Announcing the Girl Gamer Awards for 2007 |

For the girl gamers out there looking for ways to let your voices be heard, we're announcing a poll just for you. Gamergirlsradio.com, Gameinatrix.com and the KRT Ladies have just announced the opening of their Girl Gamer Awards polls, which is your chance to say which your favorite game is, be it for the console (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii), portable (DS, PSP), or PC.Winners of this poll will be granted the "Girl Gamer Approved" seal, with this poll hopefully increasing awareness among publishers and developers regarding what sort of products women involved in the gaming industry want.
The polls begin this March 28, and will run until April 29. Voting will be conducted at the Gameinatrix site, although the ladies are also suggested to check out the award nominees in the list below:

I'm not a girl, but I want like definitely to partecipate to this poll.
Why don't? I think I can just express a better opinion than my girl of which game she could like. As she doesn't use to play my beloved psp. But what do I love more? Eeeeer... I don't know.

Probably because even though the site running this poll likes to classify themeselves as "girl gamers" (rather than just "gamers"), they also seem to be scared of conforming to existing "girl gamer" stereotypes (eg all girls like puzzle games), whether those stereotypes are accurate or not.
I think this is a great idea. But right now I can see on the first post that the gaming culture is still filled with sexists, GET OVER IT MAN! Gaming girls exist and are a part of the world. "Washing and laundry just for girls" bulls****.

I thought this vote might be interesting and came over to check it out. Imagine my disappointment when I read the first few posts. I apologise, Ladies, for those of my gender that have no taste. G-d must love idiots, he seems to have made alot of them.
CoH by far my fav, But my husband still has a hard time against me in Battlefront 1 and 2, And I can out play the kids in Prince of Persia sands and warrior. So guys get over yourselfs and make me a sandwich and bring me a Mt. Dew.

I am a guy, and I think the posts from other guys in this thread are reprehensible. I share household duties with my wife. She is not better than me and I am not better than her. And the same goes for gaming. I do, however, agree with one thing...and it is not a knock against gender or race or anything. When you create seperate categories you CAN (not will) cause more seperation between groups of people. I hate to see the 'Black Gospel Awards' because it is a divisive. Why not just call it the 'Gospel Awards' because the moment you Categorise it by gender or race, then you start division. As a sub note to this, while I agree, to an extent with it creating more seperation, at the same time it is just gaming (I love gaming but RL is more important) and I see it this is just a Fun poll that will in essence let people know what girls are into in gaming.
Don't be seperatists and don't be sexist...we all equal and we are all different, embrace both qualities and live in harmony and game til the cows come home.

You know thats a bit unfair, City of Villains/City of Heroes are basically the same game, you pay one monthly fee to play both, and by splitting them up you're splitting up the votes, thus is harder for them to be #1.
Lame poll. CoX is much better then any of the other games listed by far for many reasons. I enjoy my health amount of tanker smash and mastermind ruination.

Yeesh man, when was the last time anyone expected the woman to do all that stuff? I've been happily married over 15 years, and my husband and I share ALL the household stuff depending on who has the time to do it. So yeah, when he's working more hours than me, I take care of things, but when I'm working to support him, you bet he pulls his own weight.
We also game together, have the longest running relationship of anyone we know, and have scare-the-neighbours great s*x together.

Unreal to see comments like the first few. I to am hoping that they are teenagers and don't know any better. But then again if that is the way they think, doesn't say much about their fathers. That is a way of thinking that is taught, especially in todays world. I am also a woman and quite frankly have been playing COH since a month after launch and COV since beta. I love them both. Has to be the best out there.
Coh.Cov Is the best game out there. You meet people from all over. You can create a toon that can fly,jump,supers peed. Your toon can be good or bad. It takes you away from your real problems to a fantasy outlet, and it doesn't care if your male or female, young or old. And more females are playing games today then ever before and we are good at it. And most of the males that play this game must know that females or as good as them or better for most of them have female toons.
Technically they are two different games.
I agree, they should be put together. I bought G vs. E and I enjoy BOTH.

I am a FULL TIME - At Home Mom with a 3yr old toddler and a 9 mo. old. My J-O-B is; taking care of my children, cleaning the house, 4ppls laundry, groceries, breakfast, lunch, dinner, dishes, sweeping & moping, vacuuming, bathrooms, pets, bills, diapers, bottles, baths......IT NEVER ENDS!!
Did you know that DAYCARE is just ONE of all those jobs? (thats all they do, is watch kids....I could do that)
I'd need a maid, a laundress, a cook, a babysitter, a teacher, a nurse ....... to just take over MY job!
And I didn't include my Wifely duties. :)
That is my never-ending, 8hr shift.
BUT, I am very lucky to say that I have an AWESOME hubby for I would of probably hit 'Nuckin Futs' if it wern't for him. He does SO much, because, even tho he goes to an 8hr a day job. He also knows that being a DAD is FULL TIME too.
I am just blessed to have a man who can see, ALL OF what I do ......... and then, straight up tell me "I don't want the job." lol But its a good thing we share some of them!

