Another reason to fly to Japan: Pokemon Fiesta 2007

Pokemon Pal City! - Image 1With the Square Enix party over and done with, it's no surprise that another world-famous franchise is planning a major bash to take over the media spotlight and capitalize on the success of its recent games.

This time, it's the folks over at Nintendo with the upcoming Pokemon Fiesta 2007, a massive event about everything Pokemon that begins July 15. And it's no two-day convention, either - the event's planned to stretch a mammoth 16 day's worth of Pokemania, spanning over six halls across the country. Not bad for a game that spawned from the idea of fighting bugs!

We managed to decipher some pretty exciting information about the event itself. First off, attendance is free to all Pokemaniacs. Then there's a bit about a popularity contest between Manaphy, Mew and Lucario - probably to decide who gets featured in the next movie, but it's anyone's guess.

The best part of the Famitsu coverage is word of an officially-sanctioned Pokemon Tournament, with divisions for age groups. The battle rules: four Pokemon in a party, with each capped at level 50. The actual fight would be in double form, meaning Pokemon trainers would have to battle with two Pokemon out at the same time, rather than one-on-one - which could lead to some pretty interesting combos and matches.

Torture, Japan, torture! Well, here's hoping for a similar event to take place closer to home - and if any of you readers are lucky enough to take part in the event, share your photographs!
