a Bethesda fan owning the Wii or DS, then... well, maybe you might want to start broadening you console horizons.

Bethesda Softworks publishing executive Paul Oughton let slip that they've got a new Elder Scrolls title planned out for the future. "At the moment we've got Fallout 3 for this year and potentially there's a new Elder Scrolls title in 2010," said Oughton.

This is a strange thing to say considering all the silence about that Oblivion PSP title they announced some years ago. If Oughton were referring to The Elder Scrolls Travels: Oblivion as this "new Elder Scrolls title in 2010," you'd think that he would have just say it outright that he was talking about the forever-delayed Oblivion PSP. Alas, he didn't elaborate. Oblivion PSP, MIA again!

Meanwhile, he also commented on why they're deciding to stick to the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. Currently, they're "not that interested in the Wii" and that they'll "continue to pursue three or four titles a year and go for big titles." So why not the Wii, you ask?

We've seen games selling in the past 18 months that we never thought we'd see. We wouldn't have thought that pet games and cooking games would have a viable market five years ago. No publisher would have taken those products on.

But Nintendo bought new products in with vast amounts of marketing money to launch these into the minds of the consumer and made a market for them. Every other publisher then very quickly developed DS and Wii products and we're getting to saturation now.

It's still nice to see that he acknowledges the fact that pet games *coughNintendogscough* and cooking games *coughCookingMamacough* are selling pretty well. But for some reason... I don't know - I just don't see a Cooking Mama Scrolls: Oblivion any time in the near future (i.e. ever!).

If this next game is anything like Failout 3 then Bethesda should just stop now while they are behind. It's a waste of time to make anything since it will probably just be a gimped version for PS3 and then all the smart people will pirate the PC & 360 version so they make less money off of their flops.

I loved Oblivion....

I will be excited to see what the next one will be like.

Unfortunately I can't afford the time right now for Fallout 3 multi-end-fest; but I will be getting eventually.

I don't think Oblivion or Fallout 3 can be considered flops since they got good reviews and continue to sell well. In fact, I can't seem to remember Bethesda's last flop. Could you please educate me in this matter, or at least share your opinion?

A Morrowind port to the Wii would sell really well.

At Least I would buy it...

It's fine that they stay with PS3, Xbox 360, and PC though, cuz I always get their titles on PC.

I don't think the titles have as much playability on the consoles because the PC has endless modding capabilities.

They're good on the consoles, it's just that they last about 10x longer with all the mods...

I know that the Wii is far too oversaturated with casual games, but am I the only person who thinks a remake of Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall might work on this console?

I mean, how many people even remember the ones prior to Morrowind and Oblivion? It might be a good time to reintroduce the humble beginnings of this series, especially on a console that many own already.

Fix the remaining bugs from the PC version, update the graphics, introduce the Wiimote + Nunchuk control schemes and new quests and storylines for those who have played through the original version.

They're full of ***** - period.

We were already snubbed for Oblivion on the PSP and I have zero confidence they'll deliver on the PSP in the future.

Even if they did, it would be a minimal effort, cash-in job that will play like pure suck.

In short - all hype, no substance.

Avoid.

I'm sure if they made an Oblivion Game Of The Year for the Wii, the only thing they would have to change is the graphics. They really should push this into the making for Wii owners to enjoy! Plus I think the ability to cast spells or to swing weapons using the Wii remote with real motion capabilities would be pretty bad a**! Bethesta really should consider making an Oblivion Game Of The Year edition for the Wii. I think a lot of Wii owners would be even 10 times happier with this game alone if they did.