The only real other 'escape' you have since you can't leave your house w/o kids, is you comp. Where you can get away and do something different and relax.
(granted you only get this time when the kids are already asleep and you're so tired from the day you change you mind and hit da hay)
I enjoy CoH/CoV BECAUSE you get to interact w/ REAL people who are there to play not pick you up. You can accomplish things in this game w/ little time everyday. As vs. EQ2 where you need ALOT of time to get anything done.
Lots of versitility with the Characters you can create and pwrs they can wield. Wether you're Solo or Teaming you will be able to level your toon and enjoy the game.
How about you think how you got here for a minute? I hate a**holes. Come find me in CoV and see how well some of the "girls" can kick your cheauvinstic a**.

I have been playing these games since beta on each.. I love them! Been into comics since I was 4. So it was the game for me. I, too, wish they had combined them into the G. vs E. edition.. and I noticed it didn't get into game of the year.. well .. that's where my vote lays.. it should be Game of the Year...

CoH and CoV different games? Yah i have to say this out loud. CoV was designed SOooo much more inteligently. The "time sink" factor is lestened to a massive degree. I mean CoH has so many fed-ex missions for contacts. What a JOY it is to be told to walk my spandex butt across town, talk to someone in a Trial Zone.. then walk back to deliver the message, only to be told I now need to walk BACK across town to the far corner of Atlas.. and come back.. honestly, that happens all the time in CoH. It's like delivering whispers for the mafia! Have'nt these 'contacts' ever heard of a phone? Silly.. tedious...
Until recently with police band missions, CoH was by far slower if you did'nt have 8 person teams running full tilt boogie for XP. CoV did it right and they did it first. (Pssst! it's because the lead devs were different and because Fricking Statesman wasn't hammering it into his 'golden dream of heroism and goodliness' *wink*)

Male costumes have some amazing looking options and somehow the unique things that mimick theirs are half-a$$ed cobbled together versions of theirs. Pathetic. Further proof that males attempt to dominate MMOs, in this case from the top of the pyramid down. The men got a tux... what do we have as far as something that might come close to elegant? This is about the dumbest sh*t I have seen in a long time. If Women/Girl gamers want to hold a poll let them. Hell we get the Video Game Awards on Spike TV (you know the channel for "GUYS" crap). Some women are not into games, and that is cool to, My ex-wife wasn't... That's why she is an ex. My new wife is.... That's why she is the new wife. I really enjoy the CoH/CoV game play. Once on the game & getting use to the movement, it's really hard to go back to a game console such as Xbox & PS2...uh, i won't be buying the ps3. so my Xbox & Ps2 are collecting dust...once i get bored of CoH/V, i may buy the Xbox 360 & Wii. but...i just can't help making a new toon when i feel the need to try new powers.
the endless looks & power combinations will keep you coming back to make new toons. highly recommend this game to girlies new to the MMO's.

First of all, i want to say this. This is to all the males out there that have nothing better to do than put down women: Grow the ***** up! Quit acting like children! If you are child and saying retarded stuff like that, then you need to go tell your mommy and daddy what you just did and never return to this site again. By the way guys, we are now in the 21st Century. The Women's Evolution was over 30 years ago, before most of you were born. None of you are coming from a society in which women were house dependent, so don't go out pretending that you are use to the ways in which it USE to be.
Secondly, this is for the women out there, that think your better than us men: Grow the ***** up! Yes, you had your moment in the past that brought you out of the households, and made you become equals in the workforce. You're in the Military, you're everywhere! That's great, and I personally think its a good thing. It brings diversity to the workforce, and I am all for that. But i do not believe that you are better than men, nor do i believe men are better than women...Equality means Equal, not a tipped scale!
Finally, i would like to say that CoH/CoV freaking rules! I will not cast a vote on this website for I am not of gender to do so, but i do encourage all of you that are female, to do so! This is a great website for people to come together and share ideas and not bash on each other...I sincerely hope that it doesn't cause any trouble and all the LOSERS stay the hell out!

