Are you a gaming addict? Here are ten signs to see if you are

Let's see. You're now checking out a gaming site, or you're getting this through RSS, reading up on game news, planning to buy new ones, or simply checking to see if the ones you already have got updates. This is by no means a study, but it's still fun to see how far you'd go for your favorite pastime - here are ten signs that you might be a gaming addict, by Gary Swaby of the Koalition.

Another use for the sofa - Image 1 1. You buy at least one video game per week.
  • I WISH.
2. Your only purpose of being employed is to buy video games.
  • How sad is that? ONLY purpose? It takes all sorts I guess.
3. You buy games you know you will not play more than twice.
  • See #1
4. You feel too much pressure in a relationship because you have to sacrifice gaming time for your partner.
5. When you're not gaming, you're reading about them (Hopefully on QJ!)
  • Does it count when you do it for a living and you like it? Or is that me making excuses?
6. You no longer watch TV.
  • A lot of truth to this. About the only regular TV time I've got is when there's an NBA game on.
7. You only realize that you have not eaten yet when your stomach growls.
  • Guilty as hell. Sometimes I even bypass the whole thing and forget to eat altogether.
8. You realize that you eventually need to move house because your gaming collection is ever- growing.
  • Luckily, there's a lot of space where I live. Then again, how I wish my place was flooded with games.
9. You run out of things to talk about when speaking to people who do not game.
  • Nah, I have more non-gaming friends than gamers.
10. You dust off your console(s) and Hoover up the room every week, knowing damn well that you never did chores before you owned game consoles.
  • SO TRUE. In fact, the cleanest area in my room is where the hardware's at.

How about you guys? How do you plead?

-You like playing games so much that you try to make one yourself but yours ends up sucking bad so all you do is play games for the next week straight, so you can get over not being able to make one yourself.

I don't really buy all that many games as I work for gamestop and can bring games home whenever I have time to play them...

That being said: between working 40 hours a week and college I have no time to play any games at all... I'm just now playing RE:5 and it's the first game I've touched since a week after Killzone 2 came out.

Are you to young to have had a woman?

you dont have to be addicted to games for that one to be a yes, you could play an hour of games a fortnight and it would be a yes in a lot of cases.

» Am I addicted?

1. You buy at least one video game per week.

* I DOWNLOAD at least one video game per week. Then I buy them later, if they're worth it.

2. Your only purpose of being employed is to buy video games.

* No. I'm unemployed.

3. You buy games you know you will not play more than twice.

* No way.

4. You feel too much pressure in a relationship because you have to sacrifice gaming time for your partner.

* Come on. Games aren't that important!

5. When you're not gaming, you're reading about them (Hopefully on QJ!)

* Sometimes.

6. You no longer watch TV.

* That's true. TV is crap anyways.

7. You only realize that you have not eaten yet when your stomach growls.

* True.

8. You realize that you eventually need to move house because your gaming collection is ever- growing.

* No. As I said. Most games are downloaded to my harddrive. The others are store in an archive-box.

9. You run out of things to talk about when speaking to people who do not game.

* No.. Actually I try to avoid talking about games, so I won't sound like a geek. Funny thing is, I am a geek. I just don't want my friends to know that.

10. You dust off your console(s) and Hoover up the room every week, knowing damn well that you never did chores before you owned game consoles.

* Not really.. Quite the opposite actually.

» Don't think I qualify as a game addict. Let me know if I'm wrong.

1. You buy at least one video game per week.

☼ Maybe one every 3 months...

2. Your only purpose of being employed is to buy video games.

☼ My purpose for being employed is to pay for my house.

3. You buy games you know you will not play more than twice.

☼ I buy a lot of games I can't even play through once, due to lack of interest or time. I'm lucky to find a game I feel is worth playing a second time.

4. You feel too much pressure in a relationship because you have to sacrifice gaming time for your partner.

☼ 1 word, LOL.

5. When you're not gaming, you're reading about them (Hopefully on QJ!)

☼ I read occasionally about games, on QJ and other review sites, but rarely.

6. You no longer watch TV.

☼ I haven't watched TV in over 9 years, cable is too expensive for the little worth it has. However, I do watch things off NetFlix, Hulu, and other online services.

7. You only realize that you have not eaten yet when your stomach growls.

☼ I realize I'm hungry when I see someone order food, and then I think back to the last meal I ate, which might be 2-3 days ago. It's just something I've always had to deal with, and that never happens while I am playing games.

8. You realize that you eventually need to move house because your gaming collection is ever- growing.

☼ My game collection builds, but it's nothing to move around about.

9. You run out of things to talk about when speaking to people who do not game.

☼ I run out of things to talk about when speaking to people, because where I live, computers, games, anime, sci-fi, MTG, and anything on the internet, is all avoided by the local population. The only thing to talk about is beer, bowling, and some movies.

10. You dust off your console(s) and Hoover up the room every week, knowing damn well that you never did chores before you owned game consoles.

☼ I do a full house cleaning every Friday, which includes dusting them off. However, that include scrubbing down the stove, cleaning the bathrooms, bed laundry, etc.

1. You buy at least one video game per week.

No.

2. Your only purpose of being employed is to buy video games.

No. Close.

3. You buy games you know you will not play more than twice.

I collect games, but they're ones I'll enjoy atleast somewhat.

4. You feel too much pressure in a relationship because you have to sacrifice gaming time for your partner.

I lost a girl I was in love with because of this.

5. When you're not gaming, you're reading about them (Hopefully on QJ!)

All the time, unfortunately.

6. You no longer watch TV.

It's been around four years since I've sat down and watched anything but a movie.

7. You only realize that you have not eaten yet when your stomach growls.

This one is true. Sometimes I only eat once or twice a day because of it as well.

8. You realize that you eventually need to move house because your gaming collection is ever- growing.

This is actually true. I've needed to actually get a box for all the movies I own to fill the space with games, now it's full again and now I need more room.

9. You run out of things to talk about when speaking to people who do not game.

Unfortunately, it's hard to run out of stuff to talk about when you can't really start a conversation with anyone who doesn't game because you don't really follow anything else.

10. You dust off your console(s) and Hoover up the room every week, knowing damn well that you never did chores before you owned game consoles.

No. Dust never hurt anything. I never leave my games out though, because then it would.

You don't watch TV?

How about I don't watch 22 minutes of commercial for every 1 hour show?!

TV is crap, even good old fashion airwave radio is crap, I play video games so I don't waste time watching/listening to crapercials.

Imagine you're playing Call Of Duty, you got your opponent in sight, line up your shot and BANG! Buy Budweiser! The king of Beer!

No thanks, the day I have to watch commercial while playing my games will be the day that I dust off my old Nintendo console. It's easy to see why people who choose videogames over TV.
