Make no mistake: Assassin's Creed on the Nintendo DS does exist. The mystery game's box cover has surfaced, and it appears Gameloft is behind development. Titled Assassin's Creed: Altair's Chronicles, Altair's bite-sized adventures will happen before events of the console iterations of Ubisoft's cross-platformer take place.

Yep, we're looking at a prequel on the dual screens with Stylus controls. Apparently, we'll be touching unsuspecting citizens with the Stylus to pickpocket and interrogate them. It's difficult to tell how combat will be like, but after seeing Tecmo's Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword, we can only imagine this is another action game utilizing the touch screen for precise attacks.

Even with the blurry image, it seems Assassin's Creed: Altair's Chronicles is going to be visually pleasing as a DS title. With the Prince of Persia Classic remake for XBLA under Gameloft's banner, it won't be surprising to see the game packed with platforming elements. Unfortunately, the game's release or any further details are still tucked away. Our eyes are on that bird of prey, so watch this space for updates!