It's so hard to choose!!! I love City of Heroes and I love City of Villains...if I have to pick just one, I have to say City of Heroes. Both games totally rock :)
I must admit I hated the fact my hubby played games all the time. Then my best friend and her hubby started playing COH. They showed it to me and I thought "Well I'll give it a try." Went to the store and they only had COV so I bought it. The next week we found g vs e edition and upgraded. My hubby and I play almost daily TOGETHER. It's been such a great hobby to share. It's fun to team up together and help each other out. Though I must admit I love to go to Bloody Bay and kick our friends bottoms regularly! :) COV is my fav at the moment but I love COH too! I hope they win 1st place.
BTW, to the egotistical puerile spawn of female canines, get over yourselves, out of the gaming world and into real life. I hope that no woman ever submits to your overtly abusive and controlling nature. I would hope that your unintelligent speech will land you in the nearest correctional facility as a soap holder in the showers.

Im a gamer..played EQ for 6, was a GL for 2 of those 6 yrs, now Im an officer in a supergroup in CoH. All my toons are female...because *gasp* Im a female in RL. Absolutely the best game ever for me. From character creation, missions, zipping around cities, it's a way of life for me :) I'm there every night!
The game has the best community of players, I've never met anyone there that wasn't just great to team with.

I am a mom of 4. All my kids are gamers as well as my husband, we all play COH/Cov as well as have play EQ and others together.. My favorite is Coh/Cov although i have more fun with my mastermind than my hero...My kids think is is cool to be able to play and discuss games with mom. It makes for a good time when my 12 year old is grouped with mom and she is a better player than he is... All Gamers are cool but girls rock.....
I vote for BOTH games as I do populate them quite often and have been playing for about 3yrs now and have been playing CoV since day one of its release.

aye while its great to see a girlgamers poll and i understand why companies would want to see it, how valid is it gonna be? half the votes will probably be done by males that want to mess up the poll, want to sway women towards certain games (mmos), or otherwise just want to be a**holes. you should instead just make a normal poll and seperate male, female, and other votes, probably would get better results that way. i suppose that might not attract ladies to vote, but you could still advertise it as a girlgamer poll and just add the option to vote as male, female, etc.

I love this game and my husbad for understanding my many hours a day i spend playing. I too and a at home mom with 2 school age kids. I also use this game as an escape and a way to reboot my brain on bad days. I love the real intereaction i have with other ppl good and bad. Its a nice break form the prison i call my life otherwise.
Oh and i was also a gamer in the 80s loved that astriods and the car racing games. I kick some serious rear in those days.

You're worse than the guy who insulted all the real women in my supergroup on CoH because "there are no women on these games" called us men...
I run two very feminist leaning SG's in CoH, they are all women toons, though because of the content of the RP (one is anti-men completely (villain side, Sapphite League), and the other is a school for abused women (hero side, Sapphite Institute)), we tend to attract mostly real women gamers.... and some guy sazid one of my girls "was the name of a porno flick", and kept insulting us... on a team made up of 4 of us, and me running it. We kicked him off the team and added him to the people our women should not team with.
I am torn because I love City of Heroes and City of Villains too. Each has their pluses and I love to play them both! I do have more heroes, but only because it's been out longer.
There are alot more women gamers out there then i realized! Hope you all have the decency to vote CoH^_^

I don't do polls but I do play games. WOW and COH/COV. and I am a guy. There are some guys who can woop me and some guys who can't some woman who can and some who can't this cheauvinstic mentality went out like yesterdays dirty laundry. You want to see what a woman can do join the military and go to iraq and see what a woman can do. If you don't get your back sided kicked by one. now back to what this forum is about games. COH is the best by far in my opinion.
It's extremely hard to be asked which is better City of Heroes or City of Villains. Both games are great! However, if I must choose between the two I would have to choose City of Heroes as this is the game that got me into gaming and I love my rifle/fire blaster.
As for the men who've bashed us women players, my philosophy is this: If my live in boyfriend wants the time to play he best help me with the household chores so I can have time to play. If I don't get MY time to play, he DOESN'T get his time to play!
I'm so happy to see my MMOs of choice getting recognition on here. I too am a woman, and I'm about to mark my 3rd year of playing CoH. I beta tested CoV, and now I have a hard time deciding which side to play on. I've tried SEVERAL other MMOs (including some that are on the list to vote for), but none of them can touch CoH/CoV's uniqueness.

I like both games. My now husband brought me into this world of gamming. But if I was to choose just one it would have to be City of Villians. For it is the only level 50 I have.
I have other toons on different servers but the other highest I have is a 32.

I too have comments to add about CoH and CoV. I've played EQ, WoW and CoH over the years and I'd have to say CoH and CoV are my favorites! Hubby and I both play and we just had our first baby (6 months old now) and with the time constraints that come with an infant CoH is the best choice for me. I still do like WoW and will probably start playing again once he gets off swing shifts
We've already started joking about where we're going to set up our daughter's computer once she gets old enough to game! :-D
As for the who's better than who... in EVERY situation - in the workplace, school, online, anywhere - you have the potential to either be good at what you do or just not give a flying f***, regardless of gender. Anyone can excel and anyone can fail, it just depends on what that individual wants more.
Yes - women should not be *expected* to want to be Suzie Q Homemaker and be subservient. Besides, in more and more families the husband is the stay at home one because the wife simply makes more money or he is willing to let her persue her career.

I too am a stay at home mom of 2 chilrden under the age of 6. I have played COH and have multiple 50's there as well as a 60 on WoW. My husband and I enjoy the time we have at night after the kids are in bed to play these games. To fosheezy .. you need to get out of the 60's man and grow up, get off your a** and go wash your own d*** dishes and make your own d*** dinner! Cause like it or not women will continue to play these games and contimue to kick your a**!!!

It's more about getting womens' voices heard about what kinds of games they like. Let's be honest, most games are designed for us dudes. Women play games too and the marketers need to know what they want in a game. It's easy for most guys: explosions, death, t and a. Can't really say the same about women, so they're doing this to get their oppinions out there for the game designers to see. It's really as simple as that.

First, i'm a guy so I can't vote, but if I could, CoX would get my vote. Second, I don't believe in equality, all men and women were NOT created equal, there are so many ways that we are inequal that it makes the thought of equality kinda moot. Don't get me wrong, i'm all for giving women more freedoms so long as they take the responsibilitie s attached to those freedoms, and it is my opinion that women are superior to men, which is why god must be a woman. It's obvious I'm a feminist, and truth be told, I'm more than willing to pay for dinner and hold a door for a woman. Guys that think women only belong in the kitchen are: 1) manipulative bastards, 2) had horrible childhoods (though I can't imagine how it could have been worse than mine >.>) 3) sexist jerk-offs who need a serious wake up call, or 4) live in a third world country!
Now that that has been taken care of, lets go onto the next soap box. I personally do not view mmo's to be a way to "pick up chicks", however, I would have to counter what I just said by saying that I am currently pursuing a relationship with a woman via CoX, and I can safely say, she'd kick any male's ass on this forum who even thinks something along the lines of "women can't play video games". To those that think I am contradicting myself, you may be right, but I can't help how I feel for her, and I can only hope it works out between us. HOWEVER, I do not condone the type of guy that comes onto a game like CoX, or WoW, or EQ, or UO, or RO, and makes the assumption that a female who plays this game must be lonely and needs some man loving. I know over 50 women who have to deal with that ***** every day, and I end up being the one that takes the brunt of it because I'm a ****ing walking mat, and I try to be emotionally supportive for all my friends.
In short, women rule, sexist men need to get their ****ing heads out of their collective ***es, not all men are emotionless jerks (myself for example), the only people who are created equal are identical twins, and even they might not be equal, and anyone who manipulates anyone else deserves to be shot, regardless of gender. Iam a female gamer and I think CoH and CoV are great and although it is a hard choice I am going to have to go with CoH with my vote.
The interaction and graphics are great and have spoiled me for any other game. The community forums are a great help too, so are the GM's.

I would choose city of heroes all the way, the powers and archetypes are much better then villains in my opinion!!!! But City of Villains is soo awesome too, all the graphics and roleplayers! Thay both rock, but in my opinion City of Heroes is so much more better

I agree that asking whether CoH or CoV is the best is unfair to players. I am a very active female player (yes, I'm a woman and I play and I have toons who are sexy and I don't care what anyone else thinks or says because more than half of the world if full of morons and there is nothing I can do about it so, oh well) who can whoop anyone's butt. I don't think I'm cool because I game, but I've met plenty of male gamers who do. Obviously, they are intelligent men who don't have their heads up their arse like some of the men posting to this forum. I'm also certain the men who post that "women should get back in the kitchen" or any other chauvinistic piggish comment are either single; sit around in wife-beaters drinking beer and beating their wives while they burp, fart, and pick their noses loudly; or live with mom and dad because (surprisingly) they can't find a woman who desires them. I'm not trying to put up a divider or stoop to their level (because, being a woman, I don't think it is possible to get that low), I'm just stating the facts. Back to my original spiel, I bought both games together and I play both games. However, I find myself more likely to play as a hero than a villain, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy the world of villains - I just enjoy the world of a hero more. In that respect, Cox should be included as a category for those who believe both games together rule instead of one or the other.

Pick a game: WoW, COV, COH, Guild Wars, or any console game out there and she can crush them.

When I saw the headline I thought they were voting for female gamer of the year or something...Definitely misinterpreted. It's all good though. Women are picky of games, and this is one (or two depending how you look at it) that seems to attract plenty.
